  • Those elk are crossing the boarder from Canada to get away from Justin Bieber....

  • After watching Dreamcathcher, I would've dipped after that tenth one passed.

  • OF all the elk crossing signs I've seen, this is the only time I've seen elk crossing.

  • Better than counting sheep. Lovely!

  • Oh so amazing! Took my breath away! i have never seen so many ELk it just kept going and going!

  • around 1:10 to 1:20 you can see a small bull with a collar on lol nice sized herd of elk tho i wana run into that hunting ;)

  • Fantastic. When I read all those comments below, I think - who wrote them and I think, who forced the wolves out to interrupt the natural prey issue. From those hunters who just kill for "fun" to those PETA officials who presume they know all the answers, I reach only one logical conclusion. Human beings are the bane of the planet. It is best proven by the human assertion that they are the superior species.

  • wow echovarde all the wolves deserve to die go hug a tree

  • Apparently this herd has no experience with ice. Must be a southern herd.

  • We are doing everything we can to save our elk. This footage will go down in history, because you will never see this again!

  • That's slot where I live that's like almost an everyday thing for me on the way home

  • Where was this filmed? Looks like Eastern Oregon ??

  • I have belonged to PETA since I was about 3 years old. The original PETA: PEOPLE EATING TASTY ANIMALS. I try not to buy store bought beef and our family survives on venison, elk, and pronghorn meat. I do not how ever agree with the current methods used to cull elk out of Rocky Mtn. National Park. Hunt 'on'---Vintago----out.

  • Rawliberty, you've got to be kidding, right? All I did was offer clarification to other posts. Since this is clearly important to you, let me say I'm proud of you for sticking to your convictions. Spare me, however, the imposition of your personal sentiments with regard to consumption of meat. I eat it, you don't. Simple as that.

  • It's really neat how the cars stopped to let them go by and I didn't hear any gun shots. lol Good job, people!

  • That is literally a hunter's dream right there. I have never seen a herd that big.

  • Thank you, that must have been super wonderful to experience "live", cause it was awesome to watch the video.

  • Who put the stupid road there,,,

  • Fantastic video. Talk about being in the right place at the right time! I counted 310, give or take, so close to what others counted. Next to moose, elk is the largest north american mammal in the deer family. The plural of "elk" is "elk." Estes Park is Colorado. Yes, if you eat meat, somebody killed it. Condemning hunters is the height of hypocrasy. The hunter respects what he/she killed, and isn't just stuffing another Big Mac into his gut, oblivious to the beast that produced it.

  • @DrSkippy1 , humans don't require meat, therefore it is not necessary for us to kill to live. If it was, I would be dead as I haven't eaten it for 23 years. We are frugivorous primates, as evidenced by our anatomy & physiology. The info we are taught about nutrition is highly influenced by the meat & dairy industries.

  • This was amazing. Thank you so much for sharing this. Wonderful to watch all of them just crossing the road.

  • Wowza!

  • I counted 305 and didn't get the ones in the very beginning of the heard and I'm sure there were a few after......

  • I counted 305 and I am sure there were some in the beginning and a few in the end. Wow.

  • This video was taken in Estes Park, Colorado.

  • After counting to 55, I got distracted. WOW! Never saw this many elks!

Thank you for showing this to us.

  • WTF is an elks?

  • What state is this in?

  • Thank you so much for sharing this amazing video. I wonder how many there were? What a lucky day for you to see this. Thanks again for sharing...

  • were is this at

  • 300+ elk! what an amazing sight. Thanks!

  • Great Video Thank......

  • Excellent.

  • The only reason the US has such a great wildlife population is because of hunters and wildlife management.

  • Amazing so many of them ...thanks for posting !

  • Nice video, Good shot. Thanks for the upload.

  • Wow, what an impressive sight. Thanks Carrie for the great camera work and thank the Briscoes for sharing.

  • Lord there IS a great migration in route and yes The elk are crossing the road..

