Jason, you have the speed, but your meter is sloppy (evident when you started playing to the metronome click). The shiny cymbals, cage, and special configuration is a nice visual effect, but that's not everything to everyone. Keep that in mind next time you want to show off.

That little "Jazz" and "Latin" part shows best what I mean. The dynamics and the feeling is what makes a great Jazz drummer a great Jazz drummer. And he doesn't have any.

I could understand people's beef with him if he was an arrogant prick or something, but he's not.

Jason's not even on my top-25 best metal drummers, so I almost feel like it's unfair for him to be put in the position of showing up on behalf of the best metal drummers. Shadows Fall is a really popular band and because of that he won the award. That's kind of like of expecting Derek Jeter to represent all of baseball by hitting home runs. He's popular but not that good.

@ToTheConquered So, Jason shows up, and he knows he's not the greatest drummer, is put in the position of being surrounded by all these other better drummers. Ultimately, Jason is the perfect drummer for his band, but he's not really a virtuoso. Sure other drummers are better than him, but they won't win awards because they can't coordinate a band like Jason does with Shadows Fall. If anything, I blame the way Modern Drummer selects its winners, not the people who win the award.
