How old are you? I was there that day in 1984 when this video was shot and we called it "moshing". Whatever you want to call it is OK with me, but that is what we called it on that day in 1984. My guess is that you are in your late 20's or early 30's like most punk rock experts. Slam away!
Most of these internet punk rock experts are actually in the late teens to mid 20s. @SlugUseless Were you in the band then? If so, thank You, sir. That was seriously the best punk show I ever saw, and I saw a bunch of them. I got a shirt at that show that I wore until there was nothing left of it! ha ha. Ahhhh, the good old days...

Nope. They did a piss-take of the Black Flag classic. It was a live favorite. Especially then, before everyone and their shit-heel kids were all sleeved out. Those guys looked like some serious thugs, so their doing that was just awesome. LOUD, too. Still wanna hear it cuz I think it everyday around these Austin hipster dildos...christ...
What?? This band didnt exist in the 80's?? Ya they did. wtf r u talking about?? I am in Phoenix and they were out here for sure. Even gave me a free tshirt. UPS...surrounded by shit. They were cool. @Hungryassjessie Are you saying that UPS physically did not exist in the 1980s, or that they were not popular enough for you to know of them until now? Funny, I knew a bunch of these guys a little bit later - I got to Tucson in October '87, but I hadn't realized they were in UPS! Like Paul, and maybe that other guitarist, who might have been a "Mike"...
it's just a lot of noise and bullshit but I like to watch those stuff once in a while :P
Any type of Rock music is about expressing yourself so really, I can't say anything bad about this video or band but I'll say this: This video should've been on national TV
That's funny that people are complaining about copycat punks today when punks in the US in the '80's were suburban teens copying the fashions of the UK punk movement.
@MrRGanja no its just that punk today sucks ass. but i really don't see y ppl hate Greenday though. I think Greenday is a decent band and musicians compared to most musicians today.
@MrRGanja You're right, they were copying, but that doesn't make them 80's punks from the UK, It's still the root to punk In North America, to punk rock as all the best 90's bands learned from. But I don't recall complaining about anything about back them, just today.
@MrRGanja which is why you look at 90%of 80s US hardcore show photos and it's a bunch of kids with short hair wearing t shirts and/or flannel shirts and jeans and not mohawks, spiky discharge coats and bondage pants etc.
@thereagauze Well, I don't know about that as I was there from the late 70's throughout the entire 80's totally immersed in it, especially hard from 81-87 and I had many many friends with poles, single and double mohawks. But then when we'd get to the really big shows at The Olympic Auditorium there were a hell of a lot more bondage pants, spikes, poles etc than what you saw. However, up to about 1981 it was more like what you explain.....tee shirts, jeans and flannels. A few mohawks though
@Harpgrindin ah west coast, those (you) guys seemed more into the UK side of punk (Pistols/Damned) more than the east coast roots (Ramones) making that early transition to Hardcore so that makes sense. There were some hawks and blue hair out here but mostly dudes dressed like loggers/fisherman, see Minor Threat, the Boston HC bands, NYHC, not a lot of Uk fashion sense there even if they loved Discharge.
@thereagauze You're East Coast, ok. Loggers and fisherman....that's pretty funny. Actually during the big shows is when most put on their "gear" so to speak and during the week it was a bit more casual. That brings me to your point UK Fashion. I've thought about this alot and in Europe (mainly UK) the unemployment rate was always fairly high, so someone could wear poles or a mohawk 7 days a week and they were taking care of by the social minded government. In the US we have to work.
No way man, UK punks ripped off American bands like the Ramones, NY Dolls, Iggy Pop. There was a helluva lot of inner city punk in US cities in the '70s and '80s. It was a great time.
@pfl95 I dunno man, I still listen to Sum 41 and Thrice, two of my older favorites, but they just sold out hard core I guess. I don't blame them though, with all the downloading and stuff these days you have to come to the general public's call ya' know? Sum 41 got rid of brown sound and Thrice for some reason decided one day they aren't even going to play their old stuff anymore.. thanks guys lol
This video gets more comments than any other video I have ever worked on in my 25 year career. I have made many clean, polished videos in 25 years. What does this say about us all? It was a fluke that this ever made it to the cable channel back in 1984. No one would put local punk bands on TV then. This was organic culture in Tucson in the 80s. One truly uncensored moment on public TV. No one got paid for it, yet it sparks a fire of social debate to this day. For that it has merit alone. Go UPS!
thats right all you little teeny bops, punk rock used to be about smokin and drinkin and huffin gas and shootin dope. now its all about havin your mom give you 20 bucks to buy a t shirt at hot topic.
@funkymoneylove hey hey hey...your right...BUT!!!... there are a few but only a few (its a shame i know) that are not those fucking posers!!! fuck those kids...the people you discribed are fucking pointless..All fashion, no passion...punk is an attitude, not a fashion....its in your head, not on top of it or on your body.
Is this Larvae from the Gore House days in Maine and late 80's Boston? This is some sick shite. I love it. True punk rock. If so remember the barn show in 89' we played in N.H. where I cut up my chest with razors and pissed all over the other band before us from barn rafters? You were in Vampire Lesbos then. Damn, great times. Cheers.
As far as I know a big part of being so called "Punk" is to do what you want because you love it and want to express yourself at any cost while not selling out for money or popular opinion in the process. As far as I know UPS did this sucsessfully and did not become rich, or sell out for fame. Did the other bands you mentioned do that? We could argue all day, but do they live in nice paid for houses now? I would be interested to know the reality. UPS is Punk, listening to your opinion is not.
This is the faggiest thing I've ever seen...Just because it's from 1984 doesn't mean it's "real". All I see is a bunch of poser fashion punks listening to a band full of poser fashion punks that wish they were The Circle Jerks or Minor Threat or something.
@adamrothraisdead Boy! What are you 12 or what? I guess you're an expert on what's punk and not punk. The only similarity between those bands and UPS is that they both lived in North America. Get a clue will you! Maybe you need to spend more time at the mall!
@adamrothraisdead don't be a spazz, it's only music. music is about having fun with friends, if you don't understand that then you need to do something else with yourself. FUCK SHIT UPPPPP
@thetalkingbrain Oh, by the way...I was responding to the juxtaposition between the video's title and what was actually occurring within the video. Superficiality =/= "Real 80's Hardcore Punk Rock"
This music in my opinion was punk, at it's second worst. It was just when all these minor threat wannabes wanted to become the next thing and chose to offend, instead of express.
Think about it guys... was anyone in that video fucking shit up?
but come on now, some of the best (hardcore) bands of the 80's were straight edge. i don't give a toe-curling fuck what they're singing about, i don't need somebody to reassess my own ideas to make me feel better about myself. it could be a twelve year old girl singing about the late development of her breasts......if she shows some anger and passion i'll listen.
yea, and thats nothing like the 14,000 people who hated it and missd the dislike button. CoolesKiddo is upset that he can't get any hits on his videos at all even though they are the coolest mainsteam videos around.
Fucking shot up is second to none. I'm fuckin up the commode while I write this!