    AMEN and Hallelujah!

  • did you watch all the way through to determine there was no red?

  • What a sight! Thanks to the folks who caught this migration!

  • This is awesome :) I can't believe how many there were... Where was this taken? What state?

  • Look for the RED one at the very end. That must be the Ca-moose!

  • There're is NO RED one!

  • cool, i lost count around 400...yes, i have that much time on my hands :)

  • Wow! That was so awesome! There must of been hundreds. Thanks for sharing!

  • Awesome video. One thing i dont understand, how does a video of a bunch of elk crossing a road get turned into a political debate?? Thats just sad.

  • Thanks for sharing this...AMAZING what God has shared with all of us!

  • looks like dinner to me

  • That was truly amazing.... WOW

  • MMMMMM....Jerkey!!!!

  • That's truly amazing - almost on the scale of a caribou migration! They do seem to be very sure footed on the rocks but stepping gingerly and carefully on the asphalt.

  • @FilmerOfBobcats It looks like there's ice on the road.

  • you tree hugger's really are fucking stupid aren' t you? You really don't have a clue. No merit or basis for your arguments. Give it a freakin break!

  • Of all the comments on this video yours are the only ones that at nasty, insulting, and use swear words to express yourself. Just no class.

  • Vegetarians have to kill to eat, too. If you truly are committed to eating without killing anything, you have to either wait until plants or animals die of natural causes, then consume them, or eat only eggs. If you REALLY care about not killing, you should go out in the woods and starve yourself, thus becoming food for the plants, animals and bugs and doing no harm to any living creature!

  • Yes, when we eat another we have to kill it first -- at least that would be the most humane method. And yes, when we eat any meat we are responsible for its death.

We meat eaters kill to eat - a fact . I'd say people who hunt are probably MORE humane (at least those that are sober) than the factory farmers.

Carnivores and omnivores do this as a part of the natural order. Doesn't mean I think it's ok -- just that it's what we do -- kill to eat and survive. It's not even good for us.

  • Holy eff! I counted 312 (probably off by a few due to the shaking of the camera) and at the end they showed no sign of slowing down! That's a lot of Elk :) And yes, I do have too much time on my hands!

  • lol that is so cute!

  • It's surprising some weren't injured. I think they must be pissing on the road. Notice how it gets more slippery astime goes by.

  • This was so amazing & beautiful. To all the ppl screaming at hunters.give it a rest. My family hunts for food. We eat what we hunt. I have a disease where it is better for me to eat elk and deer than beef. Just because someone hunts doesn't mean they are murderers. thats ridiculous. Guess evryone who kills animals are murderers then. Think of that when you bite into a steak, chicken breast, or tuna melt. Just because you didn't kill it with your own two hands doesn't mean you don't play a part.

  • Quite right my friend

  • @nazratred I ate elk steak and hamburger both great taste good.

  • was this in California hahahahhaha yea right

  • LOOK at all those backstraps!!

  • very beautiful

  • Where's my rifle?

  • That is amazing. Thanks for posting.

  • THANK YOU

  • They are having an Elk overpopulation problem in Rocky Mtn National Park. The wolves and other predators have been driven out by the crowds of people so there are too many elk. Last summer/fall the forest service brought in some hunters to cull the herdsmuch to the chagrin of the PETA members who I guess would rather seen them starve.

  • It is probably the case that the food supply for this herd is at least partially provided by pro-hunting game departments, which deliberately inflate populations in order to ensure that hunters have targets. So they can then use the "starvation" argument to justify their sport. It is this kind of meddling in nature and conflict of interest that PETA objects to.

  • haha I liked it when it started freezing and they all were slipping!

  • elk? I think they were rein deer headed to the North Pole for the try outs for the Santa Claus Olympics.

  • lol, their ice skating

  • When the video began I started counting them! LOL I lost count at around 150 because they got too cramped and simply because there are just too damn many! This is incredible!

  • where is this at?!?

