If you want too try something a little bit different as regards to the absurdity of war then look no further than the GREEN FIELDS OF FRANCE by eric bogle and performed by THE FUREYS?
in my humble opinion the finest ever song written about the futility of war.
@iambeastLol very true fantastic song and very poignant..my grandfather was in rfc and at somme..many men were changed beyond beleif and little if any had any help when war ended..a brilliant video ..well done...
In a little over 2 years, it will be 100 years since the start of the great war. I think they should release this and Dire straits "brothers in arms" with all the proceeds going to a forces charity.
Amazing, This should win awards it is that well constructed. I would love this to be shown on National TV for everyone on Remembrance Day to show the futility of war. Schools should show this as well to make the young generation understand what it was REALLY like.
@iambeastLol I envy you... I'm 55 & have only just discovered Magnum. I wish I'd found them years ago..but better late than never. They are the most complete rock band I've ever heard, since buying 3 of their albums, I haven't played anything else for the lst 3 months. Everything else sounds tame.
Tony Clarkin is an exceptional songwriter and a fantastic guitarist. Magnum played "Les Morts Dansant" last night in Newcastle and I had tears in my eyes.
Mr. Clarkin, you are a very talented songwriter, and that's no cliché.
I was asked to create something for a week of school remembrance day assemblies and this was what I came up with. As Tony says you can't get footage of executions so I went with the idea of the soldiers running into battle as being "The Dancing Dead". I wanted to show that war affects everyone, hence the pictures of the children and the soldiers from multiple nations towards the end.
@UKWookie richard my friend - this is something ive always wanted to see done - the most emotional war song ever written and you have done it superb justice - this should be shown on rememberance sunday every year worldwide -absolute perfection
Just to put it a little bit into context, the original video for this was done over 5 days in 1992 using 3 VHS video recorders and a small 2 channel video mixing desk, this wasn't edited on a computer. The original VHS master was converted to DVD in 2007 and the audio was then redubbed on a computer. I gave Tony a copy on VHS back in 1992 and then again on DVD in 2007.
An absolute classic song indeed! Tony Clarkin is in my view one of the most criminally underrated guitarists and songwriters. This is just one of his many songs about the effects that war has on people. Brilliant video Richard and very nicely done!
Fantastic video, really enjoyed it, this song carries a lot of nostalgia for me, thanks for sharing it :-)

This IMO has to be Magnum's best song ever followed closely by a Storyteller's Night :)
