Genius, soulful with a nod to otis redding and his slightly more rock n roll'y soul stuff. I'm preety sure he's not from Brooklyn, Brighton I think it is.
Hey Big Time Showdown (is that a self aggrandizing name or what?) Why don't you take the wax out of your ears. Make a huge candle, light it and warm up your heart.
This guy is a good imitator...he does NOT have more soul than most r nb artists.. he just imitates old soulsingers very well.. he will have vocal chord problems later due to it later.. but he is already multimilionair.. so who cares?LOL
soul doenst mean you can sing loud or scream some notes.as most caucasian people think..for instance I think that Charleen Spiteri (Texas) has soul.. i never heard her scream though...
This dude can sing,,, Harlem USA born and raised and im telling you he has more soul than most black R&B so called artist,,, so now Robin Thicke has some competition,,,lol
And i`ll say one more thing....on radio in Ireland i haven`t heard not even one song from Jamie`s new album.... instead i know by heart songs of Michael Buble or Florence a. t. M. It`s just a fact....no intention to offend anybody.
But hey....life is beautiful, i`ve got to stop complaining!
@aliport7 I'd agree with the gripe about Lily but Coldplay are a talented lot and not boring in the least. Their stuff is epic and good for what it is. No complaints here. Jamie has a different style completely though; 2 distinct entities. Definitely talented+ good at what he does. Indeed he deserves more radio play than the vast majority of pop/R&B rubbish coming from both sides of the Atlantic. He certainly deserves a lot more recognition than that ersatz-soul 'queen' Joss Stone.
@AcousticUplift True, you have it there. Maybe i`m just not the right fan material for Coldplay, didn`t mean to offend or upset anybody. There`s little bit of everything for everyone out there, from Metallica to Nigel Kennedy , or Robyn to Aretha .
wow man wat a voice, puts to shame ppl like james morrisson who just a poster boy rly, music shd be about music and this is a lovley happy song which they nailed!
@jackmyers12 Again, James Morrison is good too. No need to put a similar artist down to appreciate Jamie's talent. I agree it would be refreshing to see him do more soulful stuff like JL though.
wow. i only heard him through the radio. i never would have thought him not to be black. it's like when rick astley first showed his face! regardless, jamie is awesome and extremely talented!

No guys. Listen to me. His hand wasn't shaking. He was shaking his hand. That is the suble but obvious difference. Like my hand didn't write this. I made my hand write it. OK?

No jay, you didn't make it a race thing. You just praised the white soul singers and criticized the black soul singers. Oh wait, that demonstrates a racial bias! Then, instead of directly refuting my argument, you insinuate that I'm the racist and that I'm unintelligent. How very Carl Rove. Nicely played, sir.
O.o sorry, maybe my bad english help ^^, i dont insinuate u r a racist, i just say, soul is soul, nomatter color of the singer, close ur eyes and hear the song with ur soul, white soul singers and black soul singer r the same people, soul singers, the color not make enyone better than other, so talk about color of the singers here have no sence for me, talk about soul have sence, close ur eyes, hear the song, enjoy the music

Sorry to keep ranting, but it blows my mind that no one offered up D'Angelo or Rapheal Saddiq in defense of american soul. Two of the funkiest brothers to come along since James Brown, and you "fans" of soul don't even mention them? Sad.
The most promising American would be Ricky Fante, but he seems to have disappeared. Badu is funk/alternative at best. Hamilton, good, but lacking distinction. India, not classic soul. John Legend, very close, when Kanye is not getting in the way.
i feel just about the same way with you, except for that Anthony Hamilton is amazing. Have you heard Do You Feel Me? Have you heard Cornbread,Fish, and Collard Greens? Have you heard Torn Up? You have to agree, Anthony is amazingly soulfull. Jamie Lidell is also.
You need to stop talking about soul as though you have any clue what real soul is all about. Do you honestly think that white people are saving an art form created by black people? You know why the only people keeping classic soul alive are white? Black people already did it and have since reinvented it, and will continue to do so. Just as white people will continue to struggle to keep up. Hamilton lacks distinction? Is that why EVERYONE who really knows soul calls him the new Bill Withers?

This video is much to silent, and the piano doesn't do the song any good...
The live version on De Laatste Show is way better.
You'll find it here on youtube as well.

I disagree. I think the stripped down feel does wonders for the song.

look at 1.40, he is shocking a little with his hand?? is he nervous hahahahah
sharpbandit 4 years ago
He is not nervous, I think. He did it to add a 'tremolo' effect to his voice. as a guitarist who shakes his guitar while doing a solo

the term is familiar to me.. and no i dont think he can sing that high, it can be called 'tremolo' effected.... sorry ^^
sharpbandit 3 years ago
oh no, sorry for what?! I'm a musician so I'm familiar with this, but-u know-everybody don't have to be a musician!. so, take care.bye.

dont be mad if your wrong.. my brother is a musician too.. :P
sharpbandit 3 years ago
You are right, 13. It's a microphone technique he's using there when he's shaking the mic. He is definitely not nervous; I mean, look at him! What presence! He's not afraid to bear his soul up there, and has an amazing voice.

Wow, Jools' own chords are really cool in this. Really adds another dimension to the chorus.
