  • The Reckoning and Amongst Friends are two of the greatest episodes of TV in history, bar none. Some of the best acting ever are in those episodes. The closing scene is still bittersweet after all these years - Peter leaves town as he came on foot with his backpack on, only this time, Assumpta wasnt there to pick him up and drop him off

  • I said it before & again here. Well if that's true about her asking to treat her character like that so she wouldn't be tempted to come back, then what about the people who watch the show? Do they have to be treated like this? More than 10 years past, and BallyK is still alive like this. So what about the people? I don't want to suggest that she's selfish but...being tempted to come back! that says a lot, doesn't it! I just feel like the audience have been betrayed.

  • Peter's gone "walk about" , hope he found himself.

  • I also felt like the ballyk theme didn't fit the emotions in this last scene. I cried so much the first time i saw the episode because it really was the final. First, Assumpta dies which i have to say is the biggest shock i have ever received watching any tv programme, and then Peter says goodbye as well. I think part of the reason why their relationship was so good was because they were so close in real life as well :(

  • @sweetamyleigh I wonder where he was going/where he thought he was going.

  • @sweetamyleigh I know. I sat in front of the TV in floods and mum and dad were looking at me like I was mad. It's really like saying goodbye to your best friends or something. The best way I can describe it is about 10 years ago we used to go and stay with my Aunt and Uncle and whenever we left I remembered all the good times we'd had that year and how I wouldn't see them again for a year. That's exactly what it felt like ... except that I could potentially watch the DVD every day!

  • I don't know what to make of the fact that at the end of series three, they use the BallyKea theme. I mean I'm in two minds about it. On the Reckoning, they don't because Assumpta's just died. Then on this one... half of me says it's good because it's a goodbye to Ballykissangel (for me, at least) - a "one more time for old time's sake" type thing. But in some ways it seems too ... it's like it doesn't seem meaningful enough. I don't know what anyone else thinks. All so sad!

  • does anyone know what Branden asks Father Peter at 1:17?

    And what is Peter's response?

thanks. Love the first three seasons of the series.

  • So many poignant moments here... Assumpta's dog barking in the background when Peter looks in the direction of the pub, Brendan - the first person to speak to Peter when he arrives (the flying confessional), is also the last person to speak to him when he leaves ... excellent series.

  • Season 3 is just depressing overall. There's Brian's financial ruin, Fr Mac's past indescretion , Fr Mac's heart attack, Donal's heartbreak, Peter's anst , Assupta's marriage, Peter's depression over Assumpta's marriage... all culminating in assumpta's death and peter's departure..

It's heartbreaking. I've stopped watching at Changing Times. I can't watch the polar bear scene without wanting them to go just a little further before Assumpta pushes Peter away. It's practically traumatic.

  • Ohh breaks my heart, this episode and the reckoning. :( so beautifully done

  • I must admit...having Assumpta die and Father Clifford leave was horrible. Actually, I swore I would never watch another episode after Assumpta died. lol But, it wasn't really that bad. I mean, it wasn't the same...but it still flowed. After watching the interviews and seeing how 'Assumpta' basically said that she wanted her character killed so there was no way she could return. That set my mind at ease.

Awesome awesome show! Please but it back on the BBC!

  • I agree. I can't watch this show after Peter leaves. And Ambrose's death, it just all goes downhill. I like to think that one day Peter comes back, maybe permanently. I think after some soul searching he will remain a priest . In a strange way, he is now able to do right by both Assumpta and the church. I didn't see her death coming, and it still makes me so sad. At least he told her; that's really good.

  • @mtnwmgirl Agreed the magic ended when Assumpta & Peter were gone.

If Peter were one day to return I dont think he would still be a priest. Ideally we would want the relationship to (somehow) resume. I also agree it was so important that he had finally declared his feelings to her.

  • Seasons 4-6 suck. There just wasn't the magic anymore after the Peter/Assumpta characters ended.

  • Yes the series ended for me here to.Such a sad ending, I DONT even like watching Assumptas death scene so sad. would have liked to see them get married and live happily ever after somewhere, but it was not Jane Austen that was writting the script.

  • haha nice comparison to Austen ;-)

  • what does brenden ask him? and his reply?

  • I also stopped watching BallyK at this point. Too empty to continue without Peter and Assumpta. I do however, think Peter would have have gone on to meet someone else in the future to love -- he is too loving of a person not to. It's in his soul.

  • This series never gets old. the last two episodes of season 3 are some of the very best TV you will ever lay eyes on. I find it very difficult to believe that there may be people out there who say they didnt like this show. A very sad, bittersweet finish to the show here
