  • Nice vid like always

  • ah! the sun is a black hole! that was really cool

  • cool

  • That is really badass. Nice job.

  • Why not put some small inrunner motors , alerons and make that thing really fly !

  • u need to put airlerons on it to do more 3-d flights

  • you have the same transmitter that i have.

  • I just got one of these for $10.

Now waiting on a battery and charger from ebay.

  • where did u get it from?

  • Got it from an "As seen on TV" store. It had been sitting in there for *months*. I made a comment on it and they guy told me to make him an offer. I said $20, and he countered with "Make it $10 and it's yours." So I got an excellent deal on a great little aircraft.

  • Do they make a 12v DC charger for the Storm Launcher battery?

  • No, but I put a cigarette lighter connector on one of my chargers, hooked it to the car and it works good, as the charger wall adapter is 12vdc out.

  • I had the same idea and consulted one of my freinds who is an engineer (a very smart man) and he said that using a voltage inverter (12v DC to 120v AC) would be a better idea and that it would prevent frying the battery if the car was running and the voltage was higher.

  • Good idea.

  • yo where do you get these storm launchers?

  • that has to be the sweetest thing ever. now i wanna go buy one and do that. why didnt the rudder in the middle work?

  • Not enough wind over it or enough forward speed.

  • my storm launcher's props keep hitting the waster, and it turns off every now and them after about 10 min. worth of play...please help.

  • Hand launch it will be best and land on the water when low on bat. 10 minutes it the safe cutoff time built into the RX to keep the battery from getting ruined. It takes a little finesse to get it up "on the step" to keep the props from hitting.

  • Not worth the effort and can easily be broken off, but do increase lift.

  • you should look at Canadian tire, they already made one! They call it the stelth.Same Idea, just shorter and wider.

  • You mean the Mini? I have several and have videos of it too.

  • No Its something all together different. Its black and the call it a stelth.I think Ive seen it at Londen drugs too!

  • can u fly more than one at a time together if they are stock sl's

  • Yes, if they are on different radio frequencies. There are only 2 frequencies available.

  • Just got into this stuff (Air Hogs), I know kinda on the downward slope, as they getting hard to find because they are old, not because they are new. I've enjoyed your videos, and although the performance doesn't justify the cost of your mods, they're fun and cool to view. Within the last month I have gone from Air Hog beginner to having mini helicopter and two decent sized planes (non-Air Hog) and am excited about it all. Just joined AMA and your vids helped get me to this point. Thanks.

  • Well thanks very kindly sir. I appreciate your comments. I know you will enjoy the hobby and hope you continue for life, as I have. Best regards.

  • you inspired me to experiment with my SL

  • Good. Go for it. Thanks.

  • It might, but since steering is done by motor controls, there is no place to put another servo. I did this to prove a point, but in no way did it really improve it that much over the stock SL, which can take far more abuse than my flimsy wings can in a crash. Good thinking, tho. Take care.

  • do you think you could put alerons some how. maby cut the black horizontal stablizer in half and put servos with controll horns on each so they both move independantly. would that work?

  • Thanks, but the stock SL really does a fairly good job all by itself too.

  • another reason why it's good to fly in winter is cuz of cold dence air which greatly reduces take off lenth

  • Very true.

  • how long can a full charge last? and how long to charge? pm me when u know

  • 10 minutes if your conservative to fly. 30 to 60 minutes to charge. Best to buy a couple of extra batteries, in my opinion.

  • nice video

could you please do somthing on the mini xpv

  • Thanks. Not much can be done with the xpv. Sorry.

  • how long will these things fly on a single charge

  • 8 or so minutes wide open.

  • thanks alot eh, and good videos, you sure know your stuff

  • Thank you much.

  • i just bought one and it tends to steer funny, you must give it a little bit of throttle to steer, but when there is too much throttle it wont steer. is that how it is suppose to be?

  • I also did not have the rear tube in the center of it. new model?

  • Yes that tube was eliminated on the newer models, as it caused airflow drag problems.

  • Yes, it takes differential steering to control them. IT takes a bit of practice. In the expert mode, the motors work better for steering, but it is very easy to stall it with the elevator, so I always fly in the Novice mode. I turn by backing off the throttle just a bit then the motors will respond better. This is a very unusual flying machine, so it takes some unusual controls to fly it.

  • Thanks for the info! Nice job. Really nice job on the rudders

  • Thanks kindly.

  • great lookin mods!!! i was toying with the idea of adding some wongs to my SL, and a user on RCGroups pointed me to your vids.... what kind of flight times are you getting with your current setup?

  • Thanks kindly. I am getting about 8 minutes on the modified one, because I can slow down a little more and use less power, since it will now glide too.

