  • I bet it would be a touch better if it had "Popcorn Sutton's" Mountain Dew as the base.. LoL. Rest in Peace Popcorn Sutton. Thanks for this great lesson my great granny made this but I forgot how she did it until you showed me again. Thanks.

  • @rmstudio I have to agree with that, because I was able to run into some once, not his though, and it was the best I had ever made...Thanks

  • I'm definitely gonna make up a batch of this. My Grandma used to swear by a swig of whiskey for a cough and my other Grandma swore by Vicks vaporub. This recipe sounds much more appealing!

  • @mustangsuzie7 Yes it does, but mine are having a little vicks tonight...Thanks

  • Thanks for your recipe.

  • @Tiredfeathers You are welcome...

  • Misty needed to make your cough medicine tonight my daughter and I just couldn't stop coughing. It tasted pretty good and made both our throats calm right down. Thank you so much for sharing this. Blessings!

  • @BexarPrepper I am so glad it helped you...There has been times the children are coughing in the night, and it is the only thing to help it stop....Hope you get to feeling better....Blessings!

  • Just an update. I made some of this cough medicine a while back and it was sitting in my cupboard just waiting for someone to get a good cough. Well turns out, and thanks to a friend of mine, that it is now me with the cough and congestion. So I used it last night, and this morning the cough is pretty much gone. Cleared the phlegm up as well. I am so glad I came across Misty's videos. Now I can personally say it does work! TY Misty.

  • @apbmaxim Thank you....I am glad it turned out for you.....

  • My cough treatment is 'real': Apple Cider Vinegar and Honey mixed 50/50 (not pasteurized). Apple Cider Vinegar is also used to cure Mastitis in cows, etc. Best regards

  • @MrSchpankme Nice....

  • Again, another amazing video...your videos are better than anything I ever saw on tv when I had a tv years ago..thank you

  • @ConfectionaryArt Thank you so much!!!

  • Fantastic, thank you!!!

  • @HappyOregonMom Thank you!!!

  • Misty, do you need to keep it cool? Thanks!

  • @mommaonamission Well, if you keep it to cool it will kinda clump together, and is hard to deal with, but if you live in a very humid summer, and hot and things tend to mold then put it in the fridge in the summer, and then stir it and heat it a bit before taking....Thanks!

  • Hi,I'm from australia.and i gotta say your pretty cool, and your lifestyle is inspiring.all the best to you and yours.

  • @jibhorse Now that is cool....Thank you so much, nice to meet you.....

  • My Mom used all the same ingredients except she used honey. I will have to remember molasses.

  • @GreyManDet Yes so did Mountainmans grandma, but molasses works so much better, the darker the better......Thank you

  • good to know

  • @ElCoyotefromTexas Thank you!!!

  • i was wondering could you skip a step and use 100 proof peppermint schnapps or would that not work ? love your videos by the way :)

  • @bobrt28 You sure could try, I would do a 1/2 batch.....I could see how it would work....

  • Very good info , thank you for posting this . take care and God bless you and your family .

  • @dawala1000 Thank you very much!!!

  • What's the point of making home made cough medicine when you could just buy nyquil? Still, good job!

  • @WilliamsoftheBryan Because it does not have all that acetaminophen, and all the other extra ingredents in that they do not need, and you give too much of it and it builds up in your child or yourself......Thank you

  • @MissPatchwork I am glad it worked for you....Thank you!!!

  • Exactly what I usually use! Well, almost. We use whiskey, honey and lemon. It tastes pretty good, and it clears out whatever you have!

  • @ProjectSuperNinja Yes I tried it that way before, and then I got this recipie, and the molassa makes it work so much better, and if you have some kind of ever clear, or PGA, it really works great, and you do not have to take near as much.....Thanks

  • do you have a recipe for toddlers or small children? i have a three year old and it seems like her cough takes over her day when she gets sick she gets a prescription from her doctor but i really don't want to be giving her so much since she is so small so something more natural seems like it may help please msg me if you do have a recipe i would appreciate soooo much thank you!

  • @selinam10 Hey I understand about not wanting to give her so much med....They tylnol in it is bad for them....I do not really know any other recipie...But I would just use a 1/2 tsp. and see if it works on her....The combination relaxes her chest mucles and the molasses soothes them....It really is a good one....If she got bad I would deffanty try it....

  • @mmlrc6atgmailcom

thanks i think i'm gonna try it hopefully it will work at least at one night to see how she does thanks for responding so quickly your videos are very helpful!

  • I missed this, could of used it a few weeks ago.

  • @BuckeyeSparky LOL ....Sorry....

  • @BuckeyeSparky Thank you so much for the information! I am full time Army, and could not get my Husband to stop coughing. I was ready to set up the tent, and go sleep outside honestly. I made this up, and gave him 2 tbs an hour ago. NOT A PEEP!

  • @kensbest1 Thank Misty not me :)

  • Misty, where did you get that huge bucket of molasses? I have to pay $5 just for a jar smaller than a quart. God bless

  • @mamaprepper5 It is several years old, I got it when I lived on the creek when they were pressing the cane.....God Bless....

PS I only have a gallon of it left now....

  • i am gonna add this 2 r winter prep list thnx so much. i used 2 add peach brandy 2 strawberry cocoa made hot n give it to my younguns when they needed it. i also rubbed the bottom of their feet w-generic vicks n that still works 4 me 2 this day. i'd sure like 2 find a recipe 2 make it now. those great big jars we used 2 buy got little bitty w-a great big price! again, thnx n God Bless

  • @wyoladyreb O am glad you ae going to make this....But your other stuff sounds like it would work great, would love to have the recipie to it.....Yes nothing works like the ol Vicks rub...generic or not...Thank you and God Belss!!!

