Yeh... They were responding to the Byzantine Emporor's call for aid from the Seljuk Turks who were attacking them in Asia Minor and the Byzantine Empire was orthodox christian (i.e they had different beliefs.) The establishment of the Kingdom of Jerusalem was a subversion of this by people like Raymond de Toulouse etc because they stood to inherit nothing in Europe but could freely take land from muslims. The crusades as with any war were state business and religion was a tool.
I'm doing a research paper on the crusades all my databases have said that the christian knights were sent to avoid conflicts in western europe. and of course to help fortify the christians in the byzantine empire and to take back the holy land. not because they didn't have the same religion
@frowardurchin07 lol. taking back the holy land means it wasnt in the hand of christians! of course the crusades were because the land was under islamic rule. that's not the point. the point is how each party ruled the people and treated the enemies. the first crusaders took jerusalem by bloodshed that flooded the streets of the city, killing thousands. it was a cleansing of the muslim population. when saladin took the city back, he didnt take revenge.
@frowardurchin07 saladin rather followed the example of our prophet in his battles: never to kill a woman, a child or an old person, not to set worship places or homes on fire, and protect the people of the book (christians and jews) and their properties. the christian minority is kept in palestine, syria, iraq, lebanon and egypt. jews lived among the muslims in north africa peacefully. now turn to spain. the christians forced both muslims and jews to leave or convert. LIVE EVIDENCE!
The crusades were started because the Muslims were slaughtering Christians to pinch their land - it's western propaganda which supports Islam (because of fear) never tells us that it was the MUSLIMS who started them because of their slaughtering ways - typical BBC though, won't tell the truth if it disses Muslims...
@rhyfelwrDuw loooooooooooooool. if the west fears muslims they would at least withdraw their armies from muslim countries. this would be better for muslims than making propaganda for them.
@aymansomara I wish they would withdraw from Muslim countries and throw all Muslim trouble makers out of our countries! Send the terrorists back to where they came from! We don't want or need an archaic backward bunch of loonies in the West thank you...
You basically said the Pope told people to go fight for GOD and take Jerusalem but really it was all about keeping Islam away from Rome? WHAT LIES !! I would expect nothing else from Catholicism.
Islam invaded modern Turkey and took Christian Constantinople where was the Pope when Christians needed him? He refused to send soldiers to help. Why? because it got rid of the Eastern Church and now he could claim to be the 1 true church of Christ. DISGRACEFUL!
Islam advanced all over Europe, By Force (Spain, Port, Sicily, France), ransacking Christian lands and selling off Christians To Jew Slave Traders.
The Crusades was a Defensive War, you Fool!
Jerusalem and North Africa and Europe had been Christian Lands. OURS! Not theirs. u dont deserve to breathe, Coward.
Rome sent hundreds of soldiers to Aid Constantinople during its siege, but was busy fighting its own wars from Visigoths and other marauders from Northern Europe.
Once again if it was a defensive war why did the Catholic church not defend Constantinople? Infact what Roman Catholic soldiers there was in the city they raided it and stole what riches' there was and abandoned the city to the Muslims.
Was Romanism or the Pope any better then the Muslims? I seem to remember the murder of tens of thousands of peaceful Protestants across Europe as well.
Constantinople was still Christian you would expect fellow Christians to defend it. But it wasn't in Rome's interests so they let it fall now look what we ended up with.
Constantinople rightfully didn't take part in Rome's Crusades as they were un-Christian. Liking for GOD? What happened the ten commandments and Do not Murder?
Protestants killed tens of millions? Your joking right...if anyone has killed millions its The Catholic Church.
Poland had nothing to do with the United Kingdom, it was on the other side of Europe and we had little links with them but we still went to war with Germany to defend their freedom!
As Constantinople was on Europe's border and was coming under attack from Islam the enemy of Rome you would expect them to come to the aid of their fellow Christians not only for Constantinople but also knowing that Islam wouldn't stop at the borders of Europe they were going to come further in.
We warred with Poland to Create World Govt (UN), IsraHell. and Spread Communism TO 11 nations.
60 Million died in WW2 over a Border skirmish between Poland and Germany.
U said, It had 'Nothing To Do with the UK' and Youre right. No sense in that needless war.
Rome Sent Troops and Hundreds of Archers when word was released of the siege.
But Just as Constantinople never took part in the Defensive Christian wars against Islam with Rome, Rome was under no obligation to war at Constaninople.
