The British are a rigid nation - when people say they don't like something, they NEVER change their perception of it. The tragedy of Eldorado is not only that it had improved in quality in the final months, not even that people were tuning in, in their millions... but that NOBODY admitted to watching it and NOBODY ever supported it.
I watched Eldorado a few occasions when I was a child.
I wonder how things could have been if Eldorado carried on. I was suprised it was axed with big viewing figures. I last saw it on UK Gold around 2002. I saw the final Eldorado at The National Media Museum in Bradford and I got the video "Adios Eldorado".
Jesse Birdsall (Marcus Tandy) is Married to Gwyneth Strong who played Cassandra Rodney's wife in Only Fools and Horses.
Fair do's..it was poor when it started..then Corrine Hollingsworth took over as producer got rid of the deadwood and introduced new characters and improved the production quality and it was really good..it was getting 9-10 million viewers when it was axed ..they should have given it a bit longer to see how it fared...I was active in the 'save Eldorado' campaign..to no avail :(
Eldorado had actually improved an awful lot since it started,as for the ratings it was getting over 10million viwers towards the end and Emmerdale now only gets about 7million yet programmes like Emmerdale still go on and on and on.
I liked Eldorado,it was sunny, hot and took me away from the cold weather in the winter.
@arcadian78 You are exactly right, by the end it was pulling in 10m viewers which in this day and age would be brilliant and also by the end it was getting quite good once they got rid of the dead wood from when it first started and got in some half decent actors. Such a shame they didnt stick with a while longer, also i liked the theme music lol.
@TRIGMASTER06 I've never forgiven that nitwit Yentob for taking the descision to axe Eldorado,it was completely political anyway,he only axed it because it was commisioned by his predecessor,Yentob was just bitter because it was starting to actually work and pull in the ratings.
Wish I had bought the Adios Eldorado video when it was available.

If this had been given the go ahead for another year it would still be on air now.
The bbc spent all that money on the set and then axed it due to pressure from the press. Idiots!
By the end it had turned a corner and was brilliant.

This is always used as an example of terrible TV, but it was a whole lot better than 85% of the stuff the UK has produced since...