TheDoctorVideo 1 year ago 10
@TheDoctorVideo 99% of all "punks" today are drunkass poser kids who sit at train stations texting. "punk" my ass!

This is the faggiest thing I've ever seen...Just because it's from 1984 doesn't mean it's "real". All I see is a bunch of poser fashion punks listening to a band full of poser fashion punks that wish they were The Circle Jerks or Minor Threat or something.

adamrothraisdead 1 year ago
@adamrothraisdead Boy! What are you 12 or what? I guess you're an expert on what's punk and not punk. The only similarity between those bands and UPS is that they both lived in North America. Get a clue will you! Maybe you need to spend more time at the mall!
SlugUseless 1 year ago
@adamrothraisdead don't be a spazz, it's only music. music is about having fun with friends, if you don't understand that then you need to do something else with yourself. FUCK SHIT UPPPPP
thetalkingbrain 11 months ago
@thetalkingbrain It sounds like music about having a lot of anal sex with friends, actually.
adamrothraisdead 11 months ago
@thetalkingbrain Oh, by the way...I was responding to the juxtaposition between the video's title and what was actually occurring within the video. Superficiality =/= "Real 80's Hardcore Punk Rock"
adamrothraisdead 11 months ago
@adamrothraisdead
HaHa, I can't believe people still make these stupid statements!!
TGordon42 8 months ago
This music in my opinion was punk, at it's second worst. It was just when all these minor threat wannabes wanted to become the next thing and chose to offend, instead of express.
Think about it guys... was anyone in that video fucking shit up?

Thats whats good about old hardcore--dissonant, raw, non-professional, destructive and dangerous. fuck straight edge. Destroy this world!
onbradley 1 year ago 25
@onbradley
but come on now, some of the best (hardcore) bands of the 80's were straight edge. i don't give a toe-curling fuck what they're singing about, i don't need somebody to reassess my own ideas to make me feel better about myself. it could be a twelve year old girl singing about the late development of her breasts......if she shows some anger and passion i'll listen.
