Absolutely, the stones and the other oldies are real artists. idol is just a marketing scheme aimed at phone companies profits and almost zero talent. Yes, some of the kids sing wonderfully but hey, they are no originals, they just copy the things done before. Jagger can still rock better than any douche bag that ever won American Idol. He actually had to fucking work to get where he is today, and has respect from the musical community.
Mick Jagger may not be a singer in "the Tom Jones sort of way" (and he's probably the last to be bothered by that!), but very expressive, with an original approach (leaning on the soul/blues tradition), which can't be said by most "Idols" participants.
BTW, is there a maximum age for taking part in the American Idols competition?
I guarentee you that if Mick Jagger auditioned for American Idol today Simom Cowell would still rip him apart and criticize him. Mick may have what it takes to be an "American Idol" but that wouldn't stop Simom from telling him he thought he sucked a time or 2.
