  • Sorry for posting this again but I think it's important. It may sound crazy to the vast majority of people on this but this song was actually written by my great grandfather, Tomás Ó Colmáin, who lived in Conamara for several years and established the school, Coláiste Chonnacht near Spiddal. He sold the rights to the Gill and Macmillan publishing company and it has since been credited to Pádraig Pearse. His name is on the earliest versions of the song. SPREAD THE WORD!

Isn't my little boat lovely floating on the harbour… With the oars being pulled strongly and steadfastly.

Doesn't she leap blithely over the high waves…and isn't she light to carry up on the strand.

Oró my boat that swims on the bay, óró, mo bháidín,

  • It's so beautiful and peaceful and I don't understand anything she is saying, but I don't care because I love it. <3

  • littlebigplanet2 trailer song lol

  • -is stunned because i cant understand-

  • What is this song about because I cant understand the translation

  • This is beautiful. Passion Pit totally ruined this for me. XD

At parts, I kept wanting to hear "It was like fire around the brim."

  • Do the Irish understand and speak Gaelige? Or is it used in just some spesific arears ir Ireland? It sure sounds nice!

  • @mopo112 Most Irish people can hold a simple conversation in Irish/Gaelic. However, only about 100,000 people use the language on a day to day basis. I'm proud to say I'm a native speaker and at home, we only speak Irish.

  • @Sportymike i do notice an increase in young parents raising their children in Irish. All Irish schools are becomming popular again aswell. im very happy to see this happening, it would be a dieing shame if the language comes to an end :)

  • @Sportymike bhuel cén fáth ná cuireann tú an pointí seo i gaeilge?is as B.á.C mé...sin an cúis a beidh mo gaeilge go dona...

  • tis song always makes me cry :...(

  • Passion Pit used this and made it high pitched

  • cool

  • GAELIC!

  • wot a nice gaelic lbp2 song

  • wait so its not beans in their corn eat your taco with meat?

  • Little big Planet 2 Ö.ö

  • bahahaha

  • Oh, this is so beautiful!

  • Such a beautiful song, and it's not as though having an extract in another song has ruined its reputation because Sleepyhead is also a great song. Having the extract from this in makes it all the better!

  • amazing how a song about a boat can sound so sad

  • can we get a translation?

  • @Roflofl129 Chek the Description :D

  • @xXsamurai36methodsXx woops, i certainly feel stupid now

  • thank god i dont have to learn irish at me school, i do german xD

  • wat a load of old shit

  • @ZachM176 Awwwww, you're not a load of old shit. :( Go get some help, dude...you really shouldn't talk about yourself like that...that's heartbreaking

  • It's like the music of angels! such an origonal sound that still works today.

when I first heard the sample I wasn't shure if it was celtic, oriental, english, or indian (both american and asian). It truely trancends cultures, it sounds so un-Irish.

  • oh i knew it... Slpeepyhead was just too amazing to be an original... haha

it's ok though, i still love it!!

  • @whatthefunnyword It's very original actually. Sampling an obscure gaelic lyric to make a big electro hit.

  • thats gas that sleepyhead is sampled off an gaelic song!

  • LBP2 brought me here! Sorry I can't thumbs up :(

  • i didnt kno irish people had a language. i thought they jus had an accent lol! i guess im remedial

  • not that bad but i like it better and faster in passion pit sleepyhead

  • fucking beautiful. Found out about this from Passion Pit sampling it in their track Sleepyhead, just HAD to find out who the sample was. amazing.

  • @aciddmc thats exactly what i was thinking...i wanted to know the original and it wasnt posted on youtube so i pulled a double kill! (mw2 :D) thanks for listening....this is indeed beautiful music.

  • I really really really really dont listen to this sorta music but i heard it on lbp 2 then i got into passion pit, and I always wonder what the voice was and I found it! KUDOS TO ME!!

  • I think it's awesome how someone can take something so classic and make it so...

    modern.

My hat's off to you, Passion Pit.

  • Oh God, but if this music sounds so beautiful, like the song "Sleepyhead" by Passion Pit, I really liked this

  • ohh ohh dirty sleepy hoes

  • @Teefless LMAO!

  • I don't want bees in my corn, nor eat taco with meat.

  • thumbs up if LBP2 brought you here

  • i like dis

  • she's amazing!