  • Looks like this would be perfect place to go elk hunting.

  • OMG is that all you think about when you see nature!!! Thats crazy... I can't beleave people like you are real omg

  • What a duesch! Hunting is part of life. I bet you even like Obama....you tree hugging hippee.

  • Why are you calling everyone a dueschbag? You are the one talking about killing nature for fun!!!! Most people are watching this to watch the beauty of it your just tring to plan when and how to blow their heads off!:(

  • @Falcon1383 First, you folks can't spell. The word is spelled, d-o-u-c-h-e. Second, hunting for meat and to reduce animal over-population is essential and legitimate. Duh.

  • Why not hung humans and reduce the human population? since human over population has fucked up the planet. Sound legit to me

  • Who knows what might sound legit to you, csincali? What are you trying (unsuccessfully) to say in your comment ? One must assume you are a valued member of the "ME GENERATION," because your grammar & spelling are atrocious. Why do you need to use foul language? Regarding overpopulation of the planet, why do you stay? I suggest that you dress up in a cute little elk costume and stroll through the woods during hunting season.

  • I am just making a point. animals are hunted for food. Why care whether they are over populated? Perhaps you should care more about human over population than animal population. If you like to hunt thant hunt dont make excuses for why you do? Humans are a disgrace to this planet we have no benefit to the earth all we do is destroy. Animals on the other hand all have a purpose. Oh one more thing kiss my ass!!

  • @csincali --Who's making excuses? I am a 66 year-old grandmother. Hunting is not really my thing, but I have prepared the day's kill for a couple of large families in the past. I don't think you'd like the results of a ban on hunting...Things would get real dicey. Messy, too. Farmers wouldn't be happy, either. There's that potty-mouth again, little "ME" freak. Re: Human overpopulation; I'd love to rid the country of illegal aliens. Now, that would make me a useful human being! Finis.

  • Did I say ban hunting Old women? Not once did those words appear on the screen. I said stopping making excuses. I have been hunting myself and yes I have seen the result. Human population is the number one cause of global problems. You say get rid of illegalls as if I care. What is a "ME" freak? For someone who is 66 and was apart of 1960's revolution your views are sure wack. Proudly born in 1984 Peace im out-

  • Humans are a disgrace? Get a grip nothing is perfect evens animals, Animals eat other animals all the time, it is call survival.

  • Um...open your eyes and look the hell around. What planet are you people from that you do not see the devastation on this one? The devastation caused by humans. Yes animals eat to survive. When a predator takes its prey the carcasse feeds many animals not just one. We dont see animals killing others taking them to extincition. Nor do animals pollute, use mass resources, have racial issues, war, or political problems.

  • if humans are so bad for the planet please take the following three steps 1 find gun 2 place business end in your mouth facing slightly upward 3 pull trigger. pass this on to your like minded friends and the world will be a much better place for it..oh by the way if you cant find a gun you can borrow one of mine

  • Actually animals often come close to driving other animals to near extinction in individual habitats. I won't argue with the rest of it, but by-the-book hunters and game and fish commissions play a key role in keeping stable populations and habitats with many species.

  • @csincali

You self hating fool. Go drink some more kool aid.

Amazing how stupid and brainwashed some fools can be.

  • I hate that stupid son of a bitch Obama, I hate environmentalist and PETA, Im not gay and yes hunting is part of survival. And yes I would hunt and kill for survival. Animals were put on this earth for survival. Not so guys like you can feel like a big bad macho guy because you killed something that didnt even have a chance.

  • Im just saying its not a sport and I dont have to go kill something just to make me feel like a man. Youre comment speaks for its self and says everything about youre mentality just as most hunters. Thanks no go murder something so you can feel good about yourself.

  • You know i could reply to this and call you a hippy and all that other stuff, but i wont. You show your ignorance when you speak of something you know NOTHING about. I get so amused when people say "oh you killed something that didnt even have a chance". Right dude, come out of the urban areas and see truly wild animals and tell me they dont have a chance then. Ignorance, pure ignorance my friend.

