  • Your videos are some of the most informative firearm videos on the net. Most people just shot off shooting their guns but you take the time to get right down to the nitty gritty and do things like this that no one else does so Kudos to you Mr. Hickok45.

  • with modification, can you shoot the vz withoud the dust cover, like the ak can?

  • @ringenburg2 It is an SGL21 Arsenal convert. But its made in Ishmash.

  • i like the vz becaise i think it is more stable when you fire it on semi or auto. although it jammed on me 0.0

  • the stick is made so u can tuck your elbow all the way in when firing the gun...

  • What brand is that black AK-47? I'm looking for one and I'm not sure which company to go with to get an AK-47 variant?

Thanks! Anyone is free to help me on this but @hickok45 you could probably help a little more.

  • Regardless of the bolt hold back on empty. I like the ak mag release better. You can slap the mag with a mag to release and have fast reload

  • If its stamped, then its technically akm.

  • I would rather go ak platform...it has More of a market for parts since vz58 isnt interchangable and likely harder to find parts for it. Good stuff! I was thinking of getting a vz58, but im glad i didnt. I own both arsenal sgl 21 and 31. Best investment ive ever made!

  • hickok you really need to invest in a wood furniture AK. its just not the same without the wood ;(

  • 7:58 HAPPENS TO ME ALL THE TIME!!! bloody women!!!!!

  • Man, I remember when serving in Czech Army in 1994-1995, how terrible it was to press and pull this pin in winter with frozen fingers... And polishing that aluminum bolt ... man, neverending story... There were also time limits to put it all together and dismantling - like 20 secs to put it all together and 5 secs to dismantle... So you have a lot to practice, Hickok45! ;-)

  • I am looking to buy a AK-47 but I am also interested in the VZ58. I have found a VZ58 for $829.00 and have found a 1960 polish milled AK-47 for $699.00. I have fired AK-47s before but have never played around with the VZ58. So my question to you since this will be my first AK purchase which one would you recommend? For the prices I have listed? Looking to buy in the next week or so.

  • If an AK and a SKS porked..... the VZ58 would be the end result lol.

  • The differences between the 2 guns is why Canadians can own the '58 but not the AK. AK47's and all variants are prohibited weapons here. Czech rifles are ok though, silly liberal lawmakers.

  • @jabagryz, Sorry, guess if I played video games more often, I'd know what guns I have. It's an AK-47

  • @hickok45 Hm, isn`t it AKM? Modernizated AK-47?

  • @hickok45 this weapon more looks like ak 74

  • @jabagryz The 47 and the 74 look essentially identical. This one is chambered in 7,62x39, as one can clearly see by the shape of the magazine. It's a 47. The 74 is chambered in 5.45x39 and the magazine is curved at a different angle.

  • @jabagryz you fail...he said in his other video arsenal uses a 74 muzzle break on their sgl-21

  • @jabagryz

lmfao. you really think this guy doesnt know what weapons he owns? and what they are? wow.

  • @jabagryz Umm thats pretty clearly an AK chambered for 7.62x39...not 5.45

  • @hickok45, I apologize if I made a mistake. I was just trying to be helpful. Did you delete my other comments or something?

  • @BSmithCharles, No comments are ever deleted, as per my radio show explanation; they've just not been officially approved yet. :-) I have no idea about your comments; I sometimes just delete a whole string of comments if there's some crazy argument with insane language and such. I'm sure some sensible comments end up "not getting approved" in that process. :-)

  • my last post here... i promise :-)...if you have problem extracting the magarine grab the mag with your left hand and use your left thumb to press on release

  • BTW great videos....keep them coming :-) maybe you could do comparison between VZ. 58 and SKS ?

  • and probably easiest explanation of difference between those two guns is: AK is a cheap rifle using cut down rifle rounds and Vzor (Model) 58 is a Large SMG made for AK rounds

  • the main reason for the Vzor (model) 58 slide lock was...so shooter could load magazine in the gun using stripper clip (similar to the SKS) and basically using ammo from orhers almost empty magazines. It was called last stand situation

  • Hi Hickok45,PM sent about the "PD" question I posted.

