Since that part of the trailer was released before the film was even shot, it makes sense for them to use stock footage of material they already own. I still don't think it's a sequel or a prequel to an existing film even if Elliot was in fact the kid in this shot.

The cast list is out. The "child" is likely a little girl---actress Elle Fanning. Most every movie or tv show J.J. Abrams has his hands in, are not warm fuzzy type stories. Many twists and turns, with psychological/philosophical horror. If this is "Elliot", then something went horribly wrong after E.T. "phoned home".

that was a good guess but that's not elliot. the boy has thinner eyebrows, a highier brow line, wider eyes(which indicate a younger age) and the nostrils of the nose is different than elliot. just play n pause through :45 to :48 and u can see the difference. i still could be wrong but they look different to me. but really good job though if you're right and still thumbs up
