  • is their any need to practice with bigger sticks like marching sticks on the pillow or will regular 5as do fine in other words would it be over the top to do both?

  • i want that snare

  • AT 3;26 TIL HE STOPS, DOES ANYONE ELSE NOTIC THAT HIS RIGHT HAND WAS DOING 4 STROKES AND THE LEFT WAS DOING 3 STROKES ????? COOL TECHNIQUE BUT WHEN SEE PEOPLE THROWING IN EXTRA LICKS ITS LIKE NO WONDER WHEN I DO IT IT DOESNT SOUND THE SAME LOL

  • i'm sorry, but picturing Tony Royster and Jim Chapin hanging out together makes me almost piss myself laughing. talk about the ultimate "Odd Couple"!!

  • @jofujenkins You mean how Tony is young and Black and Jim is old and White?

  • @blue4219

well yeah. plus now, Tony is young and black and Jim is white... and Dead.

  • Love the little suppressed laugh at 2:58-He's laughing at the thought of so many people watching this video and thinking 'HOLY SHIT!!! HOW THE FUCK DOES HE DO THAT?!'

  • wow freaky... He's so awresome that those moeller triplets he was playing were exactly in sync with my metronome wich was playing while I was watching this.

  • 9 people dont like the jersey he is wearing

  • i am ambidextrous and for those who dont know that it means i can use both of my hands. i mostly use my right hand to throw and write but i use my left to eat and do other little things except when it comes to playing the drums my left hand is alot better than my right hand. when i do the moller technique my left hand can do it but my right hand can not do it. its very difficult for me to do it with my right hand but my left hand can do it very easily. any tips? anybody can answer this. thanks

  • @VcUb3mAsT3r613 *sigh* I have the same problem...

  • ...pretty fast single stroke??! That's insanely fast haha:D

  • :42 ... Tony sees a titty off in the distance. This dudes always been crazy good and a big inspiration.

  • muscle memory

  • @1drummerworld god. You are a complete idiot. How is this cheating. Thats bullshit excuse for you to use probably because u cant get the whipping motion. Lmao. Its an easy stroke once u learn it. And btw. Theres no such thing as cheating when it comes to drumming. Your stupid if u think there is. Its actually called. Different techniques to work with to save energy. Just because you probly blast beat constantly. With your little fingers. We aren't calling u a cheater. and who are you to call

  • when he puts it into a single troke roll.. hes no longer doing triplets right? he does whip with right then whip with left and so on.... right?

  • @iandrummer07 yup

  • moller.... haha

  • 3:35 "The Muller Technique" had to laugh...

  • thanks tony your a true insperation!

  • Tony,

    I definitely love you!

    You're the King of Drums!

  • The Moller Technique. Now go fuck shit up!

  • "obama appears that time" - Closed caption@1:27

  • this guy is cheating.....the moller ....and the rudiments are done very mediocre!

how can you ever make an instructional video and talk about technique like you know the shit!!!

  • @1drummerworld Its Moeller! And "this guy" learned it from Jim Chapin (RIP), one of Sanford Moellers closest students and world leading experts on snare techniques. And please explain how the Moeller technique, one of the most widely employed techniques of professional drummers, is "cheating". Really, we'd love to hear it Mr. Genius Drummerman. Better yet, why dont you post a video of you NOT cheating at the snare drum. I'm dying to see the "real" way to play a drum.

  • this guy is cheating.....the moller ....and the rudiments are done very mediocre!!!

  • Put the Closed Captioning on and read it with the words. x] Its way too hilarious!!

  • "I'm sure everyone wants to develop and enhance their speed" *MEGA SOLO THING* lol

  • what the fuck

  • what a madman!!

  • that snare is beautiful

  • Comment removed

  • far be it for me to disagree with anything tony says , after all he plays amazingly well .... but , i disagree with two things .. one , practicing on a pillow ... in addition to strength i think that learning and controlling extreme rebound is very important ..you cant do that on a pillow ... two , using heavier sticks ... i think you should use the sticks you normally use ... having said all that , tony`s technique is definitely one to admire and emulate .

  • @sweetfly66 u got that wright

  • this man is God at drums!

  • sweet

  • are you supposed to interleave the strokes between your hands or do you play 3 on one hand THEN 3 on the other?

  • when excersising it, do both but in a real musical situation, interweave them

  • yeah, you start with 3 on one hand, then go to your other hand, 3 strokes, and repeat.

So go from one hand to the other, don't play interweiving.

  • alternate

  • who has the fastest moeller in thhe world ?

  • jojo mayer

  • @lalalalsksksksjdjdjd

dont know who has the fastest but jojo mayer has a pretty fast moeller stroke

  • training with heavier sticks does increase your grip strength, thereby making everything else you do on the drums easier. BTW, what exactly are the "wrong" muscles?

  • @nashbird76 the guy's got a right.. if you train your wrists with really big sticks(bigger sticks=more weight) your wrists grow bigger and gain power and endurance but lose their agility and speed.. Jojo said that and to me it seems logical ..

