  • I actually really like your voice. I'm not sure where exactly you are from, but it's calming. The likes obviously outweigh the dislikes, there's too much negativity in this world. Why ruin Tolkien with rude comments? You are just showing a piece of literature that you love :)

  • That's awesome! I'm working on learning Sindarin right now. XD

  • It needs some sorta of song afterward. :-)

  • Well told, Lady.

  • Very nice voice ;)

  • she would pass for any elf well at least a sindar elf

  • @irkenempress i think your pronunciation is very good because it sounds like a song, it makes me think of tolkien himself reciting namarië.

you are one of the better ones speaking elvish on youtube :)

  • commovente

  • Ignore lumpa1987! He's just jealous of your talent.... Good voice! And I adore your pronunciation! I think you'd pass for either Arwen or Galadriel IMHO.

  • Omg i Cannot stop listening to this :) You recite this with such perfect pacing. Well done.

  • very kool!love Elvish you sounded awesome!very nice =)

  • its very hard to learn Sindarin because its language was never finished only little is known and left by Tolkien.

  • That was beautiful

  • How does the song calls that your using? :$

  • I wish I could speak elvish ... I really do want to ... I jsut don't have the time atm ... :(

  • Your voice is like, magic... I don't know how to explain

But the way that you speak fits perfect with the text... :3

Just beautiful! And what the others says, could you giff the Sindarin text?

  • This is so beautifull, well done

Do you have the Elvish lyrics?

  • Can you write the sindarin text?? :)

  • its wonderfull..........namarie!

  • I am learning Sindarin :D

the only thing that I remember and I know to say is: le Suilannon. Man le estar? Nin estar Sven.

and if Sindarin is nerdy I don't give a shit because I am enjoying that language

  • This gave me goosebumps. I love it!

  • Hey! Very good pronunciation! I love the fact that you took the time to get it right!

  • Can you recite Galadriel's farewell in Quenya next? Good video, I will be subscribing

  • Beautiful voice ;)

  • @lumpa1987 i reckon you just wasted 45 seconds of your life watching this video if all you do is bitch about my ability to recite poetry not to mention the poem itself. congratulations,im sure the thrill of typing a pointless opinion is riveting.

  • @lumpa1987 lol,in case you havent noticed im not seeking praise constantly,i posted this video for the purpose of receiving feedback,as in constructive criticism;a concept you obviously dont understand. now if you want to talk to me about quality,i implore you to make your own video so that the youtube community can tell you what they think of you.

  • @irkenempress Yeah, well you received my feedback, one in many others. You just have a sour ass because you don't like criticism obviously. As of a constructive criticism, i said in my first message that you should learn how to read regular poetry first, and train on your horrible tone of voice. I think that definetely a constructive criticism, i'm telling you what to improve, as i do listen to poetry often.

I see i hurted your feeelings but you choosed to put your video on youtube, once again.

  • @lumpa1987 writing an essay in order to convey your superiority?well congrats, you have successfully wasted yet another portion of your time. well im happy to be the bigger person here,so i wont be engaging you in trivial bickering because, unlike you it seems,i have a busy schedule.

  • @irkenempress First you want people to comment and make constructive criticism, and now you're saying that people arguing are just wasting their time. You're just a sour ass, saying something and its opposite.

I'm not "writing" to "convey my superiority", i'm commentating your videos as you wanted to in the first place. But then you're like "hey, if you don't like it, this is a pointless opinion". So, do you "waste your time" chasing away every people who don't like your rubbish recital? Stupid

  • @lumpa1987 Haha, objectively bad? I like how you say it's just your opinion and then you go and say it is bad in the objectival sense, as if your judgement is the only sound one. Pompous motherfucker.

  • @lumpa1987 no you just have to act like a dumbass

  • @lumpa1987 Yeah, you haven't looked at the likes and dislikes rating...

  • @irkenempress i thought you sounded great...

  • @irkenempress trolls....

  • @irkenempress you have a beautiful voice. don't let him ruin this for you by making you speak harshly.

  • @irkenempress you read this beautifully, perfect choice of music, and the elvish at the start makes it work all the better.

  • @lumpa1987 Remember as King Richard Figures once quoth, "Man, you's a bitch!" XD

  • @lumpa1987 Wow. Jerk! Give her a break! She's got a good voice and good pronunciation! What the heck?!

  • @lumpa1987 theres nothing wrong with the way she recites it

  • @lumpa1987 Srsly, you this is good reading -not emotionally charged, acknowledged, but it conveys a different meaning altogether. Theoretically, her dead-tone that you felt was horrible could have been used also to convey that weary, exhausted voice of Middle Earth, etc. :P

  • @Altaront She got an annoying and depressing tone of voice, this is irritating. And when she speaks english, you can really notice she has a very bad diction, chewing words, with awful intonations. So even if her dying horse voice conveys a "weary, exhausted voice of Middle Earth", it pretty much would be a fucking insult to the books. And i maintain this is fucking horrible.

