Just following the tradition of natural disaster snare drum solos (Tornado, Hurricane. . . etc) I think my next one I'll name volcano or asteroid lol.
@irwin3036able I wanted to keep it more like a traditional rudimental solo, so I started with a theme and variations on some classic solos. Then I just kind of figured out a bunch of licks that I already knew and strung them together into a form. Pretty simple actually :) Shoot me an email and I will send you a copy of the score if you like.
I put thin piece of fabric (I cut it off an old t-shirt) and put it underneath the batter head. That way I got the old school tone, but with the new school tension :)
yeah man. I wasn't going to try the flip in performance, then in the heat of the moment I figured I might as well go for it, and almost had a disaster.
nice and im in high school and i was woundering if u have any advise for me and u wrote that thats awesome!!!! i would love it if u could send me the score i want to be the best i can be.please right back
Post a vidoe of yourself playing some trad grip with the cam zoomed in on your lh and let me know. I will check it out and give you some tips. (i need to see what your hands look like before I can say anything)
I never got around to posting a video - I have no digital camera. Anyway, I figured out how to make it work for me, its unorthodox though.
I wanted to ask, when first starting out with trad, is it going to make your wrist/forearm sore? If so, where at so I can watch for anything unusual.
if it's muscle soreness, that is normal when you are first learning. However, if you're having joint/tendon soreness, then you are probably doing something wrong, and I would suggest that you cease playing until you can get a lesson from someone experienced so you don't develop any bad habits.
Thanks man. I put a thin cloth and stretched it over the drum then put the head on over the top (kind of like Ringo used to do). It's a great sound but tough to play on because the cloth significantly reduces rebound.
Thanks for revealing that. I appreciate it. I really want to learn trad. grip, it feels better in my left than matched but I have a problem with the stick wanting to slide out of the fulcrum. I've watched countless videos to no avail. Any advice?
that snare sounds beautiful. much better than those modern marching snarews you usually see solos played on. Those just sound so annoying

I just checked the music, and it is correct. I did however make a couple changes toward the end in the music sometime after this performance.