I said it had nothing to do with the UK relating to the fact we had no connection with Poland. You can hardly describe the invasion << of Poland by the Nazis as a border dispute...lol now I really know your mad.
The UK and other world powers got involved because they seen the risk the Nazis posed to elsewhere in Europe. Just the same as the Pope should have got involved to defend Constantinople and stop the spread/threat of Islam, even though they had no connection to the city.
'Hitler will have No war, but we will force it on him, not this year, but soon.' - Emil Ludwig Cohn in Les Annales, June, 1934
"Germany is the enemy of Judaism and must be pursued with deadly hatred.
The goal of Judaism of today is: the complete destruction of the nation. We demand a complete blockade of trade, the importation of raw materials stopped, and retaliation towards every German, woman and child." (Jewish professor A. Kulischer, Oct, 1937)
@StSimonMartyr Can you prove that!?! (without giving the link to some racist and fascist site) And it would have been a miracle to have the entire army ready in just one day to take revenge. Maybe you should pay more attention next time during history lesson and learn about the German and Russian treaty to split Poland once they conquered it.
@StSimonMartyr the byzantines occupied north africa and oppressed egyptians. the islamic invasion was liberation to them, they welcomed the muslims and they converted freely. now egypt has 10% orthodox christian population.
the muslims also lived peacefully with christians andjews in spain. after the reconquista, muslims and jews were forced to convert or leave. jews left to live with muslims in north africa.
muslims have always lived peacefully with minorities.
North Africa was never Occupied by Byzantines. It was a Roman 'colony' and Rome ceased to exist, It fell into a vaccum, and the inhabitants converted by peaceful means, Islam spread its Faith By the sword and force (for all intents and purposes) to those and other regions. There were battles and massacres evidencing this fact(s)
Muslims and peave are antithetical.
The word slave comes From SLAV, White Christian Europeans captured By Muslims and sold to Jews who ran the Slave trade.
@StSimonMartyr Let's take egypt as an example. Now in Egypt 10% of the population is orthodox christians. In their recorded history, they thank the muslims of liberating them from Roman oppression. They don't accuse muslims of forcing them to convert. They lived and still live with muslims peacefully. They built most of their churches after islamic rule because catholics oppressed them.
@StSimonMartyr On the contrary, spain is an example of how christians treat other religions under their rule. Muslims didn't oppress christians and jews in Al Andalus, actually sometimes the muslims caliphate had jewish and christian ministers. After the reconquista, jews and muslims were converted or displaced. do you deny this?
They were displaced as they had Subverted the government, the institutions, the Tax authority, and were outwardly professing to be Christian, but were in reality, Talmudic Jews or Crypto Marrano, hiding amongst the mask of Christianity or Islam.
Battle of Guadalete river in 711 Muslims Conquered Western Europe and spread through Polygamy (4 wives & Can divorce) Mohammed had 16 wives.
1000, Muslim occupied Spain was the most oppressed part of Europe. Forced conversions & Taxes (Jizya)
I thought the Crusades were initiated because Jerusalem, which was under Byzantium rule, was taken over by the Muslims. Not because there were "too many Muslims". :/
@GreenBottleCap yeah the video forgot to talk about the prior muslim invasion of europe sisicily spain portigul deep in to france where they were stoped and on the eastern front the byz empire was losing its territory but the muslim occupation of western europe was more than 100 yrs the crusade was about controling $ trade routs and preventing another invasion of europe at least the 1st crusade was the rest well thats different .
this is cool for kids. but east and west had problems wayyy before first crusade. and what about the other crusades??? the ones not vsing islamic territory!!!
Y ppl would say little joke who cannot digest...Crusaders killed innocent muslims in the first crusade. When the leaders like Salaḥ ad-Dīn ( arab ) Nur-ad-din Zangi ( turk ) came , the other crusades failed and we let them go their country..Not like youv done in the first crusade..
Y ppl would say little joke who cannot digest...Crusaders killed innocent muslims in the first crusade. When the leaders like Salaḥ ad-Dīn ( arab ) Nur-ad-din Zangi ( turk ) came , the other crusades failed and we let them go their country..Not like youv done in the first crusade...