  • Maybe they just like sliding on a little ice like I do.

  • Anyone wonder why they all chose to cross the road at what looks like the only ice patch??

  • Yeah they follow they natural terrain. probably a "cut" or valley so to speak. so does the water.

  • If you take a close look the ice patch gets bigger. I think it is the water coming off their hooves and freezing to the road. Just my 2cents.

  • @cragcrawler I agree.

  • Elk follow the same paths day after day, year after year. This migration path is likely ages old...and it simply depends on the weather, it may not always be icy when they cross.

  • You think they might be going around the corner and coming back by again? LMAO

  • @MrSaltwatercowboy

Yes! It's the same 2 dozen and they play this trick every day ... :p

  • @MrSaltwatercowboy First funny comment on the blog!

  • They once had Teddy Roosevelt. They survive now because our congress and president is too busy taking our money to notice them

  • Ha ha ha , I was just trying to be funny, but it did seem like a lot of doggies. No one would have to be hungry in that area for sure. Thanks for your reply.

    Saltwater Cowboy

  • Somehow the government is to blame for everything eh?

WAIT! Is this not a democracy? Are we not the government?

  • Suesearcy, I wonder how in the world elk, bears, moose, deer and buffalo all managed to survive with those nasty wolves for all the thousands of years before we stepped in. In reality, the reason there are so many problems with the populations of SO many of God's creatures is because man interferes.

  • @rockeridolfumc Ahem. God had a plan.

    He implemented it.

  • To me, it seems to be better to be on the side of the wolf, elk, wolverine, and moose - on NATURE'S side - working with nature (and yes, even hunting) - than on the side of corporations, factory farms (CAFOs), and those turning animals into antibiotic loaded, sick meat factories for us.

Watch "Food, Inc." Read about CAFO's and look for videos on the web. See how your "food" and nature have been RAVAGED over the last 30 years. Protect wilderness and let nature work its magic.

    Open your head.

  • If wolves could type, they would say that HUMANS are a danger to the elk population - that we destroy habitat, wipe them out with cars, etc. Check wikipedia to see what happened to billions of passenger pigeons (now extinct) and millions of buffalo to see what happens when HUMAN hunting is not controlled. We are lucky we have any elk left at all to hunt - because of US, not wolves. Wolves and prey coexist just fine --- you should worry more about corporations, politicians, and developers.

  • @BlackDoggies You are soo right. My town is full of bancrupt empty strip malls and empty parking lots where there once was beautiful woods. The few left are surrounded bu half empty condo complexes. We have deer with a loss of habitat for no other reason than some builders greed and poor planning by citiy officials who usually has a relative on the construction sites.

  • They don't have to type, they are saying just that now. They come into areas populated by humans and still food where ever they can. Theyare saying, YOU took my lands, I have no where else to go. Fix it, or live with it.:-)

  • More on wolves: It is only when MAN has interfered by introducing thousands of miles of "edge" habitat for deer with giant food supplies (corn, etc.) followed with predator removal that populations go out of control, creating boom/bust starvation and disease outbreaks. The introduction of Parvo virus by a boater's dog hurt the wolf population and impacted the wolf-moose balance on Isle Royale. Where wolves exist, deer populations tend to be healthier, with bigger deer, and FEWER coyotes.

  • Further - on wolves - when the prey overbrowse their food supply, the weakest become increasingly vulnerable to predators as they starve more. The wolves take the weakest/sickest genetically inferior moose (or elk), leaving the healthier moose to reproduce and decreasing the number of moose using the existing food. Weaker prey also become vulnerable to ticks, etc. - and are easier prey. Fewer browsers takes pressure off vegetation and puts pressure on wolves so their are fewer. It works.

