  • Looks good, but you got to use more expansive thinset next time (Mapei Kerabond Keralastic or Customs Megabond). It will not come out that easy.

  • Its is if you have an unexposed edge to lever the tile off, unlikely to see that example in real life

  • Loved the video. I have to replace a tile and your instruction make it look easy. Thanks for posting!

  • Also just to clarify my post below - On top of the mesh was in some parts grout, but in others what I think is cement. The tile that cracked had way too much space in the center of it (it was the tile in the most walked on spot in the kitchen). Do I need to use enormous amount of the glue, do I need to do multiple layers? do I need layers of different materials to make sure those tiles don't crack again?

  • Hello, I got the tile out, but then when I looked inside it wasn't just grout. There was grout put on top of a metal mesh-like thing (which I believe is there from how things were done few decades ago). From what I see I think I understand why my tiles cracked. Question is what do I do when the space between the mesh-like thing and where I need my tile is about 1.5 cm?

  • he doesnt say what the tool is that he uses to scrape the sub floor...what is that?

  • step 1. remove grout

step 2. chip a corner off tile (rather than smash the middle with a hammer)

step 3. chisel out remaining tile and adhesive

    step 4. set new tile

    step 5. grout and clean

  • You didn't mention that grouting should wait until AFTER the original thinset has dried & hardened...at least overnight.

  • This is. awsome, thank you

  • Great video. Many thanks!!

  • Great job, clear and concise. I'm replacing about 8 tile because the installer didn't have a clue as to what he was doing. So sad. Thanks again.

  • your grout is so dark

  • @cromerbeach For a white trash family like that you have to have it dark.

  • @TheChemist187 I'm guessing you have a very low IQ and probably no frineds

  • think i'll call the tile guy

  • @mcb0613

Sorry it's 6 months after you've already posted...but, that tool is just a 4" floor scraper. Sold at almost every hardware store and most definitely at lowes or home depot. It has a razor blade that is ideal for pulling up old thinset or paint on the floor.

As for removing all of the thinset, yes! If you want your replacement tile to sit level with the other tiles you'll need to remove the old thinset. Once you pull up the cracked tile the old thinset has no value to you anymore as

  • Oh this a scientology video?

  • What's the name of this tile and where can I buy it?

  • Any ideas on what to do in cases where that same individual HAS to be repaired, as there is no exact replacement available?

  • @DataRelater

Scientology doesn't get criticized for what they believe per se. Scientology is criticized because of the way they operate.

Scientology has a lot of enemies because they're greedy, they defraud their members, they bully and harass their ex-members & critics, they separate families, their RPF labor camps, their deceptive front groups, and corruption, etc.

Scientology definitely deserves the attention that they getting. They brought this mess upon themselves.

  • what is the tool you use to remove the old thin-set (at 1:36).. it took me ages to remove my old one.. is it essential to remove it all, or does it not matter?

  • What happens if you do not remove the original thin set and you simply apply new thin set over the old...then set the tile?

  • Excellent video! Thank you very much.

  • you guys should check out speedyvalve

  • Great

    Vid!

  • thanks for your help

  • this is a crap example of how to replace a tile. The grout you are scraping out is wet, there is an exposed edge to the tile you remove and you are hitting the tile once. You need to show a real example, it is never this easy and you are full of it!

  • @Blythep1 You are in idiot Blythep1...no one out there would need anything more to know how to replace a cracked tile. I'm sure if there's a sesame street version out there for you somewhere...

  • What about putting sealer on the new grout? Hmm, looks like he never answers the questions here. Not good.

  • good video alot easier with a demo hammer though.

  • I did a 1000 square feet of tile in my house. First time ever. Good video. Never needed to repair tile YET. But I will one day. Thanks.

  • great seems simple:)

  • thank you very much looks very easy the way you show it.

  • I've layed full tile floors/showers etc but never have I replaced just one broken tile in the middle of a floor. Would it be okay to use my 4" angle grinder and diamond blade to cut the grout out or is the handy dandy grout scraper a must?? I have 3 tile to replace in my g/f's pet hospital this week so any help would be appreciated...thanks

  • thanks.

  • Hey , do you wipe it off right after with water or wait a little longer for the grout to sink in?

    Thanks. good video.

  • is this guy frank mir ?

  • Just replaced 3 tiles after watching this vid. I had to hit them with the hammer more than once but it was easy.

  • che colla di merda

  • My question would be why not use a construction adhesive with a new tile without chipping out the old thinset?

  • I think if we use adhesive then our tile level may be went uneven. because a true layer of thin set is required for grip.

  • eau9999, I've pulled up tile that's been set for 5 years that pulled up easier than the one on the video. Most of the time if you're replacing a tile its because its already cracked and coming up anyway. This video is more about demonstrating, not showing a real life situation.

  • This is not a real life situation. You need to make a real video with a real floor. You are giving the wrong messege. Why don't you make a video with a floor thats been set for a year and break a tile in the middle of the room. This vid is BULL.

  • why dont you do it yourself..if ur better

  • he dont have to, expert village already did that clip.

  • that look's pretty easy

  • Excellent! Thank you.

  • cheers pal!

  • You're hire! I live in NH! :)

  • Thanks for this video. Really appreciate the step by step scenes while you explain! You should have your own show! Real pro!