@NuraddinZangi it went both ways must people forget it was the christian kings who gave the profit muhammad refuge against his own people and when the muslims took jersulam from those same christian kings they to slaughtered innocents and when they didnt stop and continued in to eastern and western europespain portigual sisicily and southern italy the muslims to killed many innocent christians so it went both ways war is bad both sides were wrong
@NuraddinZangi the muslims occupied parts europe for over 100 yrs before the 1st crusade look up el cid of spain read pope urban speech at clermont he says in it about stoping further muslim expanction in to christian lands and he speaks of the killing of christians by muslims it went both ways but im sure if forighnors invaded my country and occupied my people for over 100 yrs id want some pay back not saying its right just saying both sides had there faults
Kids should stick to reading books to learn history. The BBC is a joke these days and their educational shows can't be trusted. They can't provide a balanced report of history or anything else because political correctness is more important than facts. It's sad that they even have this agenda for childrens shows.
Actually... The Pope came up with the idea of the 1st Crusade because the military elite of Europe were preoccupied with squabling amongst each other. (& burning Europe to the ground in the process!) So the obvious solution was to send them to war on some other land far FAR away! And since the 'New World' had not as yet been discovered (apart from by the Vikings) the Middle East was the best option! (No coincidence it was also the 'hub' of the trade routes to Asia!
well, I know they are trying to make everything sound so funny and all, but really! The Crusades started because the Greeks needed aid to fight the muslim invasions + Europe needed the Holy Land as a colony of merchandises. Plus, the 1st crusade ( 1:04 ) was not from England, but from France and Italy.
@Strategos300 Crusades were predominately of Norman origin including the Normans from Southern Italy. Normans ruled England so there was a fairly substantial English contingent within the first Crusade.
@ADZ01982 The "English" had nothing to do with it. It is true as you say, that the Nromans ruled England, and they also had a kingdom in Sicily, but these were not client kingdoms, but seperate. France had the leading role of the first.
And most were French, ie Franks. English came later. Ironically after hundreds of years to remove the muslim occupation, Europe is again being taken over by muslims
@pilotfly139 That's what happens withg bacteria. You spend all that time cooking food with bacteria on, and it all goes, but a few minutes later, the food cools to room temperature, and the bacteria comes back. (Although a lot of muslims aren't anywhere near as bad as poisonous bacteria, it's only about 5-10% that are terrorist) Just proving I know.
@pilotfly139 French didnt exist until the French Revolution at least in terms of what we know you had your Gascons your Occitans your Bretons your Flemish your Nomans your Burgundians your well you get the point there wasnt such thing as a Frenchman. Muslims and Eastern Jews call anyone from the west Frank regarless of being English Hispanic German whatver. But is true Franks did "founded" in way of speaking France and especelay Germany. They were english in first crusade aswell.
OK, this video is just stupid. Is the political correctness movemnet now re writing history?
The crusades were started when muslim armies occupied whats now Spain, Italy, and France to about 150 miles of Calis with there convert or die conversions. Eventually the Europeans organized and slowly forced the Muslim occupiers out of France, Italy ect. Spain wasent liberated until the 1500's
@pilotfly139 Umm no! The crusades were officially started after the Pope read a letter from Emperor Alexius Comnenus of Byzantium, he asked the pontiff for a force to help drive the turks back (They had overran Asia minor and were pillaging and mistreating christian native communities there) Pope Urban was moved by the letter and preached about a crusade in the Council of Clermont to help the Byzantines and reconquer the Holy Lands back into christian hands haha
@pilotfly139 This is a show meant for children. So adding those details would make it too complicated for them. This is just to show a simple view on the crusades.
@pilotfly139 You do realise that horrible histories is a primer designed for young children? As such, it is fantastic, but it's like using wikipedia to learn a topic.
u go read a book. this is the first time i hear that the muslims ever conquered or occupied italy. The furthest place the muslims fought was 50 km away from paris and they lost the battle and stayed in iberia.
convert or die? this has never happened. actually, muslims lived peacefully with christians jews in spain under islamic rule. there is an era of time called "the jewish golden age" during the islamic rule. after the reconquista, however, muslims and jews were converted, killed and displaced
Muslims advanced as far North as France , Spain and Portugal.
Not to mention North Africa and the Holy Land, which had always been Christian Lands, (6 centuries before Islam became a 'Faith') & began its conquests.
Jews welcomed Islam, as Christians kept Jews in their rightful place, and Jews feared Christians..they soon collected taxes, funded Muslim war parties and subverted governments, part of why theyve been expelld from 109 Nation States.
