@Jl777100 Last time I checked, there had also been four "uncontained failures" on GE built engines in recent years. In the interests of balance, I just thought I'd fill in the bits you seem to have missed.
@Maverickrad You're right, some ain't got a clue have they. Imagine this: ANA go to Boeing and say they want the 787. "No problem" say Boeing, "You got 2 engine choices, but 1 of them burns 25% more fuel/trip than the other". ANA man thinks for a minute then says, "ok, we'll go with the one that burns the 25% extra fuel". We know where tis is going, right. Suggest you go back to school and learn what criteria aircraft manufacturers use when selecting engine suppliers. Start with reqd SFC.....
@Maverickrad Its difficult to take someone seriously when they say the difference in fuel consumption in the GEnx & Trent equivalent is 25%. Had that been the case, RR would never have got the go ahead from Boeing to compete on the 787. So I'm gonna suggest you look at the recent discussion (particularly Reply5) on the merits of both:
What a beautiful piece of machinery! What we can do as humans is beyond beautiful and yet we slaughter each other..... As much as I try I just cannot understand it. The 787 is a work of art
@Maverickrad What crap! Aside from the uncontained explosion of the Trent 900 on QF32, RR have had no problems with their engines in commercial service for the past 15yrs, unlike GE. If Boeing had decided to run with GE engines only on the 787, they would have lost business to Airbus, plain & simple. There may be a cosy relationship between Boeing and GE on the 777ER/LR but Boeing wont commit financial suicide by denying airlines a choice. Your talk off RR bankruptcy is plain nonsense
@Freeflyer91 actually losing engines is not as bad as controls as you can still ``glide in`` for a certain distance as long as you have enough altitude . losing controls though = FUCKED if there is no back up system, so i ask what would happen if an airbus electronics failed fucking up its fly by wire system, do they have back ups? if so which kind.
RR makes fantastic engines, Ge makes fantastic engines, i really havent dealt with boeing engines but in anycase who cares, gas turbine technology is one that isnt delt with lightly because peoples life are put on the quality of the engine, but all engines no matter the make or model have a life time, when it is reached it breaks. just like our sorry asses.

@1stCondi Its not really meant to compete with the A380. B787 is about the same length as a B767. Seating capacity of the B787 is about 210-290. A380 seating is about 525-853. I would have to assume that the Airbus competitor would be the A350XWB

ok, boeing absolutely needs to make the first flight of this aircraft, i mean, come on, alot of companies have been waiting very patiently and some of them have the A380, so really, they should start deliveries before 2011.
President Obama should throw the Boeing 747 Airforce one in the garbage, or give it to a homeless person on the road as a new home, LOL. He should order the A380 as the new Airforce one and travel around the world in class.
LOL the American don't even trust their third class noisy ge engines. Why are they using Rolls Royce engine? It is because they know British are number one and they can never beat the British.

A350 XWB will beat this aircraft. This is a stolen desing of the A350. I don't know why that Obama is still using that trash outdated 747 as air force one, he should throw it in the trash and order the A380. He will look much classy.
Stolen from the A350? it's reverse airbus decided to make the A350 to an answer of the 787 the 787 was annouced while airbus was still developing the A380 about air force one well that 747 still fly's dusn't it? and if they gonna replace it they will take the 747-8I instead or a 777 no way they gonna take an airbus
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
God I forgot boeing was american, I never want to fly on a boeing again now I know that the people who built it have that accent and caps, etc. how awful.
Sorry sir, but the smelly french airplane maker does make planes with RR (A332, A333, A345, A346, A380). Europeans helping out Europeans right? On top of that, SCAirbus does make aircraft with American Power-plants as well, with PW on the A300, A310, A332 and A333, and half with GE on the A380, and GE on Every single Airbus except the A345 and A346, where the RR is standard. These do not include where RR, PW, and GE are partnered in one way (IAE: RR and PW, CFM: GE and Snecma, EA: GE and PW)
They use a variety of engines on all their planes. Gives the customers options. As far as I know they have used everything from GE engines to RR engines to PW Engines. GE = General Electric, RR = Rolls Royce, PW = Pratt & Whitney
Just from the B747 forward. The B747 however was Boeing's first A/C to have an engine option OTHER than PW. With the exception of the 757, RR engines on Boeings are generally less popular than the PW or the GE option although I think more RR powered 777s are flying than PW 777s if I'm not mistaken, since I think only United, China, India, All Nippon, Asiana, Korean, Japan, and Vietnam are the lone PW customers, but some of them are flying GEs as well since they had no option with the 77W or 77L
If Americans are so good, then LOL why are your American cars dying. GM bankrupt. Your auto industry can't even fight the Japanese, Toyota and Hondas are bashing American cars. First defeat the Japanese, then come and talk about competing with Europeans in making aircraft.
Uhh Boeing vs Airbus: Airbus has produced less planes combined of all their types than Boeing has Produced in just the ENTIRE 737 family alone. As for cars: who gives a shit? This discussion is about aircraft, not cars. That would be an apples and oranges comparison. Last I checked Toyota doesn't make airplanes and Honda only makes private small jets, something Airbus and Boeing do not do.
only one sucessful aircraft Boeing has and that is 737. 737 has more orders comapre to other 7 series. Only poor countries and cheap airlines buy those 737 aircrafts. Airbus has more orders than Boeing. A320 is better than 737 it has fly by wire technology. Boeing aircrafts are not at all fuel efficient compare to Airbus. 747 is out of buisness and outdated. A380 will take over.
Uhh Continental, Delta, American, ANA, JAL, SAS, Aeromexico, all full-service airlines and just a handful of the plentiful 737 operators out there, are cheap airlines? The fly-by-wire technology does not make an aircraft any better. 737s operate way more efficiently than A320s with or without the blended winglets and how many used Airbus' are sold? Few. Most of them are in cargo.
I think 747-800 is a cheap and boring replacement for the classic 747-400 series in my mind eye. Boeing did not want to invest in all new 747 replacement as it was seen too risky a buisness venture. I applaud Airbus once again for taking the risk an pushing the envelope in terms of innovation and design technologies. Airbus has only made a profit on one plane. What does that mean? It means
they are derivative innovators who copy and are funded by several governments.
Not blank sheet innovators. So long as those governments write checks for
the losses they are good. Boeing does not put business or profit infront of safety.
As a businessman I tell you Airbus won't last financially. It is exciting to compare sales. But take a look deeper.

