  • Im puking rainbows yo

  • 93 You will never injure or threaten me again. 93

  • 93 Tricky & PJ Harvey are welcome in Heaven.......... 93

  • 93 Ezekiel 13:9 93

  • 93 No more will Israel practice vain & flattering divination. 93

  • Amazing...an atmosphere, tension, everything is really brill but in my opinion the bes PJ's duet is with Nick Cave in "Henry Lee".

  • These lyrics are amazing! PJs smooth voice together with Trickys are totally brilliant!

  • It annoys me that he shakes PJ's hand and says "nice to meet you" when she'd already been on the show at least once by that point...

  • @jordanprincessai He's an asshole. Just look at the interview with Manson where he mocks him about his name. Manson is not amused :P

  • what is it with all these late night show hosts, conan, leno, letterman? everytime there's an epic performance they all seem so uninterested. i'm left wondering if lettermen even realizes just how much better this performance made this episode of his worth watching. its that, or all these show hosts are booooring people in real life.

  • Better than the studio version, unbelievable gospel choir, goose bumps all over.

  • this was amazing!

  • multiple eargasms

  • una decada que la escuche por primera vez y hasta la fecha es fantastica!!!

  • Dengatube,

    Best comment here...

  • 3:13 - look at this woman singing! pure energy!! fantastic!!

  • Tricky was the real talent of the nineties.

  • I just love this!

  • Love that gospel choir!

  • "the textures in this piece make it so sumptuous to listen to

you've got Tricky with his rough & bla bla bla".

Makes me vomit. This is the top rated comment. What is wrong with people?

  • @utubesucksgoatballs They're not like you, If they were then clearly they'd be alright.

  • Awesome!

  • 0:51 song starts

  • "Murder is media".

  • I really like her Lips!

  • Just add a few more English references, and this sounds as though it could have informed PJ Harvey's new album, kind of.

  • tricky reminds me of the chocolate rain guy tay zonday..

  • @sidiqmk

......uuummmm that's prolly one of the most confused comments I have ever read.

  • Tricky knows how to make women sings

  • Well I love this song and Tricky but I am positive that David Lettrman's audience was not ready for this...

  • @diasporavisuals

I have to agree with you, no F**** clue.

So wonderful and sexy to have those two together singing, too bad it is not a sexy theme.

  • @diasporavisuals hehehehehe so true :-P

  • Thank God the studio walls didn't come down. Btw. If plugged in, the choir generates electricity for a whole town.

  • Wonderful

  • I adore them both, but actually I don`t really like the song...

  • this is the real darkness 666

  • damn this is beautiful!!!

  • so uh, tricky just like stood there doing nothing

  • @ajre82

U really dont get it, do you?

    He made this.

I hope you like whatever "music" you listen to

  • @HMClagi

no U really don't get it. so don't even try.

  • I just had an eargasm

  • this is mad cool!!!

  • This was a collaboration made in heaven. Two of my favorite artists...perfection

  • Something I love about Tricky's work is that he's happy to sit in the background, letting others sing if he thinks they can do a better job of the song than he would. He writes songs specifically for people that really show up their abilities, almost at the expense of his own.

Only someone with exceptional talent, ability & confidence would do this. Tricky has tonnes of these.

  • Rich

  • Epic!!

  • wow best combo!!!

even pj harvey & bjork were great though

  • tricky is from my home town in bristol

  • Surely no need for the massive intro....

  • this is fucked up, a real horror movie song i bet they called a priest after this performance!!i love it

  • I love this song, but Tricky is barely a blip on the radar here.

  • @madsketcher good music is always like that

  • i've got to say letterman has the best music on his show

  • god. that choir gives me chills.

  • Their voices meld well together. He's like her dark subconcious talking.

  • Ah q ricura!!

  • I cant believe the letterman show ok'ed this song. its so out of place, i love it.

  • @blanketshapes It's completely in place on the Letterman show. It's been the one place to see exceptional and different artists on U.S. TV since his NBC show.

  • beg ya get the title sorted, it's Tricky featuring PJ.

  • what a strange place to see this performed...

    good song though.

    ps. is callasexperience tricky? .....hmmmmm.....

  • What a brilliant song. So deep and beautiful. I could hear it again and again. Definitely my favourite Tricky song!

  • great track but unfinished just a quick demo half baked it had huge potential half the song was never written basically you got half of it ,you got a loop...

  • Her first appearance on the show? By the time she performed Black Hearted Love, he called her Polly when he shook her hand. God... dorking out... Perhaps I need a real life.

