Is the induction hob hot when you turn it off? Is it just the heating area that heats up (radiation from the pan bottom to the hob surface?) or is the area round the outside hot too. I just ask as I;'ve seen some videos of the half-frying pan, induction frying an egg thing and I'm not bsure how it works.
@mcs1hr After switching off, it's only warm where pan was placed & nowhere else. Also during cooking as heat can only be generated where there is a magnetic pan (such as stainless steel) in contact with induction hob. That's why you see the egg only cooking inside the 'half-frying' pan. If you put your hand on hob & turned on, there'd be no heat too.
UPDATE: The same saucepan/water on the gas hob took 3min 14sec compared to 1min 35secs on the induction hob to reach approx boiling point!
@mcs1hr Fair point that the lid of the kettle should be on. However, the pan would also then need to have a lid and that would make comparing the first to boil quite difficult. If anything though, the kettle is more enclosed and therefore should heat faster than the open saucepan. To get an exact comparison, I'll time the same saucepan on the gas and post the speed result here.
very impressive!!!

This is very interesting - does your induction hob make any noise? I found that some I've viewed tend to hum a bit when two or more zones are in use

@mcs1hr Hi there, yes most induction hobs do hum slightly when in use but I can't say that I find it distracting in any way.

@InductionHobs my samsung induction range also hums, i read that it is just apart of the technology and is normal.