  • Thanks for the fun and information!

  • Your welcome. Thanks for the comment.

  • looks sick and tricked out

  • Thanks.

  • why is there a black spot in the centre of the sun when he pointed the camera at it?

  • That is caused by the camera. Most digital cameras do that with totally bright light, as it overloads the ccd sensor in the camera.

  • ok,thanks

  • Thanks for the video...I really enjoyed it.

  • Thanks kindly. Stay tuned for more along this line.

  • Do you know where to get extra propellers and parts?

  • e mail spinmaster(.)com

  • yp i know this doesnt have to do with sl, but do u have any mods for the aerosoar mini air hogs cause id like to c some mods on how to make it take off and land. And a better motor

  • I don't know anything about that one as I dont have one. sorry.

  • how come when i got my sl a few days ago, on the box it had the thing on the top of it (the thing your rudder is attatched to) but the stock one didnt come with that. What is it?

  • They changed them as an improvement and that has been eliminated due to drag.

  • Well Dave my motors are cuttin off too fast just like what your talkin bout in the video plus 10 fett distance between myself and the plain isent what the box said plus i want to mount the servos for rudder control

  • You should get a new battery it sounds like to me. Call Spinmaster and tell them the problem. The new ones do not have the airscoop. It was an improvement that Airhogs made to the later ones. Not to worry.

  • hey dave Im checkin out the hitek laser 4, 4 channel on tower hobbies good choice for SL?

  • No. The SL comes with a radio that mixes both motors just right You cant do that with the Hitec. Why are you changing radios?

  • Hey flyer i just bout my new SL and gave complete charge but i couldent get it off the ground what am i doin wrong ???also it doesent seem to turn at ALL on the ground just goes straight what am i doin wrong ,trimm doesent work!

  • Do the motors sound like the ones in the video responses above, and just under this video. Have yo looked at them. Maybe they will help.

Is the TX on with a good light and the antenna all the way extended. You may have to return it. This is a FuLL size SL, your talking about, right?

  • yea fullsize SL i had it up for about 10 secoonds all it does is stall but other then that the motors sound great clear difference between the two turing while you hold it but not on the ground?i Watched all your mods and home movies great stuff.....

  • Try trimming it for a bit more down, and use only the novice mode. The elevator moves a lot, compared to the TX stick and it takes a while to learn to not stall and get it "up on the Step", to fly..Thanks for the kudos.

  • why are you spending so much time and money on this garbage plane boat thing? no offense but it seems like its goin nowhere. get a helicopter or an actual plane.

  • Guess you haven't seen any of my other videos!

I have already had what you say I need. These things are fun. Really really fun.... and that is why I am flying them. I am having fun. Same on you.

  • Hey how ya doin?I see you like moding planes.I have a Plane also but i cant find ne thng about it on google????Jetscream ?????Do you know ne thing bout it?

  • Not sure if it is out yet. Airhogs makes it. Try their website. Spinmaster(.)com

  • Dave, just love your videos and info/mods of the SL!

Could not find one in Canada - did find the mini, which we flew at work and all over the place.

Today, the 23rd, finally heard that Walmart near Vancouver BC had them, and bought TWO SL's - for the amazing price of $29 each! (Thats about $28.99 USD.)

    The Lipos were $9.

Charging right now, and hope to start breaking the motors in tomorrow - then its on to the mods and some flying!

  • Good for you. Glad you got them. Heck of a price too!

  • walmart at lougheed mall right?i go there all the time and awsome price saw them too

  • Very great videos! liked them alot!

Was wondering if you can still do loops and such with your newly highly modified configuration? I am thinking of buying one of these just to play with, I dont have a good radio like you... i want to get used to it first in its stock configuration - thanks for the great entertainment!

    Kenny

  • Ha ha. Thanks a lot. Don't mess with the wings. But do remove the prop shrouds and the tail fin. Just cut them off with side cutters, so you don't have to pull the props off. You will have lots of fun. See my latest SL video, "Are they worth it", where I recommend only flying it in Novice mode, even when you get good. Have fun...

  • Yeah i just bought one ans i think it totally worth it, it works great whitout any modification, lots of fun... i'm getting better flying ans for 29 $ can, you got to get one of these!! :P sry for my bad english, i'm french lol

  • does the storm launcher turn well with out the mods u did on it

  • I turns the same, as it turns by speeding up or down the motors. It just has less power with the prop shrouds. You will rarely break a prop in a crash unless you hit a corner of a table or something.

  • or if you crash on hard snow, i broke one lately. but if so it looks hard to break one with the guards

  • is the SL made of foam or plastic ? also does the SL have wheels?

  • NO wheels and made of foam that is easily fixed with hot melt glue. Take a look at my latest video.. Stormlaunchers revisited, are they worth it?

