This was the early anime when they didn't have to follow rules like evolution and match-ups. Bulbasaur used Whirlwind, Pikachu defeated an Onix with lightning, Pokemon were able to evolve when they were under pressure. Professor Oak even said compared to other Krabbies Ash's Krabby in size at least. The thing was weak and had guts :o
