  • I work on Hawks and they have a air oil strut. Or OLEO strut. They allow for very fast rate of decent landings. Close to 11.25 G's when both upper and lower colapse. Of course its a hard landing but survivability is there.

  • @DobermansRock

Oh yeah, OLEO's are on the McCullough J-2 Gyroplane. We designed this for a kind of "all around" suspension. Mostly for rough field. We are a STOL aircraft so having this suspension really helps.

  • @sportcopter It looks that way. I was wondering how a tail dragger set up would work but it would conflict with weight and balance I am guessing. Also with such a short wheel base you would'nt want to tumble forward.

I crewed Blackhawks in the Army for ten years and want to get away from gravity. The Gyrocopters seem to be the most economic way to get airborn again. I am really liking what I am seeing. Now I just have to fill my bank account up.

  • Ok so it has shocks or struts.

  • @DobermansRock

    Yep. It sure does.

  • @sportcopter They are different things

  • @DobermansRock

Oh, was that a question? If so, you can clearly see the springs, and there is a shock absorber built into the tube.

  • @sportcopter So it has shocks not struts. I wonder if struts would be better.

  • @DobermansRock

Noooooooo that is a strut by definition. Look it up. It has a shock, and a SHOCK ABSORBER.....STRUT.

  • Well, yeah, duh - cos the thing about autogyro's is that they have this large mass spinning over the centre of gravity, providing stabilisation through the physics of, um, "autogyration"... Great thing about physics is that it works on land, air, sea, and the vacuum of space.