  • Great Song, great album. Tricky was and is awesome.

  • DAMN GOOD

  • amazing backup singers!!! <B

  • amazing backup singers!!!!<B

  • OHHH GOSHHH this so is simply AMAAAAZING!!

  • the american audience love these guys

  • this is classic.boys n girls

  • Awesome song but it's Tricky feat. PJ Harvey!

  • amazing! i love everything

  • holy crap! that was cool

  • really enjoyed this arrangement. such a good song. it amazes me how much of Tricky's stuff has aged so well

  • this song reminds me of Sun Ra, oddly enough

  • Tricky is a from outer space.

Allflaws is the best new thing from this planet

Quite like Scroobuis pip and faithless too

  • If you like Tricky you should check out on Psiv Ablurdyms- Phrom 20,000 Leeguez. very similar to some of Tricky's darker tracks

  • And if you like Tricky you have to check out a band named "Terranova" (Songtip: Terranova feat. Tricky - Bombing Bastards)...

  • Holy hell this is awesome! All we need is massive attack remixing it and it would blow me away!

  • fantastic magic

I will rise from your dirt

    and destroy your worms

  • Fantastic back up singers!

  • totally love this track,,, i remember when this album first came out but its taken me awhile to revisit this song,,,,, No surprises, still a phukn epic track, absolute killa, - i agree with you Dundun4 - PJ is killsquad sexy....

  • My God.. P.J, is sexy..!!

  • So haunting . Beautiful..

  • jugding this song as pessimistic makes you sound like a pesimistic lol...i love tricky makes me think deep..

  • Pessamistic my ass.....this rocks!

  • pessamistic maybe...realistic and factual.

    I really liked it

  • Geeezus - ever heard of spell check or a Dictionary?? 3 of you spelled it wrong differently. It's spelled "pessimistic".

  • ouch negative five??

guys?! i didnt say i hated it, by the way everybody has their outlook on life, i didnt say i disagreed with his i was just making an observation. generally every song that i have encountered by him was pecimistic, but i listen to his music when im feeling down.

  • Great work by PJ and the choir. Tricky was almost in that number

  • top song better then the crap in the charts today

  • this is origami with thick cardboard..

  • no es por nada.. pero esta cancion hace quemar cabeza ah jejej muy buena.. ah

  • WOW

  • this is orgasmic.

  • i agree with you

  • two singers very very goods .....the song is very deep

  • the bristol sound!!!!!

  • the o.t.t. choir at the end spoilt this for me

  • mehr geht nicht! brilliant, fantastic, ...

  • great! amazing! love everything

  • Damn so brilliant! ... applebum, you've said all I could have tried to write right now...

    EXQUISITO! ;-)

  • It's like a perfect romance between Trickys and PJ Harveys voices...heard this song a thousends of times and I love it more and more...

  • the textures in this piece make it so sumptuous to listen to

you've got Tricky with his rough & bitter crumpled up murmering singing style

mixed with PJ brings a very subtle & vulnerable sweetness almost childlike

then the choir add a exquisite euphoria & majestically gorgeous vocal (those harmonies soar)

all set against the big hypnotic slow swinging trip hop beat

a gorgeous piece if i was making a film I'd have this in the sound track somewhere

in shorter words... i think dis beats is sick

  • @Applebaum great description

  • heard tricky on the radio a while back.. said he would love to work with polly harvey again ... i hope it happens!

  • "Angels With Dirty Faces" is a wonderful album. Unbeliavable. Desert island stuff.

  • uuuuy que bueno!

  • I love Polly Jean. She is so wicked. Tricky is a man.

  • ah Peej you are fucking hot.

and yeah, Tricky, you're a bit of a dude too. :)

Great live version of a lovely moody song.

  • Beautiful <3

  • yes yes yes i love this song more as time goes along i wasn't feeling much at the time. a friend of mine sang on ther the original recording a white dude actually....singing a 'black song'

    fatyetskinny??

    Tricky is half white himself

Pj Harvey is wicked in her own right

i think this song needed a broken vulnerable singer singing on it to echoe the words and then the choir comes in v majestic and powerful and the beat is sick its like the tide goin out & comin back in

  • Because her voice fits. It shouldn't matter what her skin is, she's just a medium to get Tricky's lyrics out.

  • Shut your mouth mere human! PJ is infallible.

  • I love PJ Harvey!!