  • @freakypencils31 agreed!

  • passion pit did a good job sampling this

  • @19karl16 a Very good Job! supports passion pit and there music

  • I think this is a really nice song :)

  • A legend during her life-Mary O'Hara, the best ambassador Ireland could have wished in the past 55 years.Mary was born in 1935 and started to sing the old Irish folksongs at the young age of abt 20 The purity of the voice with just her own harp,no technical additions(How far have we come nowadays!) At 2.45 min. Mary shows her classical qualities, not only her stunning breathcontrol, but by repeating the last verse in a beautiful pianissimo.A great singer/musician of historical value

  • Hey, they use this in the trailer for Little Big Planet 2

  • @MrDaratum

It's actually "Sleepyhead" by Passion Pit, but this is where that song comes from.

  • I've got to admit, Passion Pit was pretty creative with this sampling.

    This song here is beautiful.

  • Wow!! That is beautiful!! Creative on the part of passion pit for samplin' the way they did....

  • I want to know what she thinks of Passion Pit's version?! :D

  • Gaelic.

  • I make samples from records too ^.^

  • Please stop calling it Gaelic. We call it Irish. Or Gaelige. But never Gaelic. Only Americans call it Gaelic.

  • @jlamberto Ha. I did not know that. Live and learn.

  • @jlamberto I'm Irish, yet still call it Gaelic...

Must be North and South differences.

  • @jlamberto speak for yourself

  • @jlamberto What do you call an Irish Queer?

A Lad that loves his women more than his beer XD

  • @jlamberto How is gaelige pronouced?

  • @bumdudder gay lick

  • @haxproductions1 So, Gaelige is pronouced exactly the same as gaelic?

    Awesome!

  • @bumdudder yeah

  • @bumdudder gale-ig-ah

  • @bumdudder my teacher says it like GAY lick. O.o

  • @xXsamurai36methodsXx This is correct.

  • @xXsamurai36methodsXx Its pronounced GWAYL-GAH.

  • @xXsamurai36methodsXx

My Irish Studies teacher showed up this video in class. and some of us giggled at this comment. It was neat how this was sampled in that Passion Pit song.

  • @xXsamurai36methodsXx It is pronounced Gail-ick i live in Ireland :)

  • @bumdudder you pronounce it "Gwale-geh" :)

  • @bumdudder Gaylegeh. I'm Irish.

  • @JustAnotherEmoFreak its pronounced Google (ˈɡuːɡ ə l) :D

  • @JustAnotherEmoFreak Or Gwayl-geh, depending where you're from.

  • @bumdudder gaelic=gay lick,

    gaeilge= gale-gah

  • Comment removed

  • @jlamberto GAELIC

  • @jlamberto im American and I call it Irish. I have no idea why everyone else calls it Gaelic lol

  • @xbdayx Gaelic is old old Irish which im American i call it it Irish but everyone else says no its Gaelic

  • @krown109 really? I didn't know that lol

  • @jlamberto I think the scotish use gaelic as in they spell their language that way but its pronounced Gaalik I've probably confused a load of Americans with the comment as they probably didnt scotish ppl spoke a form of Gaelic too anyway I'm English and I've always been interested in Irish Gaelige Scots Gaalik and Welsh Cymru. Are you a native Irish speaker or are you irish but English is ur first language?

  • @jlamberto well since i'm American, it's fucking Gaelic.

  • @cjack828 LOL!

  • @cjack828 ty makes sense

  • @jlamberto I am American, and I call it irish, do your research b4 you say something ;)

  • @jlamberto So clever patronizing Americans, aren't you, you fucking cabbage. In case you're too much of a arrogant, unaware cunt, your fucking people make up a large percentage of the stupid rednecks in the U.S. so don't get too happy now thinking your countrymen are superior; you're fucking one and the same says I, an Armenian living in the U.S. Do you think the food, air, and water in North America impairs people's intellect or something?

  • @jlamberto We are AMERICAN.

  • @jlamberto to the best of my knowledge gaelic languages is just a general term used for Irish, Welsh and whatever the Scotts had :P like germanic languages cover Dutch german etc ....

  • her voice is so beautiful.

  • Beautiful :)

  • Passion pit are genius! i love this

  • What language is this?