A public question, and I searched all the commits and didn't find anything on muzzle brakes.I've owned several AKs,starting with the 79th Polytech to come in the country through Keng's Firearms in ATL.I've never shot a Vz-58 but wanted one since I saw it when the FMJ movie came out and the VC girl "sniper" had one.Does it have a threaded muzzle? Does it need a brake? I like MBs on my AKs,just my preference.Keep Up The Fire!

  • I'd like to see something on the SKS.

  • @1324jeb, I've done them.

  • I liked whole video except the part where you used a hummer to tap that pin on the AK.

  • Using a beater on a borrowed gun,LOL!!

  • @gangster88323 vz is a goid rifle but it is no where in the league of an AK! How can you say its more accurate? I have AK's in 762x39, 545x39, 308, and 556 and i'll tell you this the 556 and 545 can hit human targets out to 400 yards for me and others do 550... With the 308 well I havnt even taken it to the limit yet but 500 yards is easy! There are many ak's that arent chambered in 762x39. But I do want a vz58 just to have it and a galil too,

  • That's the good thing about the AK design that makes it so reliable .. the gas system is so powerful it pretty much blows through any debris that may be int he gun .

  • You've raised a few questions about the Vz.58 in your video.

The mag release is supposed to be operated by the shooter's left thumb while the rest of the hand pushes the mag forward and out. It's not ambidextrous. The ridge on the back of the magazine houses the follower stud that engages the bolt hold-open device. The original Vz. 58 actually has a threaded muzzle with a spring pin to lock a muzzle device in place (also a bayonet mount on the bottom of the front sight base).

  • The VZ-58 in general is a lot lighter than the AK, being about 8lbs loaded.

The ridge on the back of the magazine is where the follower hits the bolt hold open.

  • Hey hickok, i'm look at getting an AK soon, Arsenal is kind of out of my budget. What do you think about the CENTURY ARMS GOLANI SPORTER 223 2-35RN? From what i read its a mix between the AK47 & M16. If you can i'd like to see a comparison between it and the AK, i've heard Century Arms is not generally a good company, but have read good things about that gun itself. The thing that attracts me to the AK is the durability, to be able to bury it and shoot. I'd like to know if that gun can too.

  • SA vz.58 Czech made assult rifle is the world's most reliable gun that fires the 7.62x39 cartrige. Extremely easy to take appart and maintain. The reason why the AK47 is more popular, is because during the Soviet era the Czechs were not allowed to export guns that surpassed the soviet rifles in every way. These guns don't jam even if extremely dirty, and are far more accurate then AK's.

    Great video Hickock :)

  • What a fantastic video! Thank You.

  • The Vz-58 look's more like it's an ease of maintence

  • If I buy a Mak-90 and get rid of that horrible stock will I really get into trouble? Because I have no intention of changing anything but the stock.

  • @Wofka1986, right. Whatever you say.

  • @hickok45 hey hickock "this is not an ak-47" haha..can u believe this guy?

  • @hickok45 JD-D/RBPD/CAPD???

  • @Wofka1986 Wow....

  • I love my VZ it is extremely accurate and fun to shoot.

  • thank you for getting the country of origin right

  • and the only interchangeable part in those guns is probably the cartridge they fire :P

  • what's awkward in a kalashnikov style safety? :P

  • Hey Hickok, I have a vz58 with a 7.5" barrel up here in Canada ... I absolutely love it! Wanted to let you know that a better technique for removing the mag is to grab high on the mag with your left hand and use your left hand thumb to hit the mag release, you can rip the mag one handed that way

  • VZ.58 is capable of 800RPM!

  • @DinoHunter2 We'll fix everything up soon enough...

  • The VZ58, I like it! Weren't they 1st chambered in 7.62x45 Czech? But the USSR made them chamber the 7.62x39? Either way, I like both designs, AK & VZ, better than the ARs. ARs are just too expensive. It's good that the AR got rid of their little gas tube. The AR push rod system is way better.

  • @xbones101 Actually, I think that is one of many cartidges suggested for the VZ 58, the 7.62x51mm NATO was another, but those were right out of the question with Soviet bayonets at your back. I don't think any 7.62mm Czech ammo or weapons survived the Soviet occupation.

  • Hahaha. My grandpa had such great difficulty putting his Ruger Mark III back together that he needed to go to a local gun shop to do it. Those things are a pain to put together without help - my peace-loving (well, relatively speaking) dad is the only person I know who can assemble them without help.