Intelpentium54321 2 years ago
ok, boeing absolutely needs to make the first flight of this aircraft, i mean, come on, alot of companies have been waiting very patiently and some of them have the A380, so really, they should start deliveries before 2011.
qwertyguy76 2 years ago
The test flight is scheduled to be later this month-beginning of January. But.. I'll believe it when I see it.
flyingking12093 2 years ago
yeah, i know, boeing just keeps on putting more and more delays until this plane will not get delivered at all.

President Obama should throw the Boeing 747 Airforce one in the garbage, or give it to a homeless person on the road as a new home, LOL. He should order the A380 as the new Airforce one and travel around the world in class.
fachy1981 2 years ago
@fachy1981
The are a few reasons why Obama is keeping the old 747.
1. It's bloody expensive to buy a new Aircraft, let alone kit it out with all the stuff Air Force One has.
2. Obama want's something american so he's not going to buy the A380.
3. VC-25 is doing fine at the moment!
maxsuperdudeisawesom 2 years ago
You guys cant even trust your own GE noisy American engines. That is why you are using RR engines on this piece of crap.
fachy1981 2 years ago
This aircraft is a stolen design of A350 and A350 will beat this aircraft. Just wait when the launch time comes.
fachy1981 2 years ago
LOL the American don't even trust their third class noisy ge engines. Why are they using Rolls Royce engine? It is because they know British are number one and they can never beat the British.

A350 XWB will beat this aircraft. This is a stolen desing of the A350. I don't know why that Obama is still using that trash outdated 747 as air force one, he should throw it in the trash and order the A380. He will look much classy.
fachy1981 2 years ago
Stolen from the A350? it's reverse airbus decided to make the A350 to an answer of the 787 the 787 was annouced while airbus was still developing the A380 about air force one well that 747 still fly's dusn't it? and if they gonna replace it they will take the 747-8I instead or a 777 no way they gonna take an airbus

boeing is the only airplanes you'll see with rolls royce logo on it.
char1eston 2 years ago
I've seen an Airbus A380 with the rolls-royce logo on it.. What are you trying to prove?
JMG717 2 years ago
Yeah the A380 shows RR on the engines.
GMuzicc 2 years ago
Sorry sir, but the smelly french airplane maker does make planes with RR (A332, A333, A345, A346, A380). Europeans helping out Europeans right? On top of that, SCAirbus does make aircraft with American Power-plants as well, with PW on the A300, A310, A332 and A333, and half with GE on the A380, and GE on Every single Airbus except the A345 and A346, where the RR is standard. These do not include where RR, PW, and GE are partnered in one way (IAE: RR and PW, CFM: GE and Snecma, EA: GE and PW)

i never noticed boeing used rolls royce engines.. is this for the more recent planes? or did they always use them
FPVsean 2 years ago
They have used them for ages
AppledoreNews 2 years ago 2
Yeah they used them on some of the 747's 757's 767's!!!
flyingking12093 2 years ago
They use a variety of engines on all their planes. Gives the customers options. As far as I know they have used everything from GE engines to RR engines to PW Engines. GE = General Electric, RR = Rolls Royce, PW = Pratt & Whitney
Stewker 2 years ago
yea the 787 but they did the same with the 757
VFA103JollyRogers 2 years ago

First defeat the Japanese, then come and talk about competing with Europeans in making aircraft.
fachy1981 2 years ago
Uhh Boeing vs Airbus: Airbus has produced less planes combined of all their types than Boeing has Produced in just the ENTIRE 737 family alone. As for cars: who gives a shit? This discussion is about aircraft, not cars. That would be an apples and oranges comparison. Last I checked Toyota doesn't make airplanes and Honda only makes private small jets, something Airbus and Boeing do not do.
pjc858 2 years ago
only one sucessful aircraft Boeing has and that is 737. 737 has more orders comapre to other 7 series. A380 will take over.
fachy1981 2 years ago
Uhh Continental, Delta, American, ANA, JAL, SAS, Aeromexico, all full-service airlines and just a handful of the plentiful 737 operators out there, are cheap airlines? The fly-by-wire technology does not make an aircraft any better. 737s operate way more efficiently than A320s with or without the blended winglets and how many used Airbus' are sold? Few. Most of them are in cargo.
pjc858 2 years ago
Remeber that TWA 747 aircraft that broke into 2 pieces after take off. Can't even trust that 747 anymore. Boeing has more crashes than Airbus.

I think Airbus have pushed aviation 20 years into the future whereas Boeing are still tinkering with a 1960s 747 design.
