  • I remember a film where the monsters had red faces wtf is this shit lol

  • I think the 2011 is better. :)

  • Thanks for uploading this. I remember the trailer on a Beta tape when I was little, way back in the 1980's.. It seems silly but hearing them say "we want you" over and over still gives me nostalgic goosebumps.

  • FUCK OFF popcornfreak!

  • Boy I wish they still had double features. There was a theater in Pomona Cal that showed new and old films together. I saw Beneath the planet of the apes with 5 million years to earth.. My dad loved horror movies so we'd get to go sometimes.

I also saw a lot of Vincent Price movies when they were new.. at the drive in.. mask of the red death ..last man on earth ...house on haunted hill W/psycho,the latter being the new release. Also others flicks like. the flesh eaters, the birds...great stuff

  • i like the remake better but this looks good

  • Well, it's better then the remake.

  • It´s about a family who couldn´t pay the eletric bill anymore.´Then they discover something strange about the late grandmother from which they inherited the house, she was the blair witch and kept Jason and Freddy Krueger in the basement ,they break loose but are defeated by Mr.magoo cause he has an amazing sense of direction in the dark. A MASTER PIECE!

  • Uncle Charley's scarier than those damn puppets!

  • the girl in the Grave Encounters thumbnail looks like my ex.

  • @CoffeeSquid mine too

  • Hey, fuck popcornfreak, every last one of you. Get a real job.

  • This movie is great! The plot is bizarre, incredibly fascinating and the actors are great.I would recommend this movie to anyone. It makes you think, making you face your own contradictions: the necessary ingredients for an outstanding movie. Check it out on Popcornfreak

  • It's too bad Kim Darby wasn't in more movies as an adult.

  • I'm not afraid of the dark. I am afraid of what's IN the dark xD

  • omg newer one is way better

  • in the 2011 its a little girl in 1973 its a grown woman, why do some remake movies have to change the original?just plane dumb :\

  • this video reminds me of how stupud trailers were back then

  • I was 6 years old when this TV movie came out. It scared the shit out of me.

  • I liked Bailee Madison as Sally, as contrast to the original.

  • I didn't see any little girl in this trailer.... I loved the girl in the remake, she's so cute!! and a great actress

  • I liked the remake, but personally, I feel like it was -really- a sequel to this, rather than a full on remake.

  • i've seen the remake, but personally, i think the original movie is better.

  • @lilxxcars exactly!

  • Now they're going to redistribute this like fuck

  • Damn, this looks creepy!

  • @whowho75

I was 9 or 10 when the movie premeired on ABC on Saturday night. Like many kids who were allowed to stay up to see it, the night had seen me getting VERY little sleep.

Now that I'm older, the film isn't as scary, but it's a lot of fun to pop my DVR into the player now and then and use it as a fond reminder of some of the best days of my life (if somewhat troubled in my case) and a day when TV horror movies ruled with an iron fist. :-)

  • Looks wack

  • the new one looks scarier

  • @adv680597 nah saw it it's good but not scary

  • I just saw the new version in the theaters, and I want to see this one so I can compare them. This one seems scary, as well, but I have to say - the new one is pretty scary.

Or maybe that is just me. :I

  • the new remake stinks!!

  • @Cloberzz39 it ain't bad it was good but the old one always will be better

  • Why is it I'm always sooo much more fascinated and creeped out by either stop-motion or puppet animated creatures than CGI ones? Ugh they just freak me out. Love it though

  • I'll have to maybe check this one out. Just got done seeing the new one and it sucked and wasn't scary at all? Does anyone recommend this one b/c normally the originals are much better.

  • I heard the new movie wasn't bad, but didn't match the creepiness of the original.

  • I love old movie trailers

  • You guys should see the remake. Its so lame. I thought it would be scarier.

  • @CartoonDeeDee yeah i know what you mean i just saw it Friday and was disappointing.....

  • @CartoonDeeDee its not lame tha creatures look BADASS In tha new one these ones r just Fugly, but still scary

  • I had a fireplace in my bedroom. At 8 years old, this movie terrified me! I still think about it now and then. But, NOW they are making a new one. Great. lol I know a lot of people my age who were scared by this. I find it weird that the Sally in the remake is a child.

  • I have been trying to remember the name of this movie as a kid. When I read that Don't Be Afraid of the Dark was a remake, I had to look for the original. Finally! This movie has haunted me since I was a kid. It scared me to death. I remember it being on when I came home from school and wondering WHY this movie was on so early. Freak out. I just knew those critters were coming t o get me. The vent above my bed would get the best of my imagination. I was sure I heard them whispering!

  • @84heroes1 She did't shower in the dark. They turned the lights off while she was showering.

  • I was just a kid when I saw that movie on TV too. It was a year before I would go in the basement of our house again. Geez...didn't anybody's parents pay attention to what their kids were watching in those days?

  • @JCatan56 Do anyone's parents do that *now*?

  • I saw this as a kid, too. The freaking "we want you!" chant scared the hell out of me.

  • omg. I remember this movie! I saw it just last year!

  • dont worry i "wont be afraid of this gay ass movie"

  • What did they want her for? Kim Darby always gave me the creeps.

  • @Spartacus217 to join them. They felt she set them free from within the furnace

  • I was also 5 when I saw this movie on TV. I snuck out of my bedroom and laid quietly in the hallway. No one realised I was there until I let out a blood curdling scream. That movie traumatized me as a child and took weeks if not months before I finally forgot all about it. Can't wait to see the remake, I think I can handle it now =)~ without jumping out of my bed making a mad dash to the bathroom and back.