  • His mind is slipping: 1:22

"Pull the bolt back, push the *gibberish*, and hold the bolt back"

  • Comment removed

  • Lol "I'll probably use that If I need to on this borrowed gun... I wouldn't wanna use it on my own gun." HAHA! Hickok's the best.

  • In Canada at least, you can buy VZ-58 chambered in 5.56. just thought you would be interested.

  • Truthfully, I think of the VZ58 as being closer to the Simonov SKS than the AK-47 because of the gas system, but they really are their own unique animal.

  • Yeah i'll stick with the AK! Much better/easier system. Good job again

  • @bullynhoney Not really, heavier, less accuraccy. Vz 58 all the way. But is AK is cheaper and spare parts are common.

  • I got two VZ-58 parts kits recently and am going to be building them up this next coming up school semester. Got the prints and I'll be milling out the receivers myself, if it turns out well and you'd still like one please feel free to let me know. Always love building the old Commie Bloc guns.

  • See? Looks can be deceiving. *waves Czech flag* Who needs Russian weapons? WE DON'T!

Fun fact I bet you didn't know, the Vz. 58 was orginally designed to use a different round than the AK, like the CZ 52 was designed for a different round than the TT33. But the Soviets would have no part of that, and killed the project before it entered production.

  • The VZ58 is designed with being lefty friendly in mind! But if you look at an ak, the charging handle and safety switch are more lefty friendly than righty friendly. yay. :)

  • vz58's are huge in Canada because ak's are illegal here

  • ...Also taking off the AK's Gas Tube/ Top Foregrip & putting the Carrier/ Piston back together with out the Gas Tube would be a great example of how the Piston works on the AK-System works.

  • Believe it or not, the AK47's Piston, Carrier & Bolt weigh as much or close to the same as the VZ 58's Block of a Carrier, Bolt & Locking Lug. It would have been nice if you had your scale out on the "Loading Table" to show your viewers the weigh of the two very different designs, of AK47's Complete Bolt & Carrier/ Piston Vs the VZ 58's. It looks like the VZ 58's would weigh much more. As always Great video!

  • Awesome job on the comparison. I really like the vz58 and I would not mind having one either. Thanks to ASP for the loan so you could do this video. May be you could roll in some vids on the vz58??? Awesome job!

  • no slo-mo at the end? slo-mo of taking apart the two rifles at the best times? lol

  • @DinoHunter2 On the prohibited firearms list of canada a few months ago. im looking for a cool new gun but everything i can think of it prohibited

  • Fun video. I understand the Czech rifle was designed to comply with Warsaw Pact requirements for a gun that shot the same round as the AK-47 (similar to NATO standardization). Wonder if the mags are interchangeable? The rifle influenced some interesting Chinese alterations to their AKMs. Some folks might recognize the VZ-58 pistol grips from some of their pre-ban Chinese AKs.

  • @jeffwilsonfhb Mags are not interchangeable, I have one, wish they were but as far as shooting goes the VZ (to me) feels better and I'm more accurate with the VZ (I have both).

  • You should shoot an ak without the dust cover on. The slow motion shots would look really nice

  • oh, a few other things: there is an ambi safety that you can get for it that allows you to flip the safety off with your thumb like an AR-15. Also you state in your video the vz-58 and ak rear sights are 'the same'. Sadly thats not true, your ak peep sight wont work in a vz-58. Since you say the stock is too short, you can get a stock adapter to take AR stocks.

Also note you can charge the gun with SKS stripper clips while the mag is in the rifle. Neat feature you should mention!

  • hikock45: The ramp in the back of the mag is for the LSBHO tab on the follower. I find the vz58 mags to be easier than the AK mags to change, provided you either get the extended/ambidextrous mag drop(aftermarket, steel) and/or get the 'early' trigger guard (doesnt have that annoying curley-que in the way of the mag drop). With these mods, you can drop the mag with your trigger finger. They also make an aftermarket bolt drop lever operated by trigger finger... make it as fast as an AR.

  • Is this legal ?

  • I been asking this question to just about anyone that knows anything about the AK 47..... My question is.... What is the story with the inner core of a Schrader valves used as a front sight in a AK 47?

Maybe Hickok knows and/or maybe Hickok can find out...

