from a 16 yr old male catholic, my church in singapore had been starting to use the chants for the new roman missal.
my initial reaction was that i felt that the chants were unnecessary. but ever since my first mass with the new chant, i felt that the tone of solemnity brought the mass to a more meaningful level :)
i'm awaiting my confirmation soon, and it'll be on the day catholic churches in singapore officially convert to the new english translation of the roman missal!
This is great, please keep posting more videos. Finally we will do the right thing in English. Sense of sacredness comes back to the Catholic Church. I hope music directors dont change it because they are the one who change things to make them full active participation of the faithful ??? yeah right is just for their convenience and feel like we are in a latino dance party with salsa, no offense I like salsa music and merengue but it is not for the Church.
@Maryimmaculata I don't know about this being "the right thing", it is just one way to praise the Lord that you may like or not. Other mass settings are being updated as well to be aligned with the true translation from Latin, I don't dare to say that one setting is better than another (of course I do like some settings more than others, that is my personal preference). I am grateful that lots of talented people work on this and give us options that we can use to praise the Lord.
This is very Vatican II--to take the sacred treasury of music and bring it into the vernacular. It is simple, yet brilliant move. Also, the people are finding it easy to sing here in the Archdiocese of Boston. It works in real practice!
We are using this chant all through Advent. I think it's really beautiful and easy for people to move into the new translation.
