  • i used a cat thing but the process still worked (^_^)

  • What about fetching a freezbe...I want Jasper to learn that. AND Beg please!!!

  • WHat is the verbal cue you are using? Do you use a hand signal? thanks

  • what if the dog isn't interested in anything you present to them?

  • okay a stupid question

i might get a new dog and it s ganna be a golden retriever is that a great dog to train with??

  • okay two questions :

1-if u dont have a clicker can u make a sound or something that u do that represents a clicker

2-how can i get my dog to follow me and let him not to follow me (hes a pekingese) and hes kinda stuburn :D and alittle old

  • 2 questions:

1: what, exactly, is the verbal cue you are using?

2: what is the point of this exercise, and how will it help you to get your dog to come off leash?

  • WHAT IF U DONT HAVE A CLICKER WITH YOU...HAVE YOU THOUGHT OF THAT??????

  • @ortjose Use a designated word. It's just as effective.

  • Just curious, what cue are you using?

  • this is a great video, and i really enjoy how clear the video and audio are - as well as the steps for each progression in training. keep up the good videos. subscribed, too.

  • It is so awesome to see someone else who knows how to train a dog without yelling or getting mad. It's all about reward!!

  • whats the clickin ting for??

  • @kannywhat. Check previous videos from Tab289, it's a clicker that he uses as a signal that the dog has done something good, and when it does something good it gets a treat.

  • We don't have clicker training in my country. I see that you're holding something which creates a click noise. Can I make that myself or do you have any other suggestions?

My dog is behaving terribly outside, it got to the point I can't walk him anymore because when I put the leash on he doesn't look back and basically runs and drags me. He's a 10 month big golden retriever and we are just miserable the last few months, he's always inside because I don't know how to train him on leash. :(

  • @fenserka You can use a consistent word like "Yes" in place of the click. I talk about this in my questions video. There are a lot of great tutorials on here on Youtube on clicker training loose leash walking that you may find very useful.

  • @tab289 thanks for the response! I'm still watching your videos. I just tried the heel command from your video and he understands it!! Now just to teach him not to pull and we are both going to be happy.

  • @fenserka I've seen people, but a few stones inside an empty can, make a similar sound everytime. not sure though?

  • Thanks!!!!!

  • That was really awesome how she understood to switch to a different frisbee. Great vid

  • This is a great idea for recall practice! Check out my channel for video of my new puppy, Clever. I am working on an intro video for her, but I just put one up of her "Making the Face" at 3 1/2 months. I'm going to add this send to and call back exercise to what I'm working with her. I need to start a journal for her, I'm working so many things with her.

  • Splendid! Just the thing I was looking for! I have a 'thing' I found that I thought 'might come in useful for something someday' and I'm going to use it as the Place marker. When I first saw a tutorial like this I couldn't think of a practical use for it, but now I want to practise recall when it's just me and the dog, and I thought it might also be useful for practising Stay. I've got a question - at one point it sounded like you clicked twice in a row for one treat - was I mistaken?

  • @NormyPie I did, but what I meant to do was mark that with a 'yes' instead. Ideally a click should always be followed by a treat, whereas a yes may or may not...so that was really just a one-off. :-)

  • @tab289 Thanks tab. I asked because I recently watched a PamelaMarxen vid where she has been experimenting with it. I'm still learning clicker training so I'm sticking to the basics for now - treating for every click (except for twice when I got overexcited and did multiple clicks - I ~think~ I got away with it!).

  • I love this exercise! I do it all the time with my dogs :) It's so much fun to see them enjoying running to and from the disks.

Thank you for this video, I just love how Solea looks really eager to come to you when you call her!

  • Nice shaping demo at the beginning of the video. This is so key to understanding how to get your dog to work with you! Small steps and raising the bar as the dog is able to perform! Great job!

  • Thanks for the explanation. I figured that was what you used, and I use that one all the time, as well. It seemed so clear to her, that I wondered if you had taught it as part of the changing places. Obviously, she didn't need a separate lesson!

  • very good but how do I teach my dog the free/break command???

  • Lately my dog has been getting into my cat's litter... Is there a way I can train him not to touch it? I've considered just getting one of those covered litter boxes with a door, but I'm afraid that my dog's head could still fit through the door and he'd still get into it. Do you have any ideas Tab, or anyone else?

  • @crypticprowler You can teach your dog not to, but I would manage the problem. My friends with a cat and a dog put the litter box in a closet then use a door stop to keep it open enough, but not enough for the dog.

  • @c0boy That's an interesting idea...thank you for sharing it with me!

  • @crypticprowler I stopped my dogs from getting into my cats litter box by first using a covered litter box, and then turning the box around so the opening was close to a wall or corner. My cat could still get around to use it, but the dogs could not. Hope this helps : )

  • Another great video Tab! I am going to try these exercises with Jake. I've been trying to strenghten his focus on me outdoors.

Solea is so cute and I loved watching her figure out what it is your asking of her.

  • @JakeVomRivergreen Thanks! I'm sure he'll catch on super-fast.

  • @JakeVomRivergreen I like the little captions that Tab puts on too - like 'this worked in the last video!' lol - it's a good example of how he raises criteria.

  • Great video. I loved the speech bubble where she is like ''But I was rewarded for this before''. Solea is just so smart

  • Great ideas, once again! I couldn't hear very well on the last part. Did you say, "Off, Place" and then cue her by pointing to the new Place(different frisbee)? Do you teach "Off" when you have her leave the '"place" from the beginning? Or add that when it becomes more complex? Thanks for your helpful videos!

  • @azmauigirl I taught the 'off' cue separately. I use it all the time when I need her to get off the bed or the couch. I used it with 'place' for the first time during filming and she seemed to understand. But I'm sure you could teach it in conjunction with 'place' too.

  • Your videos are fantastic and a great help, many thanks. I use clicker training with my choc labrador and he has turned out to be a well behaved dog but i was wondering how long you normally train for each day and how many sessions in a normal day ?

  • @xsimesx Thank you. When Solea was younger we would do between 2 to 4 sessions of about 5-10 minutes each. Now, she can focus for longer so we'll do just 1 or 2, anywhere from 10-40mins! I'm always surprised how long she can concentrate!

  • These are probably the best training vids I've ever been able to work with. Your heeling video really helped me while I was at a parade today. This is definately one I'm going to work on!

  • @gingaakitalover Thanks! :)

  • I'm really glad you showed the part where she kept digging at the bowl. Both of my dogs would keep doing that, but most people who post tutorials don't show how to solve it, let alone that their dogs do it. Rock on :)

  • great video
