@jimjr155 Yes, I've heard that as well. The first time I noticed it was probably when I heard Olivia sang the Dolly Parton song "Jolene," which you can find on YouTube.

She's every red-blooded Aussie male's fantasy from 30-70. Her talent stretched thru 3 generations, from when she first appeared on Aussie tv as a teen years before worldwide fame hit with Grease! She will forever be in the hearts of millions of Aussies that will always be proud of "Our Livvy" !!
One of the last great eras of real, talented pop singers. I mourn for the young generation that has to grow up with the tripe that gets promoted now. Zero staying power as a previous comment stated, that is what current pop music has. Pardon me if I get a little insulting as well by saying that not one currently popular mainstream pop act has an ounce of talent, least of all when compared to past stars like Olivia Newton John, the Pointer Sisters, Jennifer Rush, ABBA, Stevie Nicks, etc.
The Pointer Sisters! The oldest 2 of the 3 of them, were in thier mid-30's when Jump/etc were huge. There's NO WAY anybody in thier 30's could "burst" onto the scene anymore. It may make a 32 yr old sound dated, but most of today's music has ZERO staying power: you know, the type parents and kids listen to years later. Here one day, gone the next. I remember my parents loving oldies, hated most of the 70's stuff, but loved the 80's stuff: it's what I grew up on. They were, SHOCK, in thier 30's
@tigersden28majors and theres the heart of the problem. you said it. though ive heard a couple kids with descent voices, they sound exactly as theyre supposed to.. KIDS xd. a seasoned adult with a fine singing voice is much more appealing to me than any child.. plus youll note all these kids are monolouged and sings with the assistance of computers.. and most their videos usually feature an adult any damn way..xd i miss the good ol days
Between 1978 and 1983, it would hard to argue against her being the biggest/hottest/most recognized/successful female artist in the world. I agree that Physical must have been overplayed(it's not even in my top 10 ONJ songs). But when you look at the Grease songs.....then Xanadu/Magic, and top that with Make a move on me/Heart Attack......it just CAN'T get any better than that. Look at the 80's: Kenny, Lionel, ONJ, Bruce, ....you could be in your 30's, and be HUGE, if you made great songs
my sister played the shit out of Greatest Hits Vol 2...i went thru a period where i wanted nothing to do with this poppier stuff, because it was always around me as a kid...i think what brings me back to this fluff is maybe where i was as a kid at that time, what i was doing...the thing with ONJ is that she always looked great in video or film, even as the background was sort of crumbling behind her in cheese...
@jimjr155 ...the guitar is buried in this song, but the 80s were also a time when the guitar solo met light pop...some of the crunchiest guitar came out of songs like Sunglasses At Night...i think also the early 80s stuff she did was more "organic" pop than the mid-80s stuff she did...i mean "living in desperate times" is pretty horrible (and it sounded like a reject from The Breakfast Club -- loved the movie, but have you heard the soundtrack??? -- except simple minds...
@jimjr155 if i'm subjected to a tired pop radio station, i try to focus on something redeeming in the song, like maybe the production is tight, the bass is crisp etc...you have to or you go crazy...every style of music has the cream that rises to the top...
I love Olivia, but this video (other than having Olivia in it) is pretty bad. I really have to laugh at some of the 80's videos. Now don't get me wrong, some of them were great, and the music was definitely much better than the over produced crap of today, but some of the videos were really cheesy. The keyboard player in this video is really cracking me up. What an idiot. The guy almost single-handedly ruins the video.
I'm wondering is the band member at second 53 in the video insinuating something that's a bit too racy for a performance from the 80's, or do I just have a dirty mind? lol.
PHYSICALLY speaking, for the most part, I am mostly attracted to a few blonds, since mostly I am attracted to brunets much more. However, this is definitely an exception. My goodness, this woman is just cute, sweet, pretty and her outfit in this video makes her look beautiful.
i came up with a theory that involved the book of genesis (fig leaves) buddha (sitting under the bodhi fig tree) jesus (many sayings about figs) ross horne's book ( new health revolution) and science (figs are the most important source of foods for fruit eating rainforest animals). this theory has gone all around the world. i then experimented on the figs by eating mainly dried figs for years and found cyles in the figs which i related to the numbers found in chps 11/12 of book of revelations.
This should have been another massive hit/classic....people probably wanted a break for awhile from her after Physical was the only song played anywhere on earth for the prior six months
Rumors that the keyboard player ate the rest of the band after the performance are completely untrue and 100% made up by me, but are fun to believe nonetheless.
This was such a happy song in my heart in the 80's, and made it pretty ok feeling to express myself too... though it took a while for me to say it like it is, a LONG while... but I've always hated spotlight and interference, sheez.
This is one of my fave ONJ songs along with Magic. This was during her "Physical" days in the mid 80's. I still prefer the long blonde hair look from ONJ than the short-haired look but still a very sexy woman who can sing!
What I find funny is that the lyrics to this song are the same thing the keyboard player probably said before doing that line of coke before this set.
@dtybur73 He's probably destroyed as many copies of this video as possible, alas, Youtube came along and ruined it all. Now his ass is on display for the entire internet to see! Olivia's performance saved the day, as cheesy as this video is, she's still sexy as hell.
@mustwinder Yeah, she saves the video. What's even worse for this keyboard player is the fact a website is dedicated to him. If you search "Olivia Newton John keyboard player", there is a few pages that make fun of him. How embarrassing! I wonder if this guy is even a keyboard player. He looks like a wannabe agent or something who filled in on keyboards for the video.
Back in 1984 Aboard the BelleWood were got to put the ships video on during the slow watches in the amphib comm center. This was one of the faves for cutting the boredom & you could count on it at least once during watch. Bannana Ramma was the other : )
@shmuli9 Yes. And, it did! But, by that time, she was 40--You know what? Just ignore my immature, shallow, superficial whining. Nobody wants to hear it. Number one, it was 29 years ago, when I was one or two years old. And, number two, I only recently became a fan, when I watched Xanadu on television. "Xanadu" is really funny! I wateched that about 10 years ago with a group of friends, and how we laughed.
I saw Olivia a few years aho in concert, and she STILL looks good. Like Sally Field, she gets older, but she doesn't exactly AGE, which sound bizarre, but I hope you know what I mean...
@shmuli9 She may have been 35 when "Make a Move on Me" came out. But, when I play the song, lie down and close my eyes, I imagine she was 25. And, if my facts are off, so be it.