  • as a child i saw this on tv in the early 1970's i was just mezmerised by it....I wish someone would post it on here

  • shat myself watching this when i was a kid lots of nightmares

  • Yep, I to saw this as a child and I had to sleep with the lights on for two weeks.I think it was the movie of the week on tv back then.I couldn't remember the name of this movie until i saw the trailer for the remake. I wouldn't let any children under the age of 12 see this movie .

  • Did she say, "crapped in my dress"?

  • @clevelandphil "grabbed at my dress". If you saw the movie you would know what the little creatures were doing during the dinner party.

  • "Sally!!, she set us free"

  • OMGosh....goooooosebumps....I have remembered this stupid movie all these years! A stupid babysitter let me watch it when I was like 8-9yrs old....only movie I ever had nightmares about...till this day I remember it and have always told my hubby about it....soooo crazy! Wonder if the new one will scare me just as much hahahahha....

  • scariest movie i aw as a kid ....cant believe they made a remake

  • @whowho75 the remake's going to be much scarier, it's even rated R not for sexual content or anything just because it's so terrifying

  • my sister and I freaked out over this movie. but i remember that they edited out the little ppl. you heard them but you couldn't see them which was scarier. we saw it in Latin America. amazing that a lot of folks who were young back then had the same reaction.

  • Comment removed

  • 1 os scarier fliks saw as a kid!

  • @ArashiFan4Ever My bad:(

  • @audrinaINchains and @ArashiFan4Ever , WOW!!! You two are the first ones, I've seen, to have a racial run-in on YOUTUBE and settle it calmly without name calling or overreactions. Thank you for having sense.

  • @ArashiFan4Ever They're white, what do you expect?

  • CAN someone please upload the ending or give me a link to the movie? pleasee

  • is kim darby playing kim darby in this the narrator was misleading

  • This movie was the ONLY movie I can remember as a child that truly scared the piss out of me! Yet I watched it many times by myself... Of course I then had to check under the bed and the closets, etc before "trying" to go to sleep. The effects of this movie will linger upon any child that watches it. Truly!

  • if i saw it i would scare the shit out of it , id say ahhhhh a new puppy i will love it and hug it and kiss it and when its dead id miss it ... it would be like this crazy fucks a monster run away from godzilla.

  • @MrNewbie69 havent u seen the trailer the girl was under her covers and they were there so yeh ur screwed

  • I would kick that thing if I ever saw that >.>

  • Great premise, mediocre execution, hilariously bad trailer narrator.

Still look forward to the remake though because as said this had a great idea for a movie to be scary as hell. Just that the acting limited it greatly (reading the comments I'm clearly not the only one who thought this).

But seriously what is with that narrator? Sounds more like he's introducing a Disney movie or a Discovery Documentary. Isn't even TRYING to sound ominous.

  • A really fun movie. The remake looks interesting.

  • This film made me afraid to sleep on the floor for years as a kid. Glad GDT is handling the remake.

  • I hated the acting in this movie, but the general premise was incredibly creepy and so were the creature puppets. I love the fact that it never actually explained what the creatures were or where they came from - that made them scarier. I can't wait to see the del Toro remake :)

  • vean nuestra entrevista exclusiva en video con guillermo del toro y lean la reseña de "don't be afraid..", su nueva produccion, en nuestro portal en español!

  • how i download the movie i love this film OMG plz answer me thx ;D

I saw this film in cinema is very very good

  • Never seen this but it looks lame...

  • @TheNexus18 Actually, I hear it's pretty good. Ever hear the old saying, "Never judge a book by it's cover?"

  • This movie is legendary to me. It is actually a very significant part of my childhood, like many of you. Of course, it scared the living shit out me as a kid, more than anything else. I was always fascinated by it though and I watched it many times b/c my dad had taped it off tv. I had nightmares about those creatures, including one where they dragged me into the crawlspace under the stairs. I watched this trailer last night and then later, whlie asleep, the theme music intruded into my dreams.

  • @crabula I'm looking forward to the remake but I have a bias against it because I have a sentimental love of the original. I'm just glad that del Toro is involved because I have really enjoyed his films. But one of the most effective things the old one had was the extremely creepy music. Judging by the trailer, it looks like the remake will be full of by-the-book-hollywood-formula-cliche bullshit. But trailers always look that way. Anyway, it'll be interesting to see what they do with it.

  • scared me too as a kid, so much that I still think I see those creatures at night running around the house. Sometimes wihen I shower to this day, that scene pops in my head.

  • Saw this film when it first aired in 1973 (as a child) on a black and white set, in the dark, when I was supposed to be in bed. Scared the bajeezus out of me. For years afterwards I was creeped out by the little "tater heads". Looking forward to the 21st century version.

  • This movie also horrified me as a child.

  • Scared the piss out of me, too!

  • i too recall this film, it "was a made for TV" movie correct?.

Kim Darby reminds me a lot of Alexis Stewart appearance-wise.

wonder of the new remake will be as creepy as this now classic

    film is. time will tell....

  • @popsicklevideo 90% of all remakes are complete crap and today's horror movie remakes are the absolute worst! I love Guillermo del Toro's work, but this proves that even brilliant directors like him are out of ideas. All we get these days from Hollywood is unoriginal CGI garbage.

  • il have to watch the original before the new one comes out

  • but I'm afraid of the DARK!
