Dedicate this to the QB of the 2011 New Orleans Saints, an outstanding year regardless of coming up just short in a remarkably amazing playoff game against the 49ers!
I was blessed to see these guys in the summer of 1976 at Memphis, Tennessee. Stood about 15ft in front of stage. Don't know what happened but I was never the same after that day. Freakin unreal how good these bunch of musicians really were !
Gary Rossington is the most wicked guitarist I've ever seen and in this song he's at his best!! What an image, cool and steady and at easy I LOVE THAT GUY!!!
Nothing today compairs to the level of the skill the band members had back then. Anyone with ears can pick up the subtle details each member contributes. You just don't see that anymore and they represent what is lacking in our music today. All we are left with is a tone def audience that would rather play with their I-phones and a music industry that could care less about quality.
More and more these days, the greatness and genius of Lynyrd Skynyrd is talked and revered about under the same breath as Jimmie Rodgers, Robert Johnson, Hendrix and Elvis Presley!!
there is not a band better than the origanal skynyrd to ever walk on stage.the two people that put they down they dont like this song is either crazy or from new york.
@mcgaheefamily I take great offense to your comment. I was born and raised in New York, and i idolized Skynyrd along with all of my friends! I play guitar because of their music and will always cherish their music along with my family. Ronnie's dream was to play MSG in New York!
I remember October 1977. The word came over on the radio. I was in eighth grade art class. I still believe to this day that the CIA had a hand in that plane crash. Skynyrd was so popular, it was making our young minds mush. Thank the feds for my 3 years regular army infantry. Thank the VA hell yes, and social security. Just line up to get robbed

Good jam. Sounds a lot like the Allman Brothers Band's version of 'One Way Out' though. Skynyrd was much more fake than the Allman Bros or any other blues bands, but still, they had a few good tunes.
haha are you fucking serious? skynyrd blows those bands out of the water by a mile. fake? they are WAY more real than the allmans will ever hope to be.
Way more real, eh? Firstly, look at how these faggots are dressed, and secondly, listen to any other song that isn't "Call Me the Breeze" and it fucking sucks.
Give it your best shot. Although, I'm not impressed with someone who has a PhD in the study of mediocre music.
And by the way, Free Bird was a song with terrible lyrics, a very boring first five minutes, and an overrated solo that anyone could play with their eyes closed.
I would gladly show you if I had any type of video camera to record it with.
But you don't need to a camera to lay down some "throbbing Lynyrd Skynyrd expertise" so SLAUGHTER IT already, bitch! Unless, of course, you just don't know what the fuck you're talking about.
It is funny how in there is at least one grammar error in every comment you leave me. Remember these are the guys who blew the Rolling Stones off of the stage and who opened for The Who and Ted Nugent without being booed off of the stage which in themselves are great musical achievements. Anyway, like I said earlier I have no interest in wasting my time with you. If you don't believe that I know my Skynyrd trivia, look in the comments of almost every Lynyrd Skynyrd related video posted here.

Ted Nugent was another relatively talentless musician, though I can't see why a southern band like Skynyrd would ever be opening for The Who.
Anyway, if you really believe that Skynyrd was a "great" band who actually had some meaningful music, I really can't take you seriously. Cheap southern rock, for the most part.
How are they not a serious band? That is the most ignorant statement I've ever heard. Haha. You're a complete fool. They worked harder than any other band ever. He says " Asbury Park that's the way it's supposed to be!" Then he says " oh play that guitar" and Gary Rossington plays his Les Paul like only he can play it! This show is being filmed at Asbury Park NJ so Ronnie was just giving a shout out to the crowd, or he was just telling those Springsteen loving yankees that this is the way music is supposed to be.
Hell, Man NOBODY in SKYNYRD before or since was as Good as Steve Gaines he was on a different level than everybody else. Even Ed King said:..STEVE GAINES PARTS ARE A BEAR. I bet he never bitched about learning mine like I bitched about learning his...GREAT wasn't the word for Steve Gaines.
Ronnie Van Zant said that Lynyrd Skynyrd will one day live in Steve Earl Gaines' shadow, and if it wasn't for the plane wreck on October twentieth, nineteen seventy-seven, his prediction would've been proven as correct.
RVZ knew he had a special talent in Steve and decided to let him shine on "Street Survivors"..one can only imagine what Steve and Ronnie would be doing today...There is no doubt in my mind that Steve would be doing his own thing..He had just TOO MUCH MUSIC to offer...Shame..he was the BEST GUITARIST Skynyrd ever had...
Indeed. I disagree that Steve would being doing solo projects currently if he were around to but everything else, in my opinion, is a valid statement. Steve Gaines might not have been the best guitarist, vocalist, and lyricist in the history of individuals in that field, but he is my favorite musician of all time.
@petebradt It was a lucky break for Skynyrd & Gaines to play together. He was an exceptional player/picker but do not forget that he walked into a signature sound architected by Gary & Allen. How convenient was that! Who would have ever known of Gaines had he not played in Skynyrd? Stevie had exceptional style and blended with Skynyrd to enhance electricity. Stevie wasn't in his own house man. He was playin in Lynyrd Skynyrd's House!

(R.I.P) Ronnie, Allen, Steve, Leon, Cassie Dean, and Hughie Thomasson the Outlaw Man, who was not just a friend, but a memember for 9 years....SWAMP MUSIC YALL....
Thats because today its all about style and fashion. If you are cute and can wear Gucci or have your britches down around your ass and a bunch of bling in your teeth, then, only then, by todays standards you are cool. When you dont have talent you have to make up for it by an image and that my musical friends is sad. Skynyrd were a bunch of high school redneck drop outs that had a dream and they lived that dream by, hard work, and hard times, and many hours spent at HELL HOUSE in the swamps!!!!!
The Beatles were gifted but they couldn't jam like that. The Fab Four also had something else working against them. They were undeniably foreign, aliens from a far away land, and they talked funny. You see, Skynyrd is part of the American experience, a piece of our culture and musical history. If you happen to be like me and hail from or have ties to the Confederate States then it gets in your blood. It becomes part of who you are, and what you stand for. Not to mention music that you can't top!
Dedicate this to the QB of the 2011 New Orleans Saints, an outstanding year regardless of coming up just short in a remarkably amazing playoff game against the 49ers!

I've only heard their main hits that are played on the radio. You've got...
-Call Me the Breeze (good song!)
-Free Bird (okayy song)
-That Smell or whatever (stupidest song of all time)
-Three Steps (decent, still kinda stupid)
-Sweet Home Alabama (pretty good song)
The rest, I'm sure, are probably garbage and not worth listening to anyway.. May be wrong, but I doubt it. Not a very serious band.
