AWESOME! Those kids are 100% right: lunch times are too short these days. When I was in middle school (in the late 90's), I got an hour every single day. In elementary school, we got an hour lunch PLUS a half hour morning recess AND a 15 minute afternoon recess. Also, in both school every single Friday was a half day. Heck, even in high school we got a full hour for lunch. My fiancee teaches 4th grade, and they're lucky if they get a half-hour recess once a WEEK. I'm homeschooling my kids.

its all just about administration pushing their weight around and making an example out of these kids. If you keep one set of kids in line a majority of the rest will follow b/c they will see what happens when a minor infraction is commited and will be less likely to step out of line and commit one themselves. Of course there will always be a few students who wont give a shit if they get in trouble, and thus this example of authority will not apply to them.

What I am talking about is time compromise for a lot of students having to take lunch simultaneously, and that is unfair to the whole, rather than only the lunch serving people. It is disrespecting the other students right to have enough time to take their lunch break. In my opinion, that is wrong morally and ethically.

Simple solution: Educate the educators. If they don't want to accept Legal currency in a free market Capitalist society, then don't give them any money. If all the kids brought their lunch for a week, and didn't buy any hot lunch, then all of the food would rot, and maybe the school would then recognize how to treat a paying customer. Also, if the kids were doing it to protest the short lunch, then it was a creative, harmless way to protest. The school is out of line punishing them.

Carrying 200 pennies is only $2.00. Why wouldn't a child have a piggy-bank filled with pennies. I'm not THAT old, but when I was in school, we HAD to use pennies because white milk cost .04 cents and chocolate milk cost .07 cents. So we either paid with pennies or got change in pennies.