  • @lumpa1987

I'm not an expert poem reader, so I wouldn't really know what's good and what's bad, but your comment was pretty harsh and rude. There's a line between trolling, and constructive criticism, and I would say your comment is more along the side of trolling. You offended her and obviously pissed her off by calling her tone of voice horrible, without offering much reasoning as to why. Coulda handled it better.

But this was a year ago, so I don't even know why I'm writing this.

  • I love this riddle, it's amazing. It's nice to hear it in elven, adds a bit of gravitas!

  • Pân i valt law thilia,

    Law pain i reviar mistar aen;

    Iaur i vell law thinnatha,

Law thynd dyfn na-niss rathar aen.

    O lith naur echuiathar aen,

    Calad od dúath thuiatha;

    Adamminen i vagol vreithannen,

    Pen-thôl ad echannen i aran.

  • It's not bad, but there are some weak points in your pronounciation...

y is pronounced like german ö/dutch eu, and not like english 'ay' in 'thynd dyfn'

also ch is like german/dutch ch, not like 'sh' in 'echannen'

sindarin is really consistent in it's spelling: i in 'thilia' is : thee-lee-ya, not thay-lee-ya, and 'thinnatha' is : theen-na-tha, not thayn-na-tha

the irish/english way of pronouncing words is very present in your sindarin speaking... try to work on that :)

  • @Lamantyn ok, i made a mistake myself ^^: y is pronounced like german ü, or like the u in french 'la lune' , so if the y is distracting, you can imagine it says 'thünd düfn', instead of 'thynd dyfn'.

I think this is a difficult one, since even many actors in the movies pronounce y like i, e.g. : emin muil, instead of emyn muil.

  • Well spoken, excellent ennunciation.

  • halle ciryar ar halle arani nelde lur nelde, man tuncet atalantello or i ulea ear? otso eleni ar otso ondor ar mine ninque alda.

  • <<<<<<<<<<3 WOOT! this is awesome.....i'm working on my elvish.....slowly but surely.....mainly slowly because i'm slack but still i'm getting there!

  • Maybe dentalize your d and t? Just a suggestion.

  • c est beau petite elfes

  • i found this verse in one of my school reading/ language arts books.

  • @irkenempress, the 'i's are pronounced like 'ee' not 'eye'. so pan ee valt law theeleea, law pain ee reveear meestar aen...etc. That's the only thing though.

  • How do you teach yourself elvish?

  • Thank you for this upload! I do not speak Elvish, but must say that your voice and those words are inspiration to me...they keep my Tolkin spirit alive. Great intonation, both English and Sindarin! I am looking foreward to your next upload :-)

  • Is this your own translation? It doesn't seem to match any other translation I have seen, or even the one in the previous comment.

  • Whoa, that was sick, how long did it take you to learn elvish?

  • where did you learn elvish? you're great!

  • totally agree with Xeviana, i wish more people will learn sindarin so we can build a larger community around the world of elvish speakers!! I'd recomend a pdf called pedhin edhellen, which you can find by googling sindarin course, its the first link that appears

  • hi yama presta me amatha no hy aha nosto net

But i might start again later, then this will be at use.

    Thanks mellon :D

  • OMG, your a total natural at Elvish, where did you learn???

This is completly amazing. i love the use of the song, although i cant remember which one it is. Is it the breaking of the fellowship???

    Abolutly love this. xx

  • i g have a question has quenya has anything to do with sindarin?

  • uhh, they're both just elvish languages mate. I think, not fully sure but i think it's Sindarin, which is based on the Welsh langauge and Quenya more greekish. But meh i'll soon be put wrong by some lotr lore freak :P

  • You rang? Lotr and general freak at your service ;) gfg tea bag vidio too ...mother fuckin funny shit(xcuse my fenchism)

  • Quenya is the most advanced speech in existance and sindarin is simply mixed with every elvish and many other languages-a mixture that is in the end elegant enough.Ive made three elaborate attempts to tell u this with more but it wont let me!Frak boundries

  • They both originated from a common root language "Common Eldarin" , which was spoken by the elves who set out on the "Great Journey" to the land of the Valar. Quenya developed in Aman and was much influenced by the language of the Valar - hence it is considered a "higher" or more noble language than Sindaran, which was the language which developed among the elves who started out on the Great Journey, but which remained behind in Middle Earth. Sindarin became the common tongue of Middle Earth.

  • Also possibly surname Warnke..

  • They do not treat me well & I am a higher Queen. Know thus..

  • Surnames of Mccormick & Gust unto Elizabethian is crucial to you!

