all the materials like leather,cowhide or suede don't really cost that much landing cost, labor cost, manufacturing cost and depending on what store orders the shoes, a sales store mark up % on the kicks so the store can make a profit. that's why the kanye shoes are so expensive, when in actuality those shoes probably cost 40-60 dollars to make in the factories minus all the cost and mark ups. so your paying 500 dollars and up for shoes that are only worth 60 dollars.