This video is so stupid. Don't we all know that Christianity was established in Jerusalem, Northern Africa, and in Europe long before Islam decided to conquer and force their religion down the throats of Christians? That's what Islam does. It's forbidden for a Christian to force religion on someone. Get a grip.
this is idiotic, i hate how the west chooses to ignore the orthodox history and the byzantine empire, why didn't you moron say "the fourth crusade, Christians decided to destroy the most beautiful city of medieval Europe that was christian" why?? why does the west ignore Byzantium?? they talk Paris and London but unless you read a book you never find out about Constantinople, the real metropolis of the middle ages.. DISLIKE!
0:45 I actually thought that a Byzantine named Alexius I appealed to the pope because of the Muslims approaching on Byzantine territory, So the pope ordered the First Crusade?
Not because the pope just, Didn't like the Muslims
@Taffy11000 You are correct, this video is made by morons, Emperor Alexius I wrote a letter for assistance against the Seljuk Turks in asia minor (former byzantine property) he wanted a mercenary professional army not a horde of crusaders, the pope replaced the goal from helping byzantium to conquering the holy land and placed himself as the leader instead of Alexius, things went from bad to worse between crusaders (passing by byzantine territory) and byzantines ever since then.
10 facts about you 1.You are reading this comment 2.You are realizing that this is a stupid fact 4.You didn't notice that i skipped three.5 your checking now 6.Your smilling 7.You are still reading my comment 9.You didn't realize i skipped eight 10.You're checking again and smilling about ho you fell for it again 11.You're enjoying this 12. No offence but i didn't find this funny @ all. These people should show more respect to waht others believe and to the catholic papacy. the crusades were launched to protect parts of the holy land that sacred to catholics. Not bloodthirsty peolple going after Islamic ppl. i don't deny that there was severe bloodshed BUT they had a reason to do so.
@stringprodigy3000 - When what others believe is absolute garbage and not true at all, it does not deserve respect. Respecting other ppl's insane beliefs is what leads to all the religious problems, crusades, etc... Just because we put the word "Religion" in front of the beliefs, does not merit respect. If I believed the flying spaghetti monster rules our lives and plans to destroy all who do not believe in him, would that deserve respect?
@stringprodigy3000 - Simply, anyone can believe whatever they want to, I am all for that, but it does not mean I must respect their beliefs. It is a direct rebuttal to your statement " These people should show more respect to what others believe and to the catholic papacy." I don't agree, just because there may be many people and a big organization that believes something, it does not mean that they are immune from criticism or debate, and does not demand respect.
@stringprodigy3000 Their faith does not justify the resultant bloodshed, and in fact runs counter to many of their faith's teachings. Historical action with religious intent should be treated the same as any other action, not shown 'respect' because of some form of belief. Religion in a historical context does not get a free pass and should be criticized and analyzed fully, attempts to contain it with 'respect' leads to historical revisionism.
@bruce91250 The turks conquered asia minor from byzantium, the byzantine emperor wrote a letter to the pope asking for assistance against the muslim threat to his lands and capital. And the pope ended up changing thegoal from helping byzantium to retaking the holy lands back into christian hands.
It's funny how they always leave out one tiny detail, that it was ISLAM who conquered the Christian held holy land. The first "Crusade" was the Islamic Crusade. Don't forget the other Islamic Crusades into Europe. Constantinople, southern Spain, Sicily, etc.
@LittleVillage24 Yes, but that was just territorial expansion, not a holy war with the sole objective of capturing an area with relifious significance.
Wow, could that guy’s history be more distorted? Painting the Crusaders as conquers of a land which was never there? They were re-conquerors you idiot. The Middle East was the beacon of Christendom years before Islam came to be.
this video explains the horrible things happening during cruzades, and the popes gave those orders beacause of their personal interests, they cared about power.
I'm mexican, but in my languaje I can see words that came from arabic and persian roots, so, at least in a small way, we do speak those languages.
I wouldn't thank the church for years and years of violent fights, blood and ignorance.
How can you tell me that trying to insult me by calling me a jewish is fact and jsutic- ok, I'm sorry, I was expecting to exchange ideas instead of receiving a non-coherent flow of random angry words. I was hoping for something more intelligent. My bad
@Gatitoplz Wrong my friend. The crusades were defensive. The Muslims were murdering the eastern Christians for 600 years and it was at the plea of the eastern Church that the pope finally gave the order to start the crusades. This guy is an idiot who does not know shit about the facts. The goal was not for power but for peace to stop Islamic invasions. You want to know what actually happened at the crusades watch this presentation of people who actually took time to study /watch?v=RLVXRrzm0kc
well of course I get the fact that constantinople asked for help in order to recover the land that once was theirs, but even if the crusades were defensive there was slaughter beyond imagination, crusaders killed pretty much everything crossing their paths, and popes were aiming for their religion to become some sort of state...