  • Also see if you can find any of Clark of Louis & Clark the British explores who were part of the establishment of America. Look for links to William mostly of England's throne...try the American Surname Gust. You will find some Mary. Check against King Charles lines. I can't tell you what enemies I have in my immediate family...

  • Trace your family unto the surname Mccormick of the Spice company. Our link to the Elizabethian that holds us all down.

  • I honor you but I am willing to bet our mortal family is horrid unto us both.

  • You are not really my type & you bear great qualities. At times you are most handsome. I just fear this is not a couplehood & I am falling fast. I seek powers of lighter & darker magnitude. I think you remarkable but I don't want to go there. You will have a lovely bride if not by now. I wish you the best really I do. Yes you are handsome but higher loves call us both. I was just a child that admired you....you were just a male role model..ok?

  • Dear Ranger I love your way with Equine. I am sorry for I weep because England's conflict & my families has taken me from my horses. To a point I can not return to that love. I know I go in ways dark & appear to have deserted you but such is not the reality of it all. We remain but I sense some of our joint blood is out of line or enemy sanction. We have that everywhere its not isolated unto us. Seek the potions master Severus Snape find his admirations & reasons for putting me on the spot!

  • each book at the end has the words, letters and proper pronunciation. if one is truly into it, they can learn it. Very well done in this video :D the sindarin is a bit tougher for me than the qwenya :)

  • how did u learn to pronounce it? i wish to learn this too!

  • Great! How do you lern it :O

  • nice (check that stupid American above this list wahah)

  • very well done! yes Bilbo Baggins did write it, but is has been translated (or he may have written it in Sindarin, as in the Third Age Sindarin has become a sort of Lingua Franca for all the educated peoples of Middle Earth)

  • just search for sindarin on wikipedia, there is a link to an english course (free downloadable pdf file) .... and always remember "I will use google myself before askind stupid Questions"

  • everyone talks about downloading a file or a course, but no one gives the url. Please. An address or web site for the computer lazy/dysfunctional/etc.

  • Still it sounds a bit like quenya. Isn't sindarin more soft?

  • I'm really impressed

  • Didn't Bilbo Baggins write that poem?

  • suena bonito el elfico, es sindarin, noldorin, quenya?

  • sindarin

  • Beautiful!

  • Really cool. How long did it take to learn?

  • Beautiful poetry ! ps , found this online and copied / pasted below ... 'All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost;

The old that is strong does not wither,

Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

    From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring;

Renewed shall be blade that was broken,

The crownless again shall be king'

  • I must ask. Are you just reading a sindarin text or can you actually speak the language? If so, where/how did you learn it

  • OMG, this is awesomeee!!!! where did u learn? I study modern languages and I'm doing my thesis about Sindarin, I need a lot of information and help :( do u know where can I find something?

  • you load down a course it's about 150 pages

with all the grammar and phrases

you just type in sindarin at google and than download the course

  • nice voice! this language is soo....sexy!

  • Oh. My. Gosh. This. Is. AMAZING. I wish I could speak Elvish like that! Your pronunciation is great. I have read the books and seen the movies, not to mention tried to read a book on Elvish grammar, but I just can't seem to learn.

  • OMG! Keep microphone away from mouth!! :3

  • WOW! That's awesome!

This is one of my favorite LOTR poems. Where did you learn the Sindarin for this?

  • I was about to say something really deep here, but I just lost my trail of thought. Ah well.

  • I think Quenyan is the more elegant of the two Elven languages. Both are incredibly beautiful, though. Tolkien was one of the most talented wordsmiths of the millenium.

  • he is so cool

  • Dianne, How didnt I find this vid of yours before...10'000 views, geez...thats something...Oh how the mighty fall ^^ Hmm...Good accent ;/ At first I thought it was an audio file from the movie.

  • Great..

why don't you people always cut it so mercilesly...

let sound and fade out in the end .. haven't they taught U anything at the filmschool :D

  • Very good. I love this language, Quenya too.

  • You guys should all seriously attempt to learn Elvish, Sindarin, it would be awesome if a bigger population could speak it, it's not hard guys just go on google and you can find help to learn it!

    Good luck all =]

  • I started to learn some words and phrases and all, but oh...It doesn't seem so easy (especially with the help of only a zip folder). Especially that I totally don't know anybody speaking it near, also I learn English at intermediate and beginner Italian, so yep...Not easy to just learn something in plus just for fun :(. But oh, well, I guess I just have to look for an other learner here, and we can courage each other, haha.

  • Yeah! encourage each other here xD

d.w you can do it!! xDDD

I only got a zip folder too, and a few website links, that i revise over and stuff, just to get slightly more fluential with it xD

  • There's a book you can buy which might help: "A Gateway to Sindarin" by David Salo. you can also preview it on google books. Most of the book is on there :)

  • Thank you really much! It really was a help I think!

