Drupal is simple, it does what it is supposed to do, correctly. How we use is determines whether we get the desired results or end up getting penalized. All my sites are doing great, no complaints, rather I get a lot of high quality traffic from organic searches. So it really depends on how well you use it.

Put duplicate content on your site, links to irrelevant sites, inappropriate content or language and see your site getting penalized.