I've seen your video, it's nicely done but, may I ask you watch mine?
I know, it fails to explain a lot of things, but it's a parody about the situation lived in that era, and in my personal opinion, none of the cruzades achieved anything
@StSimonMartyr See that's where you;re wrong, the papacy didn't react out of nowhere, byzantine emperor Alexius I wrote to the pope for help against the Seljuk turks in asia minor, and tell me, what was the final result of the crusades? Oh yeah the fourth crusade, soldiers of christ violently sacking and destroying constantinople, a christian city home to the patriach and the byzantine empire, weakening the byzantine empire led the ottomans to cross into europe unopposed.
Muslims advanced as far North as France, Sicily, Spainand Portugal.
They captured and sacked Christian Holy Lands.
Rome DID send Aid to the Byzantines-check your facts. There was No internet, Phone, Fax back then, but help via archers and soldiers did arrive By boat.
The Crusades were a Defensive series of Wars to counter Islam.
Unless you like speaking Arabic, You should THANK the Catholic Curch, you nitwit.
@StSimonMartyr No one said they didn't, and tell me about the fourth crusade you fucking dildo face! Crusaders sacked constantinople, what helpe??? the crusades ended up leaving the bulwark against islam beyond reapir (bulwark being byzantium because after 4th crusade there was no one to stop their advance into europe) so why should i thank??? thank that the most beautiful city of christendom was destroyed? No thank you fuck face! Read a little and you would know more!
Crusades resulted as a reaction of Muslim aggression against the Eastern Roman Empire (Byzantines).
Christian pilgrims to the Holy Lands were persecuted by the Muslims greatly.
1077- 3000 Jews and Christians were murdered by the Muslim invaders in Jerusalem. Rome sent aid when the Orthodox Church & Emperor Constantine XI Paleologus agreed to Rome's 'demands', it netted him 200 archers for his defenses.
@StSimonMartyr Why the fuck do you ignore the fourth crusade??? Do you do it on purpose?? you have no argument, i know the causes i know my history i list the wrongs and 200 archers don;t make up for the destruction and chaos left over from the fourth crusade stupid faggot. Do you even know about the fourth crusade????
4th Crusade had Byzantine prince Alexios Angelos, Philip's brother-in-law and the son of the recently deposed Byzantine emperor Isaac II Angelos, offer $200,000 silver marks, 10,000 men to help the Crusaders, sack Constantinople.
Many deserted the offer, some did not.
These werent Godly men, they were fighters and killers, intent on reclaiming lands that were Ours.
No one excuses the wrongs committed, though Orthodox have their share of pillaging as well, and Schism which divided them.
@StSimonMartyr Help the crusaders sack constantinople? are you out of your mind?? No ruler would want to destroy their own capital not even the lunatic angeloi. I know the pope excommunicated them after the sacking of Zara and I know he was puset after the sacking of Constantinople but just goes to prove the crusades didn't help, they weakened byzantium beyond repair and later the ottomans would enter europe unopposed.
There it clearly outlines that Byzantine Prince Funded the Crusades.
Alexios had recently fled to Philip in 1201, Alexios offered 200,000 silver marks & 10,000 men to help the Crusaders"
A Prince, son of the recently deposed Byzantine emperor Isaac II Angelos who sought to reclaim the throne by paying the Crusaders to Topple Alexios lll.
Youve got alot of reading to do Jackass, to even appear to be literate and educated.
@StSimonMartyr exactly he wanted to topple the emperor, not "help sack" constantinople as you wrote before. And the fuck are you trying to tell me, i know all this, it won;t change the fact constantinople was sacked. In fact it doesn't change a thing, crusades were failures and I cite this book called Lost to The west by Lars Brownworth, not some silly site! OWNED!
I just embarrassed you with truth, facts you had no knowledge of.
The $200,000 silver dollars offerred to the Crusaders by Alexios were not to make friends with the Byzantines and Alexios lll, you idiot. They were hired and paid for one reason: to dDestroy, Sack, Kill and demoralize.
Youre an idiot and spouted off nonsense for 2 days, but no one is in my league.
Ive studied real history for 2 decades, read books youve never heard of.