  • Do you know wether the storm launcher is compatible with the european electricity system for recharging and things like that?

  • That should be able to be handled with a portable converter. However I am sure they make chargers to do that in Europe. Keep me informed.

  • I would LOVE to buy one but they don't ship them abroad it seems, and I can't really make a trip to america just to buy one :(

  • Nice really smart! But I wouldnt reccomend flying in below 30 degree weather it weakends the engine.

  • Thanks. Heck, we flew them in the snow a lot, and the motors seem to keep going and going.

I also squirt the motors with a drop of WD40 periodically.

  • maybe air hogs should use your mods to perfect the storm launcher and sell it as the super dave storm launcher.

  • Thanks. Well, I have been copied before on my rc ideas, so they will probably just do it if they want. I appreciate the comments too. I do know they have seen the vids.

  • I admire your ingenuity! Nice mods!

    +k-

  • Thank you kindly. Yep, I like to prove things to myself, especially when someone doubts it.

    Never give up, right?

  • id prefer to keep it stock from the factory =P

  • Your right. I just wanted something with more control, so had to experiment you know. This was simply my findings.

  • you can get more stable control by putting it on begginer mode

  • uhmmmmm... why not just buy a rc plane...??

    but great creativity

  • Well, if youve seen any of my other videos, you must know I have had or now have way too many planes and helicopters, all mostly gas. Sometimes, it is fun to be creative as you say. Thanks.

  • Loved your video's Nightflyer.Very creative. Keep us entertained.

    TonyM

  • Thank you kindly.

  • this is all cool but can you do a video showing how to make the wings change radio exectera

  • Do you have any other airplanes. Such as the Hyper Flyer? I would like to know info on that one. Thanks!

  • I have lots of planes, mostly gas. I invented the Hyperfly for Kyosho, if that is what you are talking about. There is a picture of it in my video, "I don't need no stinkin' tail rotor". I have the first one still in a box signed by Aki Suzuki, President of Kyosho.

  • What video and do you fly it? Thnaks!

  • Look at my videos, and look for the one. "I don't need no stinkin' tail rotor". Yes, I fly one of the others, but not the very first autographed one. That is for my archives and collection.

  • bu ne lan böyle

  • i really like these modifications...it makes the storm launcher looks so much better...really well thought out

  • Thanks.....I don't know about well thought out, just first impulse. Ha ha..

  • A fine example of being creative. You are a good pilot, I know your average "dumb thumbs" couldn't fly that crate, Thumbs up for making it happen.

  • Thank you much.

  • hi i bought a havoc heli and it also came with a broken propeller. i bought it at zellers for 34.99 and i want to know if i can exchange it there or do i have to get it done from spin master. you as well got a mini storm launcher with a broken propeller so can i as well? ty

  • I do not work for Airhogs, or Spinmaster, so am not in a position to do anything except advise you. If you have a legitimate problem, then email them from their website, (spinmaster (dot) com. I am sure they will help.

  • very good of a job , im gelious , lol

  • Thanks.

  • very nice

  • Thanks kindly.

  • How Much Do thay cost

  • Target sells them for $69

  • The same with me i had 2 xpv and the props never broke but i have a sl and it broke also

  • I Have 3 Questions (1) Can You Buy Parts In The Stores (2) How To Change The Radio (3)Can you buy a turbo

  • Cant buy parts. Cant buy a turbo. Radios depend on the brand and each installation is different. If you can get it in there, that is the first part of the challenge.

  • hi.what type of glue do you use to repair your SL thank you in advance

  • I use Hot melt glue and also reinforce the sides (by the pontoons) with clear tape to beef it up.

  • ha ha haaa haaaaaaaa

  • Nice Job.

  • Thanks a lot!

  • that was sweet .you must be a flight engineer or whatever

  • Thank you. Trial and Error....that is how I learn..

  • kinda long but otherwise those were some hardcore mods

  • Stock Stormlaunchers come with spare props and a tool to remove them. If you cant find them, go to Spinmaster Dot Com, click on contact us, then write of your dilemna.

  • Your A Good helper.

  • Thanks.

  • i have a question:do u make it go in the air manually or does it go by its self

  • You have to pull back on the elevator stick to make it go up and down.

  • oh ok thanks

  • Hey I got a question.... My second storm launcher doesnt fly up high...Is it the horiz that i took off....or the 12 mph wind

  • It's Not the Horizontal. If you can't fly substantially faster than the wind, it will not go up. Cut off the Prop guards, if you haven't already. Mine flew better after breaking the motors in with a couple of batteries.

