  • Why does these Japanese listen to German music?

  • I'm not a professional musician, but I learned about this piece 40 years ago in college. Just listening to and watching it now, here, in this recording, I was in tears. It is absolulely beautiful--a gift to my evening. Thank you.

  • The BEST!!! Eroica I have ever heard! The tempi were Beethovens, it sounded authentic yet not frigid or dry like most of the period instruments recordings i know. Still there was a freedom in music and so much energy. Great ideas from Paavo Järvi. I ve been listening to this piece for years without knowing that the voices he brought out actually exsist. Articulation= magnifiscent! Bravo Paavo, Bravo Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie.

  • If only there had been a roar from the crowd after this.

  • (Beethoven left me with no words after listening to the entire Symphony)

  • Bravo!!

  • 0:42 she is cool!!

  • Been looking at all the different recordings of Eroica and I think this is the best one on Youtube

  • For some reason "Bravo" Just seems like the perfect word to say

  • I concur with PGK's comments, especially those regarding the brief pause! I heard Szell and the Cleveland Orchestra play the Eroica many years ago, and thought it to be the finest reading I ever had heard. Welcome to the Pantheon, Paavo, and your wonderful ensemble!

  • BRAVO!!!

  • A remarkable interpretation regardless of unwritten pauses, as you remarked. When a composer hears his music in his head, it is his arduous task to translate it into an unwirtten language, i.e. the score. Beethoven would have himself stood up and congratulated the conductor, had the composer been able to hear the music, albeit, he definitely would have sensed the lovely nuances.

  • principal violist is outstanding

  • @MrMusicforlife44 True, though every gorram member of this orchestra is outstanding. Their cohesiveness as a group is especially impressive.

  • @FruitMeate absolutely agree!

  • Fantastic, thanks very much to Bunkyosan for posting.

I've watched this a few times and it only gets better. Like all Spirited works it improves each time you hear it. At one point I thought it was going to take off on its own and take the players with it.

    Absolutely marvellous.

I wish we could by it on disc, this performance I mean.

  • what's with the two natural trumpets against the rest of the modern instruments?

  • That finale is so great and poweful!!! thanks for uploading ;-)

  • Absolutely fantastic. Stunning.

  • Not just bravo, bravissimo. I can't wait until he records the cycle.

  • One of the best Eroicas I've ever heard. Amazing. Loved the little pause between the "dying" music and the final Presto (bar 431)--although it is technically not in the score, I've always thought a pause would be effective here, and so it is. Marvellous interpretation and fantastic playing. Thanks for posting.
