@sondheimisGAWD Ingmar Bergman actually created the characters, and Hugh Wheeler wrote the book for the stage. Sondheim just spiced up his character with lyrics and music.
@tomatoherb To be fair, though, Sondheim had a lot of input into the characters via the lyrics in the songs- he typically has a fair share of collaboration with the librettist on his shows.
@VRNProductions You're right and this is true, but it's sort of a pet peeve of mine that Sondheim seems to get all the credit for every show he is involved in.
@tomatoherb Well, it's true that he's only ever been a collaborator at best (And he's said himself that's what he prefers to be), but often he'll have a large amount of influence on the story and characters of the show, especially when it features a large amount of music. The amount of influence varies from show to show, though (Funny Thing and West Side Story aren't much of his, while Sunday and Sweeney Todd most certainly are), so it's really more a case-by-case basis than anything else.
(Oh dear me.) I prefer the old YouTube method of grading, 1-5 stars, instead of this simplified "Like" or "Dislike". It's too extreme and doesn't leave room for displaying preferences or making comparisons.
I just tried to pause this clip but I couldn't do it. Also the screen wouldn't stop showing those annoying circling white dots. Seriously, YouTube gets more tiresome all the time! Otherwise, this is a fair upload.
@QueenBoadicea So I'm not the only one that has to deal with that from time to time....annoying, itsn't it? Luckily, refreshing the page gets rid of the problem, but still...
I personally prefer the cut song "Bang!," though I don't know where it was origionally to be put. It's on the "Putting it Together" Revue, and is just as military as this. A wonderful song.
If you read the introduction to the song in "Four By Sondheim", it says that this would be where "In Praise of Women" was, as an exhange between Carl-Magnus and Desiree.
This has such an intense lesbian scene at the end.

Oh, Sondheim. The role of Carl-Magnus is the biggest douchebag you have ever created.

Michael Maguire has a great voice. It's weird ... he acted beautifully in Les Mis, but here.... I definitely prefer Laurence Guittard.

@90lysander Who'd he play in Les Mis? (I'm a Les Mis, as well as a Sondheim lover xD)

@emmyaward7 He was Enjorlas in the OBC (as well as the 10th Anniversary Concert).

I'm betting there are a lot of men who like that wrestling scene between Anne and Petra. Woof.