How have you embarrassed me? Is that why one of my comments is in the top section? If you truly read a lot of books, why quote wikipedia? Alexius offered money to have an army at his back to have a legit claim at the crown, he didn't want to destroy constantinople because his fucking family and dad were there!!!! The plan was, i get crown, i give you money (crazy sum he couldn't come up with) supplies and soldiers and you go happy to egypt (not the holy lands) BOOM OWNED!
@StSimonMartyr And what have you proven? Have you proved your point? I proved that the crusades were failures and wound up weakening Byzantium (the bulwark against Islam in the east), and a little fact, the fourth crusade was intended towards Egypt, not the Holy lands, quit pestering around with google and wikipedia, you clearly read no books because you sound like an idiot! Come on, list some books and cite them! Enough wikipedia faggot! Books and scholars not questionable sites!
Exactly, that's my point. But all the documentaries and discussions about the crusades are always biased. No one hardly discusses what the Muslims had been doing for centuries before the crusades. It's always the "evil" Christians attacking the "peaceful" Muslims for no reason. It's completely an unfair portrayal. Muslims were still attacking Christian lands at the time of the first crusade.
Muslims had been attacking and taking Christian land for centuries, including in Sicily and Spain. The crusades were not unprovoked attacks. The muslims were not innocent and peaceful. No doubt there were other motives behind the crusades as well, but regaining former land and their Holy land was a huge part of it.
Of course evil things happened, but Muslims had done the same.
It's always taught Christians-bad, Muslims-good. It's an unfair representation.
@natenation so, no-one's perfect. eye for an eye leaves everyone blind. christians aren't perfect, neither are the muslims. it's just the muslims don't get away with it.
@natenation then why didnt they do it as the muslims were growing in number? why didnt they stop them when they were weak? because it only became apparent the christians didnt beleive the same as the musslims when they realized the muslims had gold.
what about the all the christians who originally lived there, who were slaughtered and others forcefully converted by the muslims, everyone forgets about them and portrays the crusaders as bad guys, and everyone ignores that the population in the holy land was christian (and jewish), there were no muslims there before the arab invasion, think about it for a second!
@rockermanmatt There were no arabs... in Lebanon, Egipt, Turkey,... before the ancient romans got there. Islam emerged after all that in Arabia, then they moved to these places. That's why the emperor asked the pope for help. That and the turks were kicking their asses in the east.
The Arabs did not attack the Byzantines, The seljuk dynasty of Oghuz Turks began raiding and pillaging eastern Anatolia & invading Armenia in the 1060's , The turks sacked the city of Caesarea & looted the Church of St Basil desecrating the holy relics of st basil , Romanos Diogenes was able beat them back in 1069 only to be attacked again at Manzikert in 1071 ending in a crushing defeat.
2- Europeans didn't start slavery in Africa, it was already there. And there was a huge slave market from there to the northern muslim nations who used them for anything from fisical labour to battle. A practice that continued until recent times. And in some cases it's still there.
@Istojataachatearme first off, they beleived they were taking the word of god to filthy savages. second, just because they got there first does not mean christianity would have done different if they had been in the middle east instead of the muslims, and third, in some christian communities to this day, racism and linching still continue- most obvious example, the "christian knights of the ku klux klan".

@StSimonMartyr
Are you mad lol?
You basically said the Pope told people to go fight for GOD and take Jerusalem but really it was all about keeping Islam away from Rome? WHAT LIES !! I would expect nothing else from Catholicism.
Islam invaded modern Turkey and took Christian Constantinople where was the Pope when Christians needed him? He refused to send soldiers to help. Why? because it got rid of the Eastern Church and now he could claim to be the 1 true church of Christ. DISGRACEFUL!
51wins 2 weeks ago
Wrong, Shillstein
Islam advanced all over Europe, By Force (Spain, Port, Sicily, France), ransacking Christian lands and selling off Christians To Jew Slave Traders.
The Crusades was a Defensive War, you Fool!
Jerusalem and North Africa and Europe had been Christian Lands. OURS! Not theirs. u dont deserve to breathe, Coward.
Rome sent hundreds of soldiers to Aid Constantinople during its siege, but was busy fighting its own wars from Visigoths and other marauders from Northern Europe.
StSimonMartyr 2 weeks ago
@StSimonMartyr
51wins 2 weeks ago
Constantinople Its OWN Entity. They were seperate, apart from and not aligned WITH Rome. By Choice.