  • Suesearcy - you are uninformed. Wolves and prey existed without man-made "control" for thousands of years. The best wolf-prey study in existence is the ongoing (for 50 years) wolf-moose study on Isle Royale in Lake Superior. The populations of both species rise and fall due to various factors, including weather, but for the most part, the wolf population is controlled by the size of the moose population - which is mostly kept in check by the amount of food available to the MOOSE.

  • i counted about 300 head and maybe 25 calves....

  • We have elk in Utah also but to see a herd of this size was absolutely dumbfounding. Lucky you and you family for being able to see such a sight.

  • holy shit

  • that was AMAZING!! one of those would feed my family for a year...

  • isn't this amazing?? The wolves will have them thinned out in just a few short years if we let them!! Elk is a favorite of the wolf diet - we need to keep them in check!!! Love those elk - we have large herds here in Wyoming as well

  • Comment removed

  • @suesearcy

    Really?

How did the elk survive all those thousands of years without us to protect them?

  • Wolves happen to be good for Elk population. They tend to go after the older and less "fit" Elk as they're easier to take down, thus allowing making the remaining herd stronger, not to mention preventing overpopulation that leads to starvation and unhealthy herds...in that way hunters of both the four and two legged variety are a good thing for the elk ;)

  • Isn't nature wonderful??

  • Thank you so much for sharing your video with all of us!

  • BBQ on the Hoof! What an amazing Video! Thanks for sharing!!!

  • great stuff!

  • Maybe they pass behind the car, go back up and go in a circle:)

  • :L :L haha

    mabye your right lol

  • Wow!!!! Never saw anything like that!!!

  • they are beautiful and they just keep on coming!

  • Hey Homegrown, where was this taken from? Thanks for b ringing it to us!!

  • Great video and thanks for sharing. One can only imagine what this land use to be like before setllers from Europe. This is quite a herd of Elk!

  • What an amazing site! I know I would never have a chance to see something like this in person, but this was the next best thing. Thank you!

  • Wow, I counted 305 elk and that doesn't cont those that slipped by when the camera was on either hill side. Impressive when you see them string across a road like that. I have seen big herds in the Northwest but this is pretty amazing. Thanks.

  • that waz adorable hahaha

  • WOW thats alot!

  • 310!!! holy shit

  • Great video! What a neat opportunity to get to see this!

  • thank you for posting this. This is a familiar site that makes me homesick. I lived in Oregon for most of my childhood, and we would see Elk travel in packs like this on numerous occasions. Here in the east we are lucky to see a deer now ande then. Thanks again.

  • Boom, chink, BOOM, Chink, Boom, chink. Oh look there are still 397 in this vidoe left to come thru your car windsheild and kill you.

  • how cooll

  • Sometimes you have to thin the wolf population, sometimes you have to let the wolf population grow to keep the elk or deer population lower. It may be that man has caused an imbalance - who cares. What's done is one and now the wild animal populations need to be managed. Most of the problem is with people overlaying a human persona on an animal. Animals are not humans folks. AND...yes...elk are delicious.

  • Logger522 to those that think wolves are not killers need to spend a night in the Idaho mountains because the deer and elk, wild chickens, turky's and every thing else that reps. food is about gone do to the foolish notion of mankind to mess with and knocking nature out of balance

  • msfotonut; you are so right. i am glad to see another person with common sense. you told it as it is.

  • scuffie55; i don't blame the wolves they are doing the natural thing that they do.also they are a beautiful animal. the one's at fault are the ignorant people that put them in here. wish they had put them in your yard instead of mine. but now i reckon we will have to handle it. we did before.--keep a stiff upper lip---lol

  • Having lived on the edge of the forest and near town I have had wolves come into my yard chasing my horse. I have seen the devastating kill for fun of large elk, moose, and deer. Also people's dogs have been mutulated from wolf packs. Besides the lively hood of ranchers going down the tubes. What will it take? Pack of wolves coming into the school yard and running off with children to get you bleeding hearts to realize they are the TOP of the food chain and must be contained

  • I live close to the forest and have had wolves chase my horse until they found deer to chase. I have seen the kill for fun mutulation of elk, moose and see the loss of sheep, cattle to packs of wolves. They mostly kill for fun and leave large carcasses for decay. Bleeding hearts, come see and watch what they do. They must be controlled

  • So are idiots.

