Ferguson began this documentary began by saying that World War 2 actually with Japanese invasion of China in 1937. Well if that be the case why didn't he go into a discussion about that invasion instead of the world economy, the Wall Street Crash and Stalin's Five Year Plan?

nognilk: There was a completely different thing going on between the Second and Third Reichs. However, if you really want to go back, you could say it began in the 1790s with the three Partitions of Poland. The inevitable clash between Prussia, Austria and Russia was delayed a number of times, including by Napoleon, the 1848 Nationlist Revolutions and even the Crimean War bringing Russia down a peg or two temporarily.

Wrong...1:53, the second world war began in 1871, when the German Empire was made. the second world war was hitler's quest to complete the empire eastward.

It's you who are wrong. Without Adolf Hitler the Nazi party might never have been successful enough to win a 33% share of the vote in the elections of 1933 and..... there might well have been no war. WW11 was more due directly to Hitler than any other cause.

Hitler was a man of his time the 2nd world war would have happened with or without Hitler . The how's and the who are not important , be it hitler or somebody else ! The soviets had always had designs on Western Europe . Soviet Union had been to war with Finland and Poland in the name of expansion and eventually would have tried again ! German psyche hoped for a strongman , their 'messiah' hitler merely filled the role and Germany fell under his spell. It was never not going to happen .