  • @HumanOnFire then why is it that tony royster jr can play so fast yet he practices with bigger sticks?

  • thats not true if you do the technique correctly you should be fine

  • I'm speechless.

  • sounds familiar

  • Thats true...you aint have to call 'em out on it though lol. If you do the "moller technique" fast enough, the moller stroke is in it. Which is basically the whipping motion.

  • I don't think REPETITIOUSLY is in the dictionary :S

  • tony he's a fucking monster

  • @flippaton :

    actually it is in DICionary....

adv. recurrently, repetitively, in a manner which repeats itself ...

  • Enough about the snare. Check out his kit behind him. Haha..

  • thats pretty amazing. sweet sounding snare

  • his snare drum sounds perfect!

  • he makes bryant gumbel look like malcolm x. HA!

  • Video is out of focus.

  • If it was marching, you wouldnt see bend of the wrist on the upstroke. It would be all arm

  • anyone know what kind of snare drum that is?

  • well its a dw which is a little obviouse

  • its got a evans head

    and it sounds lovely

    so maybe a gretsch?

  • DW... check out the lugs... and the gold circular logo

  • he looks like he could be Don Cheadles

    love child

  • haha thats true

  • R.I.P Jim Chapin :'(

  • i LOVE that snare drum sound.

  • You are flipping amazing!! I am finding learning so difficult at the moment. I really want to learn songs but i cant find any i can do.

  • Tony does play with musicians.

  • Who?

  • jay z. if he is considered a musician

  • He spelled moeller wrong

  • Finally, a drum video that is actually usefull! And now to practice and practice....

  • stop making comparisons!

    drumming isn't a competition

  • joy jordonson or not this guy is goooooooooooooooooooood, but in reality there is better drummers then the both of them

  • jojo mayer has the best video on this technique

  • I have a question. does Tony only play drums alone or does he actualy play with musicians ?

  • oh yeah, he performs with many different music artists and bands.

  • Tony has played with other musicians and bands since he was very young. He got to play on stage with Max Roach, Tony Williams, Billy Cobham, and Dennis Chambers all before he was ten years old. You can check his website for any further information that you need.

    God Bless!

  • huge fan! HUGE FAN!!

  • those are para-diddle-diddles.

  • "Hey joey jordison is better!"

    "no there's no comparison"

"hey you sir are a fanny"

"no i'll kick your ass, you dick"

    "omg kids stfu"

    "FAIL"

"No you go fuck ya mum"

LOL you lot are lame, now stop! and listen to Tony royster's epic drum skill!!!

  • Stfu dude

i bet he is a better dummer than you

and joey jordison is pretty amazing but still they

    are like two different drummers

    FU

  • i wasn't comparing drummers fool! i was quoting word for word some of the dumb comments on this video...

  • lol king...way to be a dumb ass

  • shit, he already is a legend, i mean his solo on here when he was 12 is better than most older accomplished drummers.

  • seems like a nice young fellow

  • When he starts going really fast, is he still waiting for the right hand to finish all three strokes before he moves on to the left hand? Or does he start doing them at the same time?

  • Well, as far as I see, no.

In my opinion, when faster, he starts to make singles, but still using the moeller.

  • Ah that would make sense. Still ridiculously fast.

  • that snares got alot of ring

    very funky

  • LOL, they did. Regardless, Tony is awesome.

  • i love how they spelled "moeller" wrong

  • awesome job

  • groso...

  • Muito foda esse cara!!

  • i do buddy know how to play the drums i have my own kit son so shut up

  • right ppictures or gtfo

  • He seems so chill like i just want to jam and hang with him. Not like other celeb drummers.

  • yea right when you get to his level and make instuctional videos then you can say he needs to work on it

  • how can you say that its pretty choppy like you can do better anyway tony royster jr is better then you you cant talk

  • by choppy you mean technique wise? cause moeller is supposed to be that loose

  • your right on that.

but you do need to keep in mind his age. how old is he? like in his late 20s right?

  • yo, shut the hell up

  • i love how youtube lets tiny bitches like you talk big game

  • I love how children like you feed my rage, grow the fuck up, I have the freedom of speech and no one is going to stop me from stating my opinion. Gtfo /slit /slit

  • yeah big guy i bet you wouldnt say that to my face

  • Rofl, bet I would. O let me guess your going to tell me how much you wiegh/bench/curl and you've been taking boxing/kickboxing for years... Kid shove it up your fucking ass,

  • seems like you know that gig too well. buddy i dont know you you dont know me so why are starting stuff with me

  • Lol...Your just fucking retarded

  • uh nope... your the retard saying that he should have the perfect moeller but no one ever will there will always be slight variations. do you even drum?

  • Dude, just give up.

All of his replies to you in this lame

    argument have gotten thumbs up,

while all of yours have gotten thumbs

    down. Lmao

  • LOL

  • early 20s

  • its ahrd to believe that he's doing that roll at the end one hand at a time X_X

  • i dont think thats what he tried to do.

  • he's not.

