Another question: Is Engine #19 still on Forest Avenue? The firefighters there were extremely kind to me and my family on December 1, 1985. I never got a chance to say thank you. I wrote about the situation in the Buffalo News, but they wrote engine 18, when it was 19.
So a very heartfelt though much belated thank you with love from a family in the 1200 block of West Avenue. I will never forget those firefighters as long as I live.
well i guess you r a guy that dont care about safety then r u BC Morris see im a fireman too and as we r trained dont make someone elses emergency urs until you arrive on seen if you r in that big of a hurry u will cause an emergency urself i think they did a good job of responding
i agree with garfield here. ima firefighter just outside of buffalo and i the few times ive ran to my locker in the truck bay i forgot shit. so its better to walk in the truck bay listen to whats going with the call and the info dispatch gives get ur gear on and kinda walk fast 2 the truck thats what i do. u dont havta run a maratho just 2 get out the station
Have we forgotten training, or is it a paradox. We don't run on scene, nor to our engines. Indeed, you want to get suited up, and rolling as fast as possible but you want to be professional and safe. It is better to listen to the call, understand whats going on, and then proceed.
Grabbing a print out and running out the door doesn't always work. It's better to get yourself prepared before you enter the truck because then its too late.
I've trained with 2 different cities, and 1 industrial automotive fire department. All say,"DO NOT RUN AT FIRE SCENES, DO NOT RUN TO APPARATUS!!! Just how we were taught in school. I've tried running... IT DON'T WORK!!
I have to agree. with the last too comments there is no hussle. You should treat every call as if its a life and death situation. I am with a Vol. organization and as many know we are toned and have a air siren go off and by the time that siren ends(3min) we are geared up and rolling out. That means leaving our homes getting to the station getting our turnout gear on and hoping in the apparatus...
Sethtriggs, It is easy to comment not knowing all the facts of a station. But I think the general opinion is "no hussle". We have one story stations and one is small. Our printers start before the tones. The crew grabs the print out and have wheels rolling sometimes 30 seconds after the tones. Concerning the pre-empt light, it's cheaper to fix it then pay for a lawsuit, workmans comp or engine repairs. All told, good video. I need to do some.
I hate to bitch, but damn that's bad. If my guys moved that slow, they would be doing turnout drills until they dropped. Plus they didn't hit the pre-empt light. Almost tagged that car. just a lawsuit waiting.
They're always close to the trucks, and as you can see they get out in a minute. (It's a one-story station) - Rushing doesn't really help all that much because it tires you out and also raises chances of forgetting gear. Actually you can see that the truck leaves 50 seconds after the dispatch tones (which I used to cue my videos).
Pre-empt light is busted and probably will be for quite some time. This city is a very poor one.
@joanplace58 its true to what sethtriggs was sayin but also you got 11-12 guys individually on the truck it only takes you like under 30 seconds to put on the gear everyone is at the firehouse when the call happens its not as bad as it seems
yeah well thier paid profess they can do whatever they want esp if theyre 2nd or 3rd due trucks in when im at my firehouse i take my time gettin 2 my gear
i swear, can they go any slower?!?!? gosh! i thought our fire dept. takes a long time coming out. our response time is excellent. well if you call under 1 min a good response time then ya. my town has a good fire dept.

I like to call it walking with a purpose. I have had chief officers jump on the truck and ask where we are going.