  • well not that the american public was not ready it was more that tricky was so lazy that since maxinequaye he never finished writing his songs, that is just a rough studio idea that had potential but it stayed as a repeated loop with a too heavy gospel choir to hide the fact that it missing half the song.... and I should know

  • @callasexperience

    Fascinating perspective on this song.

I had this album when it came out and played the fuck out of it. Never really thought that his songs were unfinished as you say. Maybe that adds to the whole essence of his music.

  • Yea

  • two great artists , and a great song , love this piece , and the two of them , i think that tricky's work is very deep and really amazing also Pj Harvey ...

  • tricky went native with the attire there :) What oh what makes this man who he is ? There are rumours that the American public werent ready for this sort of music back then even though he was resident there; he wasnt welcomed to NYC with a big hug... i hope its changed today though; it would be their loss if it hasnt.

  • I remember seeing him around NYC often. I must say, he didn't appear to be very approachable. Very surly, actually. Combine that with NYC sensibilities you will understand that loving embraces of unfamiliar faces do not come easily.

I love him no matter. I don't think he was angry or anything was his fault. Some people have faces that can fool you if you don't take the time to know them.

    I ramble. :)

  • he had a difficult chilhood ....like quite fucked up---I saw a documentry on him once (a really indepth good one- on dvd i think??)

I think his music helped him express his pain/anger/fears etc probly cathargic for him u know

  • @pol115

Thats not quite true. This album went platinum back then and he even toured it in the US.

Pre Millenium Tension was his breakout in the United States as I remember.

  • classism lmfao. she isn't upper-middle class at all. you're off your rocker.

  • sorry i love tricky, but this song doesnt do it for me

  • totally awesome...!!!!

  • I saw Tricky live a few years ago and I couldn't believe that concert...every song was climaxing to a heavy metal epic tune that was blowing your head off.

  • haunting... this song was suppose to be with Aaliyah.

  • no way, that would of been interesting.

  • really??

  • Yep, read it in an interview when "angels with dirty faces" came out. He wanted aaliyah to do it but her schedule conflicted.

I gotta say, I think it fits better with PJ.

  • pj harvey's voice is perfect.. so beautiful

  • He is more than the king of Trip Hop, he pure poetry!

  • Thnx for posting, tricky is the genius...

  • Yes, absolutely !!

  • i love this collaboration between tricky and pj, but the choir kinda bugs me

  • I agree. Great song, but I could have done without the choir.

  • I agree - mostly the end of the song.

  • Incredible..

  • pj wuz tha biznazz on that record.--- loved it

  • Well tricky recorded all the instruments using a sampler, wrote the lyrics and the melodie, and produced it so that make it his songs and PJ a session singer...plus her voice is too british school girl.....

  • it was supposed to b alia.but she died

  • but u see she is not a school girl. well she is an artschool girl.

  • this looks more like pj's song than tricky's..

she and back vocals are singing...don't understand tricky's function in this song :) except he's whispers

  • although tricky's not outwardly performing as much, he pretty much wrote and composed the whole song, and then got PJ in to sing it, that's his function

  • He is NOT the king of "Trip Hop". What a disgusting lie. He his poetry and innermost thoughts.

  • this was very moving....wow

  • horrible version, where is the fuckin video gone?

  • tricky could sit down and the song wouldnt sound en different....... :(

  • I agree... He wispered in to the mike a couple of times and that was it... This was all PJ Harvey... Nice tune though.

  • excelent

  • the hell is wrong with you?

  • wrong video i think

  • Are you on acid?

  • Good performance... The gospel choir adds a lot of intensity.

  • such a good song, what a compilation!

Hearing pj's voice amongst those morose beats is so refreshing.

  • What on earth is Tricky doing on David Letterman?

  • Got to be trickys worst song. Must say Tricky is genius most of the time.

  • Why thumb down this comment. SoloLegions only say that he doesn't like that song. It's not "bashing" or a useless comment. I thumbed it up!

  • Goosebumps

  • very nice video but i would cut the first 40s

  • Funny how they spelled Gabriel Byrne...like, "Bryne". I thought they had people who checked that crap. lol.

    Yes, great performance btw.

  • 2 words: FUCK YEAH!

  • i enjoy it. but i really love pj's 'angelene'.

  • Whaaaaaaaaaaaaooooooo!!!!! FANTASTIC

  • i get the chills from that song. thats when you know it rocks the shit

  • PJ looks like a nervous high schooler doing a solo at a high school choir concert, but it's still a fucking brilliant performance.