  • iis that ak47 a saga

  • wow I like that VZ 58. How much does those go for? Looks like and AK yet looks a bit more better made and I like the wood. Happy Holidays Hickok!

  • @bber45 its not wood unfortunately, its plastic with wood chips molded into it, but MAYBE there is some aftermarket real wood furniture for it, id like some if there is. but the plastic wood chip stocks are very durable, just kinda ugly when you see it in person

  • @567WORMBOY123 Oooo I see I just thought that was some bad ass used wood. So its like a jungle stock or chu wood on an SKS hu? Damn well I must say that is one nice looking rifle...its almost an AK but then again completely different. How much do one of those go for?

  • @bber45 in canada they go fro around 650-700 for one with a 18" barrel or 16" i think, there are also short ones for about 900

if your canadian you can get them here if your local gun shop carry them

    marstar.ca/gf-FSN/index.shtm

im not sure what they run in the states, iv heard its more, if your american check cz-usa and czechpoint-usa

  • @DinoHunter2 Acually we cant own a tar-21 beacuse its a bullpup and bullpups are illegal. :(

  • @DinoHunter2 Yeah, it's because you poor Canadians keep getting our trash. During the American Revolution all our traitors fled to Canada so we wouldn't kill for their treasonous acts against the newly independent colonies. Then, to make matters worse, in the 1960s you got our treasonous cowards fleeing into Canada to avoid doing their duty serving in the U.S. armed forces to fight the North Vietnamese (and the Chinese).

  • @DinoHunter2 (continued) I hereby apologize for the American Government for these un-neighborly incidents. But think of it this way, if our trash had not fled to Canada they would still be here trying to turn over the U.S. to the Communists and neither country would be free right now....had they stayed here we wouldn't be enjoying the resurgence of the 2nd Amendment. Maybe some of our firearms freedom will soon spill over our borders into Canada. :)

  • @Dinohunter2 (continued 2) After we accomplish bringing complete firearms freedom to the U.S. and Canada we can then work on freeing the Aussies and the Brits from the authoritarian control they are currently suffering under.

  • @DinoHunter2 Fair enough, I just have run into Canadians who try to sweep it under the rug and rub it in Americans faces that you can import Norinco rifles and whatnot. Sorry to be so negative Dinohunter2 :(

  • hickok45 i have a chinese AKM that ive had nearly 24 years i bought new.just wondering if there is any difference with it and the ones sold today.its a norinco and less than 1000 rounds put thur it so far.would love to see you with one or at least hear you speak of one.thanks for all you do love you videos please more zombies if any have survived, lol.

  • a review with HK 416 is possible ?

  • Vz 58 is czech Republic

  • @DinoHunter2 Not being nitpicky but I have to point out that all of those guns you listed are great, but in general Canada's gun laws are pretty bad. You're allowed 5 round mags in any centerfire rifle (the M1 is excepted). 10 round magazines for pistols and the barrels cannot be shorter than 4.14" making it illegal to own a Glock 19 (102mm) in Canada or teh iconic Luger 9mm, to top it off there is no such thing as a "non-restricted handgun." ALL handguns are either restricted or prohibited.

  • Very interesting design comparison.

All the times I couldn't remember how to reassemble a particular firearm I'd just gather up the whole mess and bring it to a local gunsmith who would show me exactly how I should hold my mouth right and the pieces would suddenly fit together like magic.

  • You almost called the ak a chopper LMAo

  • Man iv wanted an ak for years now and if i cant get my hands on one the vz looks like a good alternative.... And another great vid hickok, been subscribed since you started and you never fail

  • It would be cool to shoot the Chinese or Russian SKS 7.62x39 side by side with the others and perhaps shoot targets with each and let us know which one shoots better in your opinion.

    Thanks!

  • @DinoHunter2 wow thats bloody loopy!

  • is the kick on the VZ 58 as bad as the AK?

  • @MrPhillba The AK has hardly any recoil in the first place....

  • 7:58 i couldn't help but laugh.

  • @DinoHunter2 i meant no wrong, but it is at least promissing to know that people know about the BS that goes on.

  • By any chance is you AK47 really a Centurion 39?

  • @DinoHunter2 hey thats nothing, australians arent allowed autos at all, semi-autos are only permitted for people who require it for things like pig culling for their job, guns may not be issued for self defence, handguns are limited to 3 working per licence holders, airsoft is illegal, painball guns require a license and military rifles no matter their firing style are illegal.....now you know our pain.