  • O.k. Let's bury the hatchet, and just agree that the elk were really awesome to see. I have never seen that before. Have a ducky day!

  • Wow! Amazing! I never saw so many at once.... Very cool footage (and narration by your little tyke :) ~ Thanks for sharing!

  • did anyone see the one with the collar?

  • Comment removed

  • Obviously you don't live in an area that elk and wolf cohabitate. I have watched a pack of wolves take down several elk & calves in one day. They don't target the old, lame, or slowest. The pack work together to bring down as many as possible & then eat only the best parts and then move onto the next. It is the true meaning of pack mentality & they don't come back to feed off the already downed animals. Same with our moose population, almost completely decimated from the return of the wolf.

  • Evidently elk do not walk around black ice.

  • Backcountry; from my home down the road for ten miles is winter feeding grounds for elk. Years ago i have seen600 to 1000 head of elk in that area but since the wolf introduction now there is 60 maybeas much as 100 . i don't blame it all on the wolves. the fish & game is partly at fault also miss management.that is a given. but at the rate it is going. we may have to eat wolf--may not be bad spices. lots of spices.

  • Reintroduction of wolves, but not introduction.Gray Wolves have been here a lot longer than the white folks. Probably longer than my people, too, lol! (By the way, there isn't a Canadian Gray Wolf; it's the same genus as what is indigeous to all of North America) If you think wolves are such a problem with the elk population, don't you think the elk may have become extinct by now? And I'm not sorry that so called sportsmen don't want to hunt in Idaho anymore - too much effort for them, I guess.

  • They may not be extinct in some areas, but with the wolf population skyrocketing, mismanagement by game departments, etc. they are well on their way. Why do you think that wolves were erraticated in the first place?

  • phoglight; i have lived in the mountains with the animals for over 40 years and have probably forgot more than you will ever know about them. my home is at the base of the mountains where i have lived the other 30 years of my life. as for killing critters i ate what i killed which i can not say for the canadian wolves they introduced in here. never hunted for sport but if the wolves don't stay out of my backyard i am going to start-i am old but not that old. lol

  • @bullbuck64 Ignorance is Bliss...goes for the governor in Idaho too. I want the wolves to live the way they are meant to, and I want to know how some of you know that the wolves are just taking down any elk they want. They could have problems, but at the time, the poor wolves are eating what they can. Those elk are beautiful, but so is all of wildlife.

  • I ended up counting 314...not sure how many had crossed before she started the video or how many came after....makes me wanna go hunting!

  • @TurkSDSU Oh MY God...I can't believe you. I am hoping ther is a grizzley bear with your name on it.

  • Elk taste great,...organic as well

  • Hunting is fun. You should try it some time. Then you would know most of us eat what we kill. We don't just let it rot. There is a point. I guess you would rather them starve to death from over population though, huh?

  • It took a while, but I finally noticed the ice patch on the road, Somewhere I lost count, but imagine the grass they could eat in one day!!

  • FANTABULOUS video!! THis is why I carry a camera in my car ~ I have never caught anything as amazing as this though. Thanks for sharing :)

  • We use too have elk crossing like this until the feds. introduced the canadian gray wolf to IDAHO in 1995. In the last 15 years the elk are down to where hunters say they will never come to IDAHO FOR ANOTHER HUNT. this i think is very sad and border on criminal.

  • We still have elk herds like this in Idaho. Seen it plenty of times since 1995.

  • lol after lik 3 minutes you cant help but feel sorry for em for havin to sit their and wait for em to cross, it s lik gettin stuck behind a hugesass train!

  • We see a lot of elk here in Wyoming but your video is extraordinary. Good job!

  • wow...such an "amazing" video... -.-
