  • A voice sent to us by God! What more can we say of this golden voice?

  • Who is the composer please?

  • @Aetion Percy Kahn. He plays the piano in this as well. This is not as well-known as Gounod's and Schubert's versions of "Ave Maria", but I think it's fantastic nonetheless.

  • @31operafan Thank you. Yes it is very nice.

  • @Aetion It's one of the most beautiful recordings I've ever heard from Caruso. I have to admit, I nearly cried when I heard this for the first time.

  • Does anyone know if this song has copyrights or if its public domain?

  • @jackpistoletto It might be in the public domain. I don't know when it was published. But I do know this recording is in the public domain. In fact, all of Caruso's recordings are. Their copyrights expired some time ago. You can download them for free from several websites.

  • This is not the Gounod Ave Maria. I don't know who this composer is.

  • This well made recording from 1913 has additional significance for music lovers as the pianist here is Percy Kahn, the composer of this setting of the prayer. The violinist is Mischa Elman.
