Most went to Mexico where they were recently scrapped. Two came back to the US only to be sent back to Brazil for parts/scrap. One has been preserved in New Jersey.
On several occasions, I saw no fewer than seven trains at once right in Ridgewood station. Four tracks (in the 80's) and seven trains...hmm. A busy area all the way 'till things split up around, where was it, Glen Rock?
In that train pulled and pushed by 4172, did it have a Comet IB painted for Metro-North (the first car behind the locomotive)? There's also a video by YouTuber nysw252 of two trains at this same location in 2001. One train was all low-door Comet Is and the other was all Metro-North Comet IIs.
The red light was lit on whatever unit was at the rear to show other approaching trains there was a consist in front of them.
When the commuter trains were going backwards - they were push-pull set ups- the red light was lit up on the engine and the cab car (the car on the opposite end of the engine) had the headlight, when going forward, or the engine pulling, the cab car had the red light and the engine had the headlight lit with no red light.
This is from 'E-L Legacy' by Ron Mcelrath's Revelation Video. My response to your first comment bumped the one I told to look for onto the second page. Sorry about that.
A man by the name of Ron Mcelrath of Revelation Videos made this. This title of this program is 'E-L Legacy'. It was made as a retrospect about E-L and what had become of the property 20 years after Conarail (so it was made in 1996).
I know what this narator is, at the train club we have tapes to borrow, there is a two tape set called Rubber City Rails, taken right around this time period, the narator is the same, i'll post some clips an send them to you, I just thought of this now!
Just out of curiosity, have you ever seen the Railroad Video Productions Boonton Line head-end ride? It was done of 4164 following a large blizzard, and I must say, the horn work on that unit is rather impressive...
I love the chugging sound of the U34CH. They discontinued service in 1993 and 1994 and started using F40PH and GP40 PH2, and FH

Oh, yeah. I thought you meant that there was a portion of this video shot in Ridgewood. You need to be more clearer in what you're trying to say.

I was answering the question by enginesandrails87 I feel I was pretty clear.

Ridgewood Junction is on the north side of Glen Rock, you are correct.

I accidentally deleted your comment on the F-unit video, sorry. The horn is a Leslie A-200 and was common on first-generation locos.

ugliest horns ever, i always hated them.

A lot of people think the Nathan M-Series sound the best but I strongly disagree. To me they all sound like really loud truck horns.
