I saw a show from the Tusk Tour and, compared to seeing them recently, that show was an utter disaster. The band was obviously severely coked-up to the point of distraction. The result was a performance that may have owed more to Van Halen style of histrionics than anything. I prefer the band now; they seem more in control of themselves.
Although I unfortunately must say that the version on the Mirage dvd (1982) sounds far more driven than this one. Also Buckingham's guitar is a bit small in the mix.
@Scarlette 536 , that's his custom-designed Rick Turner model. Just look and listen to his hugely energetic fingerpicking style and then say again that you don't take him serious as a guitar player.
@planetmusicsamos probably from people that were rocking to hard when the base came in and they missed the like key and hit the dislike key instead. they are forgiven ;)

Last show of the Tusk Tour was at Honolulu, and I was there.
I remember John McVie broke the stings on the opening of The Chain, and then started over from the begining. As the last show of the tour, it was a wild night
thank you thank you thank you. thank for the passion in this song and for the audience and its appropriate response of utmost delicouse delight and lust.
@gtootikian I agree. Lindsey Buckingham is one of the great "underated" lead guitarists in rock. He can play anything - and very well. Fleetwood Mac was significantly enhanced when Lindsey/Stevie joined in '75. An awesome guitarist that had a great singing voice and wrote his own fine songs. Then, as the bonus, his beautiful, captivating girlfriend added a star power the band needed. Stevie was the real deal. A serious songwriter whose songs & persona added an ethreal, mystic aura to the Mac.
@Jamy729 Yes. Even Stevie has acknowledged his critical role as her best producer. There was a kinship between Lindsey and Stevie that extended to their music. Stevie has always been a really superb songwriter. However, her songs (certainly in the earlier days) required the right production to make them properly structured without losing the emotional essence that Stevie weaved into everything she wrote. Lindsey did that brilliantly, and with FM, added his own harmonies and killer guitar.
@redletter2008 - true. but in all fairness it was sometimes stevie who sparked the idea behind the music and Lindsey took it from there and turned them into masterpieces. Stevie is also a poet in every sense of the word. :))
@Jamy729 Poets - priests of nothing. Regarding The Chain, Stevie wrote all of the song's lyrics and should have received more than a simple joint songwriting credit that gives the impression that her contribution was on the same level as Mick's. Silver Springs should have been on Rumours also. If space was the issue, then Lindsey's "Never Going Back Again" and/or Christine's "Oh Daddy" should have been put on the back of singles in order to allow "Springs" to bulk up the LP. Just my opinion.
@jambamz Your right about that! I think it was keith but i did find it out on wikipedia and we all know how reliable that is lol Either way the muppet character is based on a brilliant drummer.
@nardo363636 Yeah, screaming and cheering because Fleetwood Mac are tearing it up onstage. The crowd going ballistic while the band are at the peak of their career.
@sattfield God your a dick.............you could work all your live and never ever make or come close to the money they all have, why be mean, Oh I get it your very young

@kawapilot but isnt that whats compelling at all, rightttt? love me some hope and eva, but they are a lil boring and safer in their untouchable veneer - TUSK the album itself stomps the shit outa any mazzy. but errything else, i totally second! fighting each other using songs IS why they wrote some fuckin killer SONGS. every great band has fought each other using songs. EVERY great band. peter green FMwere cool, and perhaps better musically to certain tastes, but THIS song STEAMROLLERS old FM.

@squidster29yay love your explanation squid! I love the mac s music but dont no much about the in s and outs of wot happened in the bands unfortunatley. 'Enlighten me
@whoisthatguy1000 The cocaine part is unfortunate, but she still is one of the best female rock singers of all time. The cocaine has taken it's toll on her voice, but she's clean now and still sounds great. No artificial food coloring included.
If they weren't so riddled with drugs Stevie and Lindsey would have produced amazingly beautiful and quite likely very talented offspring!! Too bad for them and for us!! Thanks for the great post.
@ilovelucy456 Nice thought, but even if they had stayed together I'm not sure that would have happened. She has said many times that she made a deliberate choice of her career over having children and that wouldn't have worked with her lifestyle. She and others have also said that they were suprised he ever settled down and had a family. Also, notice that when he did he was in his 50's. It just seems to me that they would have both been to obsessed with music to start a family together back then
@meredithlynnbilhartz I read a biography on the group & it sounds as if whatever they had pretty much ran it's course after the first year or so with FM. While they were Buckingham/Nicks, apparently Stevie was quite insecure about her talent, unaware of it & Lindsey was allowed to dominate the relationship. When Stevie began speaking up & became more confident it didn't go over too well. At one point I believe Linsey went for her throat shouting, "Get this psychotic bitch away from me"-YIKES!
@jlalewicz The "Lindsey tirade" you mentioned happened at Christine's house in 1987. The group met Lindsey there to discuss the Tango tour (already booked based on LB's agreement to tour for 10 weeks), only to have Buckingham announce that he was leaving the group immediately. Stevie was irate and went after Lindsey. She was furious that he would leave them right after committing to the tour. Lindsey also physically assaulted Stevie onstage during the Tusk tour. He mocked/kicked her while wasted
Stevie's eyes at 1:46 says it all.... catch the Mac at the start of the tour before she gets sick of touring and shows she's having to go through the motions... to this day that's true when she tours with them... fortunately it's Stevie Nicks <3
Back then I thought it was so cool, but doesn't Mick Fleetwood look like the Mad Monk Rasputin? I knew they were all whacked out on drugs back then, but I loved and still love their music. You could see/feel the tension between Stevie and Lindsey, as well as Christine McVee and her then husband. Does this mean tension/stress makes for good music?
John McVie told Lindsey "I think it's time for you to leave" & stated in interviews that he meant leave the house, not the band! But that is when Lindsey left, breaking the chain. Lindsey was the one whose anger was out of control, since he was strangling her by that point, literally, but Stevie has since stated that no one ever loved her like Lindsey did. This I get from live & written interviews. Awesome band!
Stevie left Lindsey, not the other way around. Obviously we don't know the dynamics of their relationship, I think fame took it's toll, Stevie wrote "Landslide" about their relationship before this song, and Lindsey wrote "Go Your Own Way" about her, she was pissed because of the line "shacking up is all u want to do" & wanted it taken out of the song. At some point Lindsey kicked her on stage-they finally got into it at John McVie's house when Lindsey attacked her verabally & physically
Actually, during the Rumors sessions they had the instrumental outro finished and on tape... but didn't know what to do with it. Stevie then suggested an angry, half finished song of hers from way back. Fucking Magic.
good band. they broke up because they all started sleeping with each other. nicks and fleetwood orchestrated the break up of the band which was a shame
@leeisagod : Well they are still together in 2010. And they never have officially broken up, Lindsey left in 88, Stevie in 91, everybody back in 1997, Christine retired in 98...never break ups, just lineup changes
Un-be-lieveable talent!

good band. they broke up because they all started sleeping with each other. nicks and fleetwood orchestrated the break up of the band which was a shame

@leeisagod : Well they are still together in 2010. And they never have officially broken up, Lindsey left in 88, Stevie in 91, everybody back in 1997, Christine retired in 98...never break ups, just lineup changes

The best Fleetwood Mac song ever performed live. IMO. Especially on "The Dance" tour in 1997. I love the version that's on that concert DVD.
