I have a toilet that started only partially flushing after my daughter put some 'thing' down the toilet supposedly paper towels. I plunged, and used the auger, It did flush with a bucket of water, though. I took the top off the tank and pulled the chain to flush manually and it still didn't flush, although the tank emptied and refilled w/o issue. Could there still be a partial blockage? .
What I do to check to see if the toilet has anything in it after I have done exactly what you have done is roll up a good size ball of toilet paper and try to flush it.
Keep your cover off your tank just in case it backs up and you will then have to push the flapper down by hand to prevent the bowl from overflowing.
A few balls of toilet paper is a great test. If they go then you are all set.
Another potential problem that a neighbor had with an older toilet, the integrated trap itself had built up such heavy deposits that it was choking it down to as small as 1" in places so it would constantly plug. They had tried snakes, chemicals and just about everything else under the sun and finally threw in the towel. After pulling it out onto the front lawn they broke it open with a sledge to see what the problem was, I think it was a chance for some anger therapy too! : )
@erthworm13 Hey there: I ran across this a few different times myself.About 25 years ago was the first time and it almost drove me crazy. A few hours of plunging, augering and pulling my hair out and nothing. Finally, I decided to poor a bucket of water down it and away it went.Ended up changing the bowl, taking it home and doing the same thing only to find more build up then I could have imagined.Good learning lesson for me.One I never forgot. Thanks for commenting and enjoy the evening!!!
