  • My Fancy Rat was diagnosed by vet with an inner ear infection with head tilt. Started Baytril yesterday, I hope it helps. I am happy to hear that yours recovered from the infection, sorry to hear about the tumor :(. This is such a sad thing to see. I thought it was something else and almost didn't take her to the vet, but I'm glad I did ($78 total for visit, Baytril and eye drops to protect her eyes). Laya is a sweetie, so cute and feisty!! I hope she pulls through!

  • Mine is the same right now and I don't have any money for the vet :(

  • Wow, thats a really bad case of it. Almost looks like the infection spread to the brain. poor thing.

  • Oh no poor baby :(

If that happened to any of my rats I'd be so upset :(

  • that is so sad

  • @MegaCheese48 She had a full recovery besides a slight head tilt afterwards. She was put down a year ago for a tumor. She was the most stubborn rat on the face of the Earth. :P

  • my poor baby artemis has similar issues but im not sure if its an inner ear infection or not. hes a very old rat, we dont know how old exactly, and hes paralyzed from middle down. his right ear has an awful smell and he tilts his head only slightly to the side, but all the way if anyone touches his bad ear. i know food isnt an issue because i make all my own food for him, very healthy. (hes on a soft food diet so i cant buy it)

do you think this would help him too?

  • @pianograffio I'd really ask a vet, it sounds like some type of Ear Infection.

  • Poor baby :( She's a sweetie

  • My pet rat miranda has the same thing, i just managed to feed her better like fruits with vitamins and she began to get her balance back but she still walks aroung with her head slightly to the side

  • I feel for you. My willow has got the same balance issues. Not as severe, and I'm hoping I caught it early enough

  • my rat was just diagnosed with this, the vet was great and im relieved that she will be ok and that it is not a brain tumor. she may come out of it with a tilt but im sure she will be ok. she is a fighter as well. the most lively rat i have ever met. Now i have to get her to take the medicine:/

  • If you need to give rats an oral antibiotic like Baytril just use a small amount of Weetabix (with a little water) or another cereal like a moistened Malted Shreddie. It absorbs the Baytril and hides the taste. This has worked several times for me and is so much easier

  • Poor sweetie.

  • @theminutepast Yeah, she recovered from this with balance problems, but recently was euthinized for a tumor blocking her bladder. :( She was a real fighter.

  • Aww, poor Beatrix.

    *sends brownies*

    Lagie

  • Aww.. :(
