@cactusjim1By the time Kentucky Thunder came out Ray Flacke was gone for about 5 or 6 years the last Album he played on was Don't Cheat In Our Hometown which was 1983 Ray Flacke was gone before Live In London which was 1985 Kentucky Thunder was 1989 so Ray Flacke was long gone by this 89 he was playing with Kathy Mettea so to sum this up to everyone he was gone by this time.
wow he's a amazing picker love Ricky he is still good at it i saw another video he's older it was a concert in 2009 he has long gray hair and got fat but still amazing on picking anything
@BluegrassLibrary Nope, that was indeed Albert Lee on the Kentucky Thunder album. Flacke had been gone from the band for at least 2 years by then, with Skaggs playing most of the electric stuff himself on the live shows. The other electric player on the track was Steve Gibson.
good god! albert lee and ricky skaggs! absolutely fantastic! what a smoking riff! i love seeing this come full circle, with a british guy nailing the guitar part. ricky is coming to a festival in my town in a few weeks, and i hope like crazy he's still picking on this kind of stuff, and not only gospel. he's the man!
I *rarely* blindly defend any other person, but everyone would be well advised to pay attention to, and accept comments of BigBoiJC re: Ricky Skaggs and his band. I don't know of anyone, other than Ricky, more knowledgeable of the facts of the transistion from "The Boys In The Band" to "Kentucky Thunder" and the facts leading up to the changes. It's' *my* considered opinion that "Big's info is sufficiently "inside" that he speaks with authority.
X L ENT!!! I love the guitar work on this song. This song was written by a great guitarist named Greg Jennings who is the lead guitarist for the great country/rock
band Restless Heart. It was co-written with Restless Heart's record producer Tim DuBois. They recorded this song on their outstanding 1986 album 'Wheels' . Ricky Skaggs is friends with Restless Heart and I read that Ricky has performed this song with them;I'd love to see that performance! Thanks for putting this great performance up!
Both Albert and Ricky are great in their own unique ways - this is the magic of music - we don't need to argue and fight about it - just dig the sounds man !
yes mickeymoose... us americans have no talent. ricky skaggs, vince gill, marc oconnor. we suck. frankly, i'm embarrassed. let's forget other weak u.s. shows like otis rush, freddie king, stevie ray vaughan, jeff healey, jimi hendrix, danny gatton, chet atkins, jerry reed, tony rice, steve morse, roy buchanan... can i stop trashing our crap players now? you sir, are an idiot. and if you want a hotter tele smoker (maybe) than albert lee, doug seven is another american punk who isn't too bad.
You can certainly tell who the american is and who the english guys is cant you... the americans full of bravado but not much talent, and the englsih guy is just quietly playing superbly in the background!!
Mickeymoose, get a clue mate. Albert Lee is a giant among country guitarists, but he learned it off of records by Americans like Jimmy Bryant and Speedy West, and would say so. The hottest country pickers on the planet choose to reside right here in the USA - not London. You might want to bear that in mind before blundering in here making an ass of yourself next time.
tell ya this douche bag - we might not be the best guitarists - although lee did learn from country rock and yes he is one of the best - here's a clue - when ya criticize learn to form cohesive sentences - us secondary U.S. guitarirsts would appreciate it - "english guys are" not english guys is" just knitpicking like you are
@mickeymoose76 BigBoiJC may apologize for disagreeing with you but i won't. Ricky isn't a blustery swaggering type of gentleman. He is just enjoying the great music he and albert are making. as BigBoi did say before, you did nothing more than make yourself look foolish.
Hey twangman1974. I am sensing some jealousy here. I know if I played guitar, I would be envious of either one of these two. Both are just outstanding pickers.
Do you think Brad Paisley took this Albert Lee tele technique to the woodshed for about 3 years? Spot on Brad but maybe Albert knows when to let up a bit better. Thanks for this posting! Got any more Albert?
foulkes52: I just wanted to let you know, in case you didn't already, Albert Lee will be playing on Brad Paisley's next album...in fact, the song that Albert Lee will be playing on will also feature Brent Mason, Vince Gill and various other country guitar greats! It should be one great song!
I think everybody who has aspired to play country guitar in the last 30 years has tried to copy Albert Lee. I know I wore out my "Hot Licks" instructional video that Albert put out in the 80's.
i find it's funny because Ricky went to London first with Emmy and then he came back to london back in 85 to do his Live album doing his music...he kinda went full circle there and now he went full circle again going back to where he started...with Bluegrass.