  • Thank for featuring the vz . Since we can't own aks here the vz is a gun Canadians know and love

  • Do you think you'll be purchasing your own VZ-58 in the near future?

  • Oh no hickok, there's an AARP ad on your video! Oh well you're still awesome :)

  • If I may suggest a future "comparison" video: M1 Garand and the M1A. Lots of things that are similar, lots of things that differ.

  • Great vid (again).

I, for one, would like to see more of these types of vids (thumbs up if you agree).

Guns are a brutal version of machines like watches and telescopes; A few simple parts that are elegantly combined to do an incredibly precise and complex task.

It's really fun to see the "guts" of a couple of guns every once in awhile. A man must know his tools.

  • the neighbors are over there shooting i should call the police and complain about the noise hhahahhahaha

  • Do You have SKS (Semi-automatic Simonov carabine) in your collection? (it also uses 7,62x39 round)

p.s. excuse me for my English.

  • @hickok45, I've subscribed to your channel and enjoy your videos. The VZ seems to resemble an SKS-D variant with the detachable mag. We can still get Norinco\Polytech in Canada.

  • 1:23 push the iddle butten lol.

  • @hickok45 never disappoints! I love learning about all different kinds of guns that i have never had the opportunity to touch or shoot. It's so cool seeing them being taken apart and put back together and kind of seeing how they work! Thanks and happy holidays Hickok!!

  • justin biebers dick is so long like the dislike button ;)

  • Keep em clean?!?!?! whyd I watch this hickock? open fire!

  • Thank you sir! I really love it when you take firearms apart in detail like this, even for the guns I already have.

  • wow tacome1942s ak looks so much like the real thing

  • no snow !?

  • Thanks for the great vid and Merry Christmas!

  • I own an SA58 myself. A Gen 1 CZ SA58 though. But I do believe it is more reliable than the AK. Never had a misfire with the gun, and disturbingly accurate.

  • what brand (if any) is your AK? Are these typically less expensive than an AR?

  • @jordub, Mine is an Arsenal. In general, I think AKs are less than ARs, but if you go with a higher grade of AK, such as the Arsenal, it's really about the same, I suppose, depending on which AR you're looking at.

  • @Hickok45 I would love to see a review on a sig 2022, sig's affordable polymer alternative.

  • In Canda the AK 47 is illegal but the vz-58 (CZ 858) is not...... gun law here makes no sense

  • @nhender , The "Intention" of that law is the semi-auto AK is 'easy' to convert to fully auto and so is prohibited, though many "scary looking" firearms are also prohibited, or magically considered restricted because they "look" dangerous. The VZs didn't really start coming in until after the Conservatives came into power - if the Libs were in they'd probably be restricted for no good reason as well.

  • @potatohead5309 Thanks for the info

  • @nhender

because the AK is a big scary baby/cop killing terrorist gun...nobody knows what a Vz 58 is. It's the same with AR's, black scary army gun...while it fires the same round as a typical hunting rifle.

  • @nhender The Canadian gun registry is on its way to being repealed. Just further proof that it's important to vote for politicians that don't suck.

  • @nhender This is what happens with elected officials in charge of making laws start lying to their people. New York City elected officials are famous for flat out lying to the its citizens.

  • 15:17 you may want to clarify that the M1 doesn't shoot the 7.62 but the .30. I know you meant the AK also shoots the 7.62 but others may not.

  • @JAndersonIV, Yeah, I looked at the video, and with my "stream of consciousness" ( or maybe "stream of UNconsciousness") blabber, it sounds a little like I'm saying it uses the same round as the M1, whereas I'm actually reminding viewers who might not know that it DOES share the same round with the AK47 if I had not mentioned it yet.

  • Haha Should i call call the police to complain about the noise?

  • 1 Wild West Guns, the one that comes to mind I think is the Remington 1858. Everyone generally knows Colt six shooter. But in general the 1858 was considered the better gun.

When you broke down the VZ it looked sooo much like a Iver-Johnson carbine.

    Thanks for the review.

    Happy Holidays!

  • I see you didn't need the other hammer..lol

  • Wow... the VZ 58 is a different animal... thanks for the vid!