  • Misty thank you for all of the great information that you share, I love to watch your videos. Could you use peppermint extract or oil instead of the candies?

  • @backtobasics44 You are welcome....Yes I think it would work much better, the purer the ingredents the better it will work, if you use a PGA/Everclear it will work better too....Thank you....

  • Where are you from from your videos it looks like an amazing place to live

  • @ccolletti39 Thank you I am from TN.....

  • Thank you so much for this video. I am going to do this! When I was a small child I had a very bad cold and my dad made up a mix with whiskey, honey, and salt and pepper. Worked great! Now that I think back the whiskey probably put me to sleep and broke the fever. And again gave my mom and dad a break so they could get some rest! Thanks again.

    hollys493

  • @hollys493 You are welcome....What a wonderful story....

  • I am making this

  • @MichiganTNP Cool!!!

  • I'm gonna have to try that.Sounds like a really great thing to use!

  • @prettycountrygal Thank you .....

  • that is so cool. I am definitely going to dry this. Thank you for sharing

  • @knitkitten Thank you!!!

  • Howdy! Could you please get on RedBerryChick about making (and taking!) some of your cough medicine! She's got a bad chest cold and I reminded her about your recipe and of course she said 'yeah, I need to make some of that...' So I thought coming from you it might seem more official. I fear she'll end up at the doc's no matter what, but if she can get some good rest in the meantime, she might not feel as misrable until then.. Brightest blessings!

  • @AnnBearForFreedom I will do my best....Ues I knew she was sick, but didn't relize she that bad, thank you for letting me know. Thank you for letting me know...

  • thnx for posting this, I have done the honey and onions I will have to try this one, could I mix it with something else other then spirits

  • Hubby has had this nagging cough ( I think it is cheap cigs but he coughs for hours I am gonna make this tonight . Thank you

  • @SasyBecause It really helps, my grandma smokes and she sounds like she is dying at night sometimes from coughing. I would actually get up and go check on her. But when I started giving her this cough med. She sleeps so much better and if it starts up in the middle of the night a good swig and she is right back to sleep...You are welcome.

  • I'm 46 and i remember my mom making it for us kids and it works !....thank for the video....and god bless yall....peace

  • @seahorsecowboys Wow Mountainman is 48 and he remembers his grandma making it and how well it worked. Thank you for watching...and You are welcome God Bless

  • You might have already answered this but can you use honey instead of the molasses?

  • @jesusislord614 Yes you can, its just not as effective. A coating of the molasses tends to ease the cough better than the honey. I guess because it is thicker and stronger. But it will help with honey. Thanks for watching. Feel free to ask anything you like...

  • @hootncrow Glad to help you and thank you!!!

  • Thanks for the recipe Misty. Just found your videos. LOVE them. Keep it up.

  • @brendahere You are welcome. It is a very effective way to stop a bad cough. W/O all the additives...Thank you for watching...

  • Great recipe! But what's everything besides the alcohol for? LOL! Just messin' with ya, Misty. Where'd you get your molasses from? I know you said you have mills, but what goes in the mills? I'd like to know if I can extract a sugary substance from any wild plants.

  • @DemonHide There are 2 sourgum mills in the community one on Cane Creek and one on Russell Creek. They grow sourgum and press the cane and ground the heads and feed to their cattle. I don't know fuesure but I will check it out. I grow stevia it is sweet. Thanks.

  • Great recipe,Love it will half to try it.

  • @generalgene007 Thank you...

  • Thanks Misty for sharing some medicinal recipes. Great to do for you and your family.

  • @Waverip11 It really is the best thing to use to cut the cough so they can go to sleep...

  • I reckon if I had enough of that "recipe", I'd forget all about my cough. I wonder if that's in the bartender manual ? If not, it oughta be ! ...hehe

  • @mhpgardener Lol...I personally like to use moonshine it works the best, and it is hard to find. I would not want to encourage anyone to break the law though. Thank you....

  • i prefer my vodka straight..but yours might help better with the cough...my way you just dont care if you cough...lol...i just found you channel and subscribed ...i sub to any one who says "y'all" we here in the south have to stick togethe!r

  • @centervilletn Thanks it is nice to have someone else in TN...Y'all have a good night!!!!

  • Granny on Beverly Hillbillys had a similar concoction :) I'd fake a cough just to get a slug of that, lol. :)

  • @MyHollowpoint ROTFL!!!!! She was great wasn't she!!!! I'd give you one any way. It is strong though. You wouldn't want but one slug LOL......

  • So do we have a friend or a sister that wants to subject herself to a simple life out here on the west coast?

  • @mrpicky510 Lol. Well we won't approach that subject. Yes I do have a Very nice and pretty sister at that to. And loves every thing we do and more. But she has issues..............

  • id take 3 or 4. LOL. Thanks for sharing mam

  • @Dafarnakis If you did take 3-4 you would want tpo do it at one time....

  • @Dafarnakis Sorry it is early, I ment to sat want TO DO not tpo lol...

  • I had a Doctor tell me to do the same thing, but he didn't mention peppermints, works great.

  • @123karismith Peppermints is the kicker.....

  • Excellent information.

    Thanks for sharing

  • @56CrownVick You are welcome. Anything I can do to help.....

  • Great info Misty,I bet thats better than anything you can buy! I was wondering, how long do you think it will last,a few months,a year or what???

  • @ammohead73 A good year all the ingredients are long lasting. But I have never been able to keep it that long. Keep in a cool dark place. Warm it a bit before taking it works better, but it works both ways just fine.

  • @mmlrc6atgmailcom Thanks :)

  • Wow! That's a very cool receipe. I'm definately going to try it the next time I get sick. Thank you for making this video.

  • @TheMultiGunMan Thank you. It does work. And i reccomend make it up and it works better the longer it sits, kinda like ageing it. :-)