THIS A GREAT SONG I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY THEY NEVER PLAY ON FM RADIO OR MTV. OLIVIA WAS VERY SEXY IN HER TIME IT'S A SHAME WE HAVE TO GET OLD I HAD TOTALLY FORGOTTEN ABOUT THIS SONG TILL I RAN IN TO IT 3 MONTHS AGO ON UTUBE fr. 10/15/2010 7:22 am
@FatherTimeST1300 In theory, everything you said sounds wonderful, except the last part. That is if you meant it in a Hannibal Lector sort of way. If not, then your lady is the lucky one, LOL!
this woman is sexy as hell. damn, i wish my generation had music & hot-ass women like this. and my lord, did you see the freaky, sexy move she did at 2:53 ? yummy...
WOW.. i thought the title of this one looked familiar.. i can remember i summer full of poolside listening to this song and others of the time... god.. radio was so good once upon a time...... btw was that Michael Winslow of Police Academy fame at 1:32 ??
I think Olivia Newton=John still looks good after all these years, just wish she'd give up the botox on her lips, other than that she is awesome, loved her since I was 5
talent, beauty and as any fourty something guy here, my first and still favorite crush. Someone should tell the new crop of singers that you dont need to be half nude like they are if you have any talent like this lady does! love you olivia....
I don't know what is it. I just love 1980's music and Olivia Newton John is one of those artists. The synth sounds are just awesome too. And this song has such a groovy style and her voice is like the best! Or maybe I'm just old?
OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN is at her seductive BEST in this video, and most of the comments are about the nameless, faceless KEYBOARD player in the video? People.....
my dad loved her.he passed away 7 years ago at the age of 47.and he always wanted to see her in concert.i still love her.and hope to see her in concert one day' love and miss you dad!
I remember in class in high school one day when this song came out, Diane Prior said the other day she played this song over and over she liked it so much, then later on I managed to tape it off the radio and did the same thing. Still love that song.
Would definitely make a move on Olivia back then.

@FatherTimeST1300 In theory, everything you said sounds wonderful, except the last part. That is if you meant it in a Hannibal Lector sort of way. If not, then your lady is the lucky one, LOL!

I don't know what is it. I just love 1980's music and Olivia Newton John is one of those artists. The synth sounds are just awesome too. And this song has such a groovy style and her voice is like the best! Or maybe I'm just old?
IsaakNitnoy 1 year ago 3
OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN is at her seductive BEST in this video, and most of the comments are about the nameless, faceless KEYBOARD player in the video? People.....

I remember in class in high school one day when this song came out, Diane Prior said the other day she played this song over and over she liked it so much, then later on I managed to tape it off the radio and did the same thing. Still love that song.