  • What is a guru? Great mods they were awesome

  • Good video

Have you tried using elevons yet? Looks like you have a radio system cabable of mixing. I would ditch the rudders, cut the elevator down the middle and use them as elevons with 2 servos mounted in the rear. Having a small wingspan should allow a fast roll rate. Elevons act as ailerons and rudders combined.

    Good Luck

  • Thanks. I thought about ailerons too, when the rudder wasnt very effective, but actually have gone back to the original and even have the Mini, now with no elevons, elevator or rudder! And it is actually fun too.

    Thanks again.

  • Hey Dave, I have a new SL i bought from Ebay. Im having a problem! The elevator does not move fully in the Asend posistion, but dose moves fully in the desend posistion.First i widend the servo bar path thinking it was binding, Nope! I looked at the servo arm and it is not rotating fully to one side. It's slow and laboring! seller says "As Is" and their's no waranty card! Can i get alittle help?

    Tx. Phil.. munie1 @ optonline . net

  • Try bending the rod. Have you tried to fly it yet?

  • hey how do you get the battery out of your storm launcher mine is hard...plz respond

  • PUll the black plastic up away from the bottom, (it won't break) Then yank it out towards the rear..

  • hows it going fellas. sl mini has no moveable controll surfaces. I bought it when I couldnt find the full size one.

  • that rudder mod is badass!

  • Havent got the mini yet, so cant comment. The stock SL is plenty fast so you can see if you have watched my other video, "Not enough power, wrong!"

You can definitely get in trouble with it if it gets ahead of you, but if your an experienced RC pilot, no problem.

  • thats cooll and what are the wings made of????

  • They are made from Foam from an old electric airplane's wing tips.

  • really cool, i have seen them and thought about buying one but wondered how they would do modified, been into rc for about 20 years

  • you should try to put alerons on it too...it would perform way better...i did it myself

  • Too much work to put on ailerons (send me a pic JB to see how you did it)because this little thing (that is like flying a piece of cardboard) turns well with the rudder or the stock motors. I just decided to mess around and modify, ya know. I fly my stock one every chance I can get, so to ME, it was worth getting.

  • do you know if the mini or the original is faster?

  • i think the mini

    (smaller and lighter)

  • you wont be able togo on ewarter now..will trash that servo...but still fuckin kool

  • That was totally awsome. You sure know your planes. You've convinced me into getting one too.

  • You should have your own heli mods show. Thanks much for sharing your knowledge!

  • I have not looked at the motors but know they do a fine job without the prop guards. Changing them may not be worth it if youre new to flying. If the SL went into the bay and salt water, it may not work well ever! If fresh water, the controller should be ok, but the armature in the motors & servo could be rusting on you. Putting brushless motors in & new speed controller is pricey when youre learning. You might want to invest in a small park flyer to get some flying experience first.

  • yeah youre right about the rusting...The motors did rust, so thats why I bought the 180s...But i think the S.Controller shorted out and isnt allowing full throttle...Ive been flying my girls SL really well, great landings and no crashes. So I might put the 180s and see how it goes. Thanks so much for your info. A park flyer might just be my next investment, but I do like the hydroplanes :o)

  • one more question is the SL the best rc machine around

  • NightFlyyer, do you ave any idea what motors are in the stock SL...I bought some 180's and Im hoping theyre stronger...I installed them on my 1st SL and well they work, but not too strong, actually weaker, but I also think the speed controller may not be stron enough or it was damaged from a crash in the bay, was submerged for 3 mins. Whats your take? any thought would help. I want to go brushless motors, yet im new to all this and cant go too hardcore on the mods. Thanks

  • Well another Awesome showing... Well worth the wait, keep up the goos work.

  • I have, thanks. Your right, they scoot. I haven't decided to try that yet, as these motors seem to fly it pretty good so far....but you never know what I will try next! Ha ha. I have the camera mounted on it and am just waiting for a good day to try it. Stay tuned.

  • man that was awsome one question how much money did u spend on thoes mods??

  • I had all the stuff, so it cost me nothing. I can't say it is the best machine around, but for me, I can say, it is a totally satisfying machine and lots of fun.

  • could you control it well when u first bought it? is it worth getting

  • NICE! I wish you could send us some of that snow. Looks like yall got plenty of it layin around. Have you seen any of videos with the storm launcher with the brushless motors?? Man those things will scoot.

  • Talk about a monster mod:)

    Great job:)

  • Thank you, I flew it just as you saw it, and guess maybe 4 minutes. I am using a Tanics Packs 780ma LiPo. It may run longer in warmer weather. I plan to fly it next time with my camera on board and will time it.

  • Congratulations on your successful design changes. and bye the way how long does that battery last?

  • Great job on your mods....Love watching your videos, always fun. Keep them coming.