  • Hickok, in addition to pyrofreaks321s comment you should throw the svt-40 in the mix.

  • Hickok45 = Awesome!

  • That Vz 58 is a technological work of art.

  • Another sign that the VZ is an offspring of the SKS is that you can use SKS stripperclips to load the attached magazine directly. Although the SKS is hammer-fired like the AKs.

Interestingly, the russians copied the VZ-58's striker mechanism for the VSS Vintorez and AS VAL special purpose rifles.

  • Hey Hickok love the video but have a lil off topic question. Bout to pick up a ruger p345 next month just wonder if yu have shot one and have a opinion on them

  • I really like the fact that it is lighter than the ak. I wonder if their is an aftermarket shoulder stock to increase the LOP.

  • I really like these type of videos: The taking apart and looking at the internals of the guns and such.

  • Very good detailed explanation of these two fire arms. Keep it up Greg.

  • Why didn't the VZ58 get as popular as the AK? It looks simpler, better, lighter, and has more features on it. I would definately prefer the VZ.

  • @SmokeyAirsoft24 politics and ability to produce quantities of guns. Type czechoslovakia and ussr into wiki and compare their size and production capabilities.

  • @SmokeyAirsoft24 And is not that great as czechs like to say. It's weighted more on the butt than AK, is a bit lighter and has about 100 rps more than AK. This makes VZ's automatic fire quite inaccurate, compared to AK. Also, it's more expensive and more intolerant to defects.

  • @Mlokokvok Yeah I guess you can't go too fast with rps with a 7.62 since the recoil is harder to control, now if a smaller round would be fitted for it, maybe like what the 74 uses, that could have made it better...

  • @SmokeyAirsoft24 For one Vz. 58 you have 10 Aks, Twat.

  • @Gangster88232 I didn't ask about the quantity, I asked WHY there are less VZ's than Ak's, If you could read correctly, you would have noticed, check your eyes out man, might need some glasses.

  • @SmokeyAirsoft24 The Vz 58, along with almost every weapon used by the Czech Military, is/was made almost exclusively in Czechia. Only ones not made in Czechia where made in Slovakia before the two countries split from Czechoslovakia. While the AK has been produced all over the world! India, Afghanistan, China, etc. So thus, about 100 million AK and AK clones have been made, compared to 1 million Vz. 58s.

  • @leftthenormalworld Although India used to produce AK, their paratropers used vz.58, funny isnt it?

  • @kibicz Really? I had no idea anyone outside of Czechia used it. That is funny, why wouldn't they use a weapon they produce? Ah, what am I saying, tell the Indians to buy more! *waves Czech flag*

  • @leftthenormalworld You can not buy something that is not produced anymore...

    btw: whats "Czechia"?

  • @kibicz czechia(czech republic) is a country in Europe!

  • @kibicz I'm pretty sure the VZ 58 is still being produced, though I could be wrong. I know they want to replace it, but don't have the money to.

Also, Czechia is what I call the Czech Republic. The German Federal Republic is called Germany, the Slovak Republic is called Slovakia, same thing.

  • @leftthenormalworld No, just small amount of new receivers is made by CSA for civilian market, CZ-UB is already supplying new CZ 805 A1 to Czech army.

Czechlands should be the more appropriate single-word name based on three crown lands the Czech republic consists of. Czechia is often mistaken with Chechenia.

  • @kibicz Crown lands? Really? Far as I know, no Slavs refer to those distinctions, not even the Serbs or Poles. Besides, many Czechs prefer Czechia, so I feel it should be in English also. Besides, what else would we call it, Bohemia? Yeah, the name that implies a bunch of high, drunken, and perverted dreamers. That's a real winner there. If two completely different places can be called "Georgia," and that is acceptable, why can't Czechia become an acceptable term?

  • @leftthenormalworld No, official name is Czech republic, its only one country in EU with 2 words name.

  • @Gangster88232 Okay, seriously? I lived there for most of my life people, I know what it is "officially." But just like USA and The United States of America, many people, myself included, just say Czechia. And there is a movement to change the official name to Czechia. Will it ever happen, I kind of doubt it, but still, I've always said Czechia, and I will continue to always say Czechia. It's not like I'm trying to insult anyone, cause I'm not, and I'm sorry if I do.

  • cou
