You're playing it as a straight 6/8 clave rhythm on just the floor tom, when it's actually a free clave across all the toms (three in Vinnie's case).

Fucking hard beat but Vinnie is the most deceptively brilliant drummer on the planet.

Yeah, dude, the way I phrased it made it sound like I nail it and god know's I don't... and I actually teach drums as a job at uni.

I don't think it is two separate tracks on the origianl, though. I think he just has such a riculous level of co-ordination that he can, in effect, play two fills in slightly different times with each of his hands.

Yeah, he's very understated. By no means the most flashy but always plays the right thing at the right at the right time.

Yea bro, The basis of the album is done in C# tuning. theres a few exceptions. Suicide Note part 1 is done on an acoustic 12 string in drop D tuning. Suicide part 2 and living through me hells wrath was done in D tuning standing. Underground of America & Sandblasted Skin were done in a funky tuning. Open lower octave G tuning *GGCFAD for this tuning you put it to D standard tuning and lower the bottom string to Low G to make the two strings an open finger octace. Sounds awesome to.

I think you got the opening part wrong, he's not just playing straight triplets/ 12/8 eighth notes on the floor tom. He's doing more than that, and playing on different toms, I think. I think :)
