Honestly not sure on that one. If I knew what subdivision that was on I may be able to help put a little more but I'm not to familaure with train IDs outside of my "territory".
If you're talking about the CSX line from Montgomery to Birningham than that's the S&NA south. The Mercedes plant is located on the AGS south if I'm not mistaken. Now if you're talking about the NS line that goes south from Birningham to Mobile than that's the NS 3B I believe.
It is and isn't. The train is lead by UP locomotives but the train is a CSX train. Two things are going on here. This train origionated in the west (California I believe) and travled on UP rails to New Orelans where it was transfered to CSX. Instead of them changing the power out, they simply let CSX use their units under agreement that the 'horse power hours' will be paied back by CSX.
hey man, thnx for the camera tip, i bought the camera just yesterday and i gotta say: its great! awesome qualitay! but what programm do u use to copy on the pc, i got a firewire cable and do it with windows movie maker, but do you know a better software, maybe for free?
I don't know about a "better" software but I've always been pleased with WMM and have never used anything else. I'm sure you can hunt online for something else but beware of poor programs that yould screw up your shots.
yeah sure wmm is not bad, but my camera records 30fps, and wmm only copys 25, and i cant set it to 30, i use 2,1mbit setting, and its 25, and i dunno how to set on 30fps
I put mine into Windows Movie maker to edit it but the camera I use makes the video into an AVI file and I believe youtube takes this type file along with standard mpegs.
was that a siren I heard in the background. I love the way your camera is set. You don't see very many Chessie Systems or C&O that we used to. I'm a big fan of trains myself... ESPECIALLY CSX AND AMTRAK I'M NOT SO SURE ABOUT NS BNSF BN UP. THANKS PLEASE MAKE MORE. SETH....
Did I here a siren in the Background I love the way you have your camera set You don't see very many Chessie Systems around or C&O anymore like we used to. I'm a big fan of trains myself especially CSX AND Amtrak I'm Not sure about Union Pacific Or Burlington Northern Or BNSF Or ns. THANK YOU MAKE MORE VIDEOS. SORRY MY COMMENT IS SO LONG...
Greg, Very cool video! What's the zoom power on your recorder? It made you look like you were standing in the center of the track, before ya zoomed back. Sweet!
That's exactly the intent of the shot. I've got a couple of areas around here that give me the opportunity for a shot like this. I just wish the light was better for this one. I'll get another one here sooner or later.
The zoom power is 34x optical zoom plus up to 800x Digital-Zoom. I;ve set the camera to not use the digital zoom due to the image pixelating quickly as you go out further. Also, if you breath near the camera when zoomed in this far you'll see the image shake.
man I caught a Northbound CSX autorack train today just off of CR 95 up in Birmingham..
You have any idea what train number that is?

@hoolg Dang I don't know what sub it is, but I think it was coming up to bham from Mercades in Tuscaloosa county
hawleywe 1 year ago
@hawleywe
That was likely the AGS South then.
hoolg 1 year ago
@hoolg it's not the AGS. It's coming from Montgomery. it's whatever the CSX Main through Bham is called

@hoolg it's the S&NA. .. I originally thought it was going to Mercades, but looked at it on maps and it goes to Montgomery

The "S" designation refers to a second section of this particular drag freight.
CarNutandTrainNut2 2 years ago
I didn't say anything about "S."

TheGondorian 3 years ago
This was a CSX train with run through UP locomotives.
I use a JVC GRD770U Mini DV camcorder
hoolg 3 years ago
ah ty, but one more quesstion: how can i put the mini dv on the pc?
TheGondorian 3 years ago
A mini DV (digital video) camera is already "digitized" so all you need is the right cable to send it from the camera to the computor.
hoolg 3 years ago
so when i got that cable i dont need any software? only put in the pc, get it on and ready?
TheGondorian 3 years ago
I put mine into Windows Movie maker to edit it but the camera I use makes the video into an AVI file and I believe youtube takes this type file along with standard mpegs.

vut i dont need any software? or a special cable?(i hope usb is enough^^

I had to get a Firewire cable for my camera ($30) but it depende on the camera.

Yah, it was actually a fire truch leaving the station about 1 1/2 mils away.
I'm glad you liked the video. No worries on making more. This has been a life long hobby and I have no intent on stopping any time soon.

You can see the heat waves from the exhaust before you zoom out, that is totally cool.

Very nice approach shot! Great zoom too. By the way the "S" train ID is for a second section of the train.