  • Damn man after i've watched this video it boost my inspiration!!!! i need to work my ass even harder to have THAT result!!! SHIT i want it!!!!

  • I will now quit drums. This is too awesome.

  • wait, he said single stroke. of course his hands were too fast for me to see but it kinda looked liked he went into double strokes at the end. if they were indeed single, that's scary

  • they were single. the moeller technique is legendary because its absolutely epic, but so motherfuckin' hard to learn

  • I just puked..

  • " the basic idea is to increase speed, power, finesse, badassery, money, and smarts, while using less time, energy, and real though at all."

"i'm gonna do this perfectly real quick, and show you what the perfect triplets should sound like, except slower so you humans can comprehend"

    Royster is sick.

  • "basicly wat i like to do is practice......

  • oh yeah i totally got it.. :-/

  • rofl holy shit..He says it like everyone SUPPOSE to know what to do xD

rofl this guys insane hahaha too good

  • hahahah.... man do I feel good after reading the comments. I was about to switch to marackers. Tony is just unique, sure there are other styles which we may like, but as far as technique goes... he is the man.

  • im going for the triangle.

  • i mean i know its evans bt what type

  • what head does he use in that snare

  • He explains the MOELLER (not moller) technique it so much better on this vid than Jojo Mayer does on his 'Secret Weapons' dvd...

  • Im going to have to disagree. Tony explains the 3 stroke moeller here, Jojo completely breaks down the moeller in his dvd. He explains the principals behind it, using diagrams, shows you the two, three and four stroke moeller. He also shows you the variations of it such as the moeller pull out. Nothing against royster, hes and amazing player but 'Secret Weapons for the Modern Drummer' is definatly a must buy.

  • jojo is the only drummer to study from jim chapin and get moeller right in its entireity...

jojo's dvd is the best tape on technique ever...

  • Tony, you've shown us how they do it on your planet. So do you have any advice for us Earthlings? And moving to planet Drumdar isn't an option.

  • Travis braker sucks...

    Punk sucks

+44 sucks, but it's my opinion...

Tony is the best funk drummer

  • tony royster fucking sucks, travis barker is way better! haha nah only messing. this guy is a fucking machine!

  • i was about to cry, then i finished reading ur comment. lol

  • ive noticed this before, but he actually plays four hits when he comes out of it lol

  • Sorry Tony but you're a machine, I'm just a man.. :(

  • He probably has the cleanest moeller I've heard for someone any were near his age

  • snare sounds fkin awesome

  • they spelt the MOELLER technique wrong in the vid lol

  • fuck yeah youre right

  • If any of you are interested in building speed/endurance...listen to Death Metal/Extreme Metal drumming. There's nothing faster than that. Most of the fastest drummer's in the world play in Death Metal bands. Look up videos from Romain Goulon, George Kollias, Derek Roddy, Flo Mounier etc...

  • after he explains the moeller technique he goes into a fast part... and about 4 measures in he stops doing moeller and just uses his own strength lol, show offy not very educational. If you really want to know moeller buy a Jim Chapin video.

  • hes showing how it can build up your speed, hes not saying do it throughout, hense the title "developing speed"

  • I have to say that his use marching band sticks on pillows is a great tip. I started doing that when a friend I played in Drum & Bugle corp with suggested that. Tripled my speed inside of a year.

  • ok, i'll just practice that for the next 7 years straight..... and then start on my left hand. i'll be smokin by the time i'm 74! ugh.

  • lmao

  • he's really very fast dude.

    that was really dope.

    ahhh.

his a legend at the age bellow 25 man..!

    tony royster is the man

  • Great drummer, but i will have to disagree with the pillow practice, and heavier sticks, Secret Weapons for the Modern Drummer will explain why, cause i cba.

  • what?

  • as simple as that!

  • nice i also use heavy sticks when practicing rudiments, it really works!

  • i use to do the same practice on the pillow when i was 12 it works but the moeller i am gonna develop when i get my drums

  • thanks

  • What kind of heads are he using? Can't see what the logo says

  • evans

  • thanks

  • he did fail to mention that the last 2 stroke of the moller should be all bounce

  • Definitely just a vid to show off his skill. When you're as good as he is: throw some advice around and do some sweet demos and you have a good selling DVD. I recommend checking out Jo-Jo Mayer's Secret weapons for the modern drummer DVD. I've been working on that and it is very thorough. He tries to cover all the little details regarding drums strokes. It very well done. No all pretentious like my man TRJ. The guy never confesses to be a great teacher but JJ Mayer picks that slack up

  • snare, DW , maple shell...dont quote me on it though, the batter head is a 1 ply i think also,

    hes such a tight drummer

  • i dont think that specific snare is as great as the comments are raving it but w/e, maybe it's my speakers, but i got an HD sound card

  • hes controlling it a little much. look for other moller technique videos

  • comment no.86, wow youre good!!! lol:)

  • Wow. Snare is Sick. The crispness is beautiful. Whats the model?

  • I think its Yamaha.

  • dude pretty sure its all DW,

    considerin his like DW man.

  • Is his dad from Lake Charles,La