If Protestant Norway was attacked, would Catholic Italy come to their aid?
Rome did Send Hundreds of Soliders/Archers to help defend, was also busy fighting its own wars.
Constantinople never helped take part in Romes Crusades and Wars of Defense.
Protest-ants have killed tens of Millions.
They allied with Jewry To Slaughter the Unborn-Abortion, Indians, Chinese, South Africans Boers etc
StSimonMartyr 2 weeks ago
@StSimonMartyr
51wins 2 weeks ago
Constantinople was managed BY Its own! It had no allegiance, pact or agreement with Rome
Rome fought its own defensive wars as well, u idiot.
Rome DID, however, Send in hundreds of Soldiers to help them defend themselves from Marauding Muslims
Do NOT Murder does NOT apply TO Self Defense or TO Protect other Christians facing Slavery & their Own Murder BY Muslims.
Protest-ants killed Millions of Irish Catholics, 53 Million Babies, Invented 1st Concentration Camps (Boers), India, Chinese

51wins 2 weeks ago
We warred with Poland to Create World Govt (UN), IsraHell. and Spread Communism TO 11 nations.
60 Million died in WW2 over a Border skirmish between Poland and Germany.
U said, It had 'Nothing To Do with the UK' and Youre right. No sense in that needless war.
Rome Sent Troops and Hundreds of Archers when word was released of the siege.
But Just as Constantinople never took part in the Defensive Christian wars against Islam with Rome, Rome was under no obligation to war at Constaninople.
StSimonMartyr 2 weeks ago
@StSimonMartyr

@StSimonMartyr the byzantines occupied north africa and oppressed egyptians. the islamic invasion was liberation to them, they welcomed the muslims and they converted freely. now egypt has 10% orthodox christian population.
the muslims also lived peacefully with christians andjews in spain. after the reconquista, muslims and jews were forced to convert or leave. jews left to live with muslims in north africa.
muslims have always lived peacefully with minorities.
aymansomara 4 days ago
North Africa was never Occupied by Byzantines. It was a Roman 'colony' and Rome ceased to exist, It fell into a vaccum, and the inhabitants converted by peaceful means, Islam spread its Faith By the sword and force (for all intents and purposes) to those and other regions. There were battles and massacres evidencing this fact(s)
Muslims and peave are antithetical.
The word slave comes From SLAV, White Christian Europeans captured By Muslims and sold to Jews who ran the Slave trade.
StSimonMartyr 4 days ago
@StSimonMartyr Let's take egypt as an example. Now in Egypt 10% of the population is orthodox christians. In their recorded history, they thank the muslims of liberating them from Roman oppression. They don't accuse muslims of forcing them to convert. They lived and still live with muslims peacefully. They built most of their churches after islamic rule because catholics oppressed them.
aymansomara 4 days ago
@StSimonMartyr On the contrary, spain is an example of how christians treat other religions under their rule. Muslims didn't oppress christians and jews in Al Andalus, actually sometimes the muslims caliphate had jewish and christian ministers. After the reconquista, jews and muslims were converted or displaced. do you deny this?
aymansomara 4 days ago
They were displaced as they had Subverted the government, the institutions, the Tax authority, and were outwardly professing to be Christian, but were in reality, Talmudic Jews or Crypto Marrano, hiding amongst the mask of Christianity or Islam.

Sicily was taken by Conquest by Muslims.
Muslims advanced as far North as France , Spain and Portugal.
Not to mention North Africa and the Holy Land, which had always been Christian Lands, (6 centuries before Islam became a 'Faith') & began its conquests.
Jews welcomed Islam, as Christians kept Jews in their rightful place, and Jews feared Christians..they soon collected taxes, funded Muslim war parties and subverted governments, part of why theyve been expelld from 109 Nation States.

stringprodigy3000 2 months ago
@stringprodigy3000 - When what others believe is absolute garbage and not true at all, it does not deserve respect. Respecting other ppl's insane beliefs is what leads to all the religious problems, crusades, etc... Just because we put the word "Religion" in front of the beliefs, does not merit respect. If I believed the flying spaghetti monster rules our lives and plans to destroy all who do not believe in him, would that deserve respect?
paulcorda 1 month ago
@paulcorda what are you trying to say??
stringprodigy3000 1 month ago
@stringprodigy3000 - Simply, anyone can believe whatever they want to, I am all for that, but it does not mean I must respect their beliefs. It is a direct rebuttal to your statement " These people should show more respect to what others believe and to the catholic papacy." I don't agree, just because there may be many people and a big organization that believes something, it does not mean that they are immune from criticism or debate, and does not demand respect.
paulcorda 1 month ago
@stringprodigy3000 Their faith does not justify the resultant bloodshed, and in fact runs counter to many of their faith's teachings. Historical action with religious intent should be treated the same as any other action, not shown 'respect' because of some form of belief. Religion in a historical context does not get a free pass and should be criticized and analyzed fully, attempts to contain it with 'respect' leads to historical revisionism.

