Could anyone tell me if my Mackie 1402 VLZ3 would work with this software, i'm not sure if it will or not. Also if i get this software will i get the free update to pro tools 9 as i dont want to have to pay the £400 pounds for it. I'd rather spend £200 on this version. Thanks :)

for me its all about flstudio 8 and reason 4 but i might get pro tools,cakewalk,cubase,and sony acid cause the more you learn the better. and i think every program is good as long as you understand it completely

How do you install Protools 8 on Win.7? I know there's the update, but you need 8 installed to even update it. I've tried to contact Digidesign( even after the name change) and never get help. Do I turn something off? Please help me out.

why don't you guys have any downloadable demo of Pro Tools? potential buyers should be able to test drive your software before spending lots of I demoed Presonus and instantly liked it and wanted to buy it. I can't believe your programmers can't whip out a demo software.

the software without buying the whole package. what's with the proprietary

hardware anyway? having to use only their hardware is a marketing ploy. I have Presonus running on a basic laptop. They should have scale down version for hobbyist or home recording.

It's not marketing, it's called "Hardware company" . Apple does that too, you need a Mac to run Apple's software, because Apple is a Hardware company.

Most professional software requires specific hardware. Autodesk Smoke requires an Nvidia Quadro, Pro Tools HD requires Avid interfaces...

@Lgw1984 The point I was making is, other DAW are azio or usb compatible. you're not stuck having to buy the hardware from the same vender. You can run Steinberg, Cubase etc. with any usb interface. I have Presonus and I'm using a 3rd party hardware. I didn't have to buy their "hardware". When you have to buy the hardware from the same vendor that's "marketing". It's a prorieratary system it's "marketed" that way 'cause some bean-counter thinks it will make more money that way.

@tonemeister3 Yeah, but Cubase costs $500 without an interface. I bought Pro Tools M-powered 8 for $150. So I had $350 to buy an interface :)

@Lgw1984 the M-powered 8 is their entry level DAW. you must have an interface already, even then you have to use m-audio approved interface. my point being with

Pro tools 8 the hardware is bundled in so, you can't really demo it withou buying

the whole thing. I prefer Presonus Studio one with a Tascam 1641. It works

and half the price of Pro Tools pro software.

I bought this today and my volume isnt working. I plugged my headphones into the headphone jack on my Mbox2 and turned up the volume. When I go to play a pre-made beat I cant hear anything. Does anyone know if I have to fix the volume in the Pro Tools LE 8 or what? I cant seem to get any sound but the whole system works fine.

Try arming the selected track's record button, and make sure your inputs are correct

PC, that is your first mistake. Because you are using LE and not HD, than an iMac should suite you fine. Coming from someone with a lot of experience, you should get the 24 inch iMac, not the 20 inch one because you really need the biggest screen possible. If you need to run windows macs run both, and surprisingly iMacs are cheaper than PCs with similar specs. So that is a great value. Go to apples website, and make sure you go to the education store to get 100 dollars off.

you can makebeats with anything. its all about preference.. if you are a mac whore get logic... you COULD get both.. i got Protools 8 with nexus and reason 4.0 and sampletank/mellotron.. that is peeerrrfect for beatmaking.. now if you wanna do some real composing get east/west quantum leap stuff.. its the best!!!

get this use and an 003 use the adat optical on the 003 to connect to a high end converter and you get hd audio that sounds better then the pro tools hd systm!!!

To tell you the truth (I said this somewhere else too...). I liken Pro Tools to a very nice, very cool, very perfect person....except you hate the way they look, so you don't really call them much.