  • you're welcome and good luck :)

  • @Xeviana I'm actually trying to learn Sindarin right now. (Does that make me a nerd?) Oh, even though I highly doubt that a professor from Duke is reading this, but thanks to the Profssor who had the files on How to learn Elvish!

  • @Xeviana have you found a good site/course that teaches it well? (and have you actually learned it?)

i myself really want to, so any sites you haev found woul be greatly appreciated.

  • @Xeviana I thought about learning it once, but then I figured if ur gonna spend that much time learning a language like elvish or clingon, why not learn one used by a people of a country here and now. И поэтому я выбрал один.

  • Where can we find the lyrics of the poem (in sindarin)? Can you post it?

  • o-o WOW this is crazy people !

  • pretty good i wish i could speak elvish

  • nice

  • nice :X

  • bravo! very impressive!

  • grat work i like it

  • Nice:)

  • That was beautiful! But that's not your natural English accent, is it? (=

  • Comment removed

  • Very good! Nice! =D

  • Cool.

  • Lo disfruto muchísimo!!! THANK YOU !!!oda

  • Pân i valt law thilia.. Beautiful. And sounded very natural.

But the pronunciation was not quite correct.

Thilia (to glitter) is pronounced `thiilia´ as in machIne. Not as in fIght.

  • irkenempress Elven-tongue! May thy tones long honor the once crownless...

[I suggest you pause more, let the words sink in, take your time.]

    It is quite elven-ly sweet.

  • Don't learn Sindarin only the grey elves speak that they haven't seen the light.... You should speak Quenya it is the tongue of the High Elves.

  • Sindarin was the spoken language of the Elves in Middle-Earth, Quenya was used by the Elves of Valinor.

The Quenya used in Middle-earth of the Third Age (the time of the setting of The Lord of the Rings) had come to be a scholarly pursuit—something akin to Latin in our time (indeed, Tolkien occasionally refers to Quenya as "Elven-Latin".)

Galadriel is basically the only one who speaks Quenya as a first langauge, as she was born in Valinor.

  • Yeah, but Quenya is so much prettier!

  • That sounded simalr to welsh in some parts and i tihnk i too will learn sindarian

  • Tolkien actually based the phonology of Sindarin on Welsh. :)

  • It sounds nice but you made some mistakes with the stress in some words and the pronunciation of the word 'echannen' :)

    But I liked it :D

  • Beautiful!

Where did you get the words?

  • Although I prefer Sindarin, the pronounciation is really awesome! As Tolkien had thought of Sindarin pronounced like Welsh and generally like Celtic languages, your pronounciation seems to come very naturally, I love it.

  • Isnt that the poem Bilbo made for Aragorn? Is the original in Sindarin or you translated it?Please respond =)

  • Beautiful. An echo of the Music of the Ainur resonates in your voice :)

  • You have the most lovely speeking voice, and your obvious atempt in Sindarin is wonderful. It really is a beautiful language. You must make more.

    Vincent.

  • how do you do that so well? do you know the language, or just read it?

  • well,i cant speak the language fluently, but i have learned a lot of poems, phrases etc..im still learning everyday and i think it is a wonderful language,so between that and irish i actaully find this easier to learn!

  • so where does one learn it other than mimic what was in the books?

    cvr-nut

  • I would recommend Sindarin poems by Ryszard Durdzinsky for starters. Also, you can google up useful Sindarin phrases and Sindarin poetry, and you will find some hopefully useful items.

    Hope this helps some. Namárié.

  • That was...beautiful!! *gets teary eyed* Maybe say it slower... Where did you learn it? I've been trying to find online lessons (I'm guessing that's how you learned?)but I can't.

  • yes it is beautiful, for a language that is quite strange to find.

  • Laer lín matha faeren!

  • hannon le!^_^

  • aw thanks!^_^

with any luck i would have sindarin as my third language i think!

  • i need to know is Sindarin different than Quenya?...as i am about to get down and study Quenya hard....so i should like to know.

and elvish in general is the most beautiful.

i'm in love with the language

    :)

  • its good that you take an intrest in elvish my friend!yes sindarin is most commonly known as the language of the wood elves, whereas quenya is of the high elves.bothy dialects are beautiful, but i would be more partial to sindarin as ifind easier to pronounce :)

  • Yes, that is how I feel towards Sindarin. There is a free course in Sindarin .. google for 'Pedin Edhellen'

  • I think i'll do Quenyan, then Sindarin. Then ill even start to write in Elvish script! I am sure there is a name for the script..i have passed by it before...just cannot recall.

    Thank you both

  • The "Elvish script" is called the tengwar.

Elvish can also be written using the cirth, which look like Germanic runes.

Quenya can also be written using the sarati, upon which, the legendarium states, the tengwar is based.

  • Oh, this is utterly beautiful! Sounds as though Sindarin was your native tongue!

Much more natural than Liv Tyler does it.