Go away, Moishe.

Justinian43 1 month ago
@StSimonMartyr And what have you proven? Have you proved your point? I proved that the crusades were failures and wound up weakening Byzantium (the bulwark against Islam in the east), and a little fact, the fourth crusade was intended towards Egypt, not the Holy lands, quit pestering around with google and wikipedia, you clearly read no books because you sound like an idiot! Come on, list some books and cite them! Enough wikipedia faggot! Books and scholars not questionable sites!

Shit 4 Brains,
Wikipedia under heading 'Fourth Crusade.'
It clearly outlines that X Byzantine Prince Funded the Crusades.
Alexios had recently fled to Philip in 1201, Alexios offered 200,000 silver marks & 10,000 men to help the Crusaders"
A Prince, son of the recently Deposed Byzantine emperor Isaac II Angelos, sought to reclaim the throne by paying the Crusaders to Topple Alexios lll.
Youve got alot of reading to do Jackass, to even appear to be literate and educated.

@CrusaderGER I don't get your comment.

Muslims were still attacking Christian lands at the time of the first crusade.
natenation 2 months ago
Muslims had been attacking and taking Christian land for centuries, including in Sicily and Spain. The crusades were not unprovoked attacks. The muslims were not innocent and peaceful. No doubt there were other motives behind the crusades as well, but regaining former land and their Holy land was a huge part of it.
Of course evil things happened, but Muslims had done the same.
It's always taught Christians-bad, Muslims-good. It's an unfair representation.
natenation 2 months ago
@natenation so, no-one's perfect. eye for an eye leaves everyone blind. christians aren't perfect, neither are the muslims. it's just the muslims don't get away with it.
trandomphatguy 2 months ago
Way to distort history you fools. It was much more complex than that.
Christians were there before Muslims. Christians wanted to regain their Holy land.
natenation 2 months ago
@natenation then why didnt they do it as the muslims were growing in number? why didnt they stop them when they were weak? because it only became apparent the christians didnt beleive the same as the musslims when they realized the muslims had gold.
trandomphatguy 2 months ago
@rockermanmatt
Your both fucking wrong
Obasiliasfilosofos 2 months ago
what about the all the christians who originally lived there, who were slaughtered and others forcefully converted by the muslims, everyone forgets about them and portrays the crusaders as bad guys, and everyone ignores that the population in the holy land was christian (and jewish), there were no muslims there before the arab invasion, think about it for a second!
Haydutin 2 months ago
@rockermanmatt There were no arabs... in Lebanon, Egipt, Turkey,... before the ancient romans got there. Islam emerged after all that in Arabia, then they moved to these places. That's why the emperor asked the pope for help. That and the turks were kicking their asses in the east.
Istojataachatearme 2 months ago
This report is a bit biased no? The wars started with arabs invading bizantine territory, and they kept it in the end...
Istojataachatearme 2 months ago
@Istojataachatearme
Obasiliasfilosofos 2 months ago
The BBC Horrible Histories should not even dare to make satirical "skits" of such a complex controversial topic as the crusades.
Obasiliasfilosofos 2 months ago
@Istojataachatearme and that's not similar to how the christians invaded africa and started using the natives as slaves?
trandomphatguy 2 months ago
@trandomphatguy 1-That's got nothing to do with religion.
2- Europeans didn't start slavery in Africa, it was already there. And there was a huge slave market from there to the northern muslim nations who used them for anything from fisical labour to battle. A practice that continued until recent times. And in some cases it's still there.
Istojataachatearme 2 months ago
@Istojataachatearme first off, they beleived they were taking the word of god to filthy savages. second, just because they got there first does not mean christianity would have done different if they had been in the middle east instead of the muslims, and third, in some christian communities to this day, racism and linching still continue- most obvious example, the "christian knights of the ku klux klan".
trandomphatguy 2 months ago
@trandomphatguy True, the point of this all is?
