  • I should play this but when I hear how this sounds, seems to me simply impossible to do in a really short time but with work and faith in yourself, everything is possible .. :)

  • I love the way Gould plays Bach, but prefer Gulda's driving pulse throughout this prelude and fugue. Gulda's Mozart is also amazing.

  • gulda is playing this piece also magnificently you cant say whos better in world of classical music for me best inteprpets of bach are gould, gulda, argerich and richter each of them playing bach beautifully in therír own ways

  • @Axotrotl Still Gould is my favourite when it comes to Bach...

  • @matth1232000 Not in the 1st part of this prelude, in the whole Prelude 8 or in Prelude 1, all of book 1. There are no dots above the notes; therefore, Bach would hate the obsessive stacatos that Gould, like a horse jumping, loves to do. Gulda plays the three much better, paragraph.

  • @bachvermeer Thanks for telling us what Bach would have thought.

  • fugue sounds techincal like a robot

he needs to not do so much precise playing

    let the music breathe

  • @AsiankidPRO it's all interpretation, and also take into account the time when this piece was composed.

  • @AsiankidPRO

You talk like he is playing romantic music. Baroque playing is all about precision. He is accurate, but if you think this performance is devoid of emotion, you are not paying attention.

  • glenn gould is much better but gulda is still magnificent

  • @BigBiff88

On what grounds do you assert that Gould is superior? Can you provide specific examples of what makes Gould better?

  • THis is the best performance I could find. It's a good reference for an amateur like me.

I love the way he plays the prelude, the fugue sounds a bit mechanical though.

  • I've been giving so many positive reviews, its about time I pick on some of the renouned but , too technical players. Friedrich Gulda is a superbly skilled performer,.. but like Glenn Gould's Playing, I'd rather be able to enjoy the music than be distracted by this obsessive compulsive "precision" characterised by plikky, plikky, picky, picky, playing!!! Music is life it needs to breath!!!

  • @Geopholus open up your ears, they can´t have an obsessive compulsive precision without breathing.... perfection includes everything, even letting loose

  • Well.......I suck. That was perfect.

  • Wow, absolutely flawless.

  • Gulda or Gould??? I think I'm going for Gould. Hard descision though.

  • Die beste Interpretation, die ich von diesem Stück bisher gehört habe! Ganz großartig!

  • Gulda has always been a favourite of mine in this music. Excellent playing.

  • The perfect tempo in my opinion. Richter is phenomenal, Gould is well...Gould...But there is something about this interpretation that speaks to me more than any other.

  • PERFECT!!!!!

  • Beautiful piece! Go Bach!

  • owowow! very nice drills! Awesome!

  • @MyLordLoke Very nice "jazzy" trills indeed!

  • @MyLordLoke I trust you meant trills and not drills.

  • I think this prelude is my favourite from Book I

  • This is awesome.

  • A great interpretation, especially in the fugue. I think Gulda is better in Bach than Beethoven. Above all, a great artist.

  • Gulda one of the best at Bach, and the work a legendary masterpiece for "practising students" purposes,

  • Great individualistic interpretation in the hands of a very skilled musician. Bravo!

  • Terrific!!!
