@curlymike BTW, those stupid PS/2 were not easy upgradeable, I bought 8Mb of ram, but couldn't manage the PC to recognize it, I did manage it to use soundcard and hooked up CD-ROM to Sound Card's IDE port, worked under Win 3.1 :-)
Next upgrade was normal 486DX4-100, I'd put those 8Mb of RAM there, althogh people were buying first Pentiums that days.
Hello, how did you connect it to internet? I install Internet Explorer and everything straight, more time to get into a site error, can you help me? You turn some setting? It could help me with this?
@crafty1982 I do miss this! BBS systems in a terminal window! 28.8 Modems. And running that version of windows, he should have had at least a 66mhz Pentium.
@lobmo You might be missing it as a part of your childhood, but if you had to got through the pains of surfing the web like that, with NO other alternative, and having to pay a LOT of money for that (since you paid per hours of usage), guess you would change your mind all of a sudden...
@BilisNegra I did go through that. I was still using Windows 3.11 and Netscape 1.1 when I was 17. I paid for my own internet and for $35 a month I got something like 100mb of data usage a month at 28.8k.
But the internet was a geeks paradise back then. I remember when MegaDeth was the first band to have a major website. BIANCA (look that one up) was a where you went to chat dirty. And MIRC was where you downloaded Jpegs cause your brand new 75mhz computer wasn't fast enough to run video! LOL
wow. I didn't even think a 386 could be mule whipped and tortured into doing anything remotely like this. Even then its slower than a Glacier during an ice age. LOL.
@svenakin777 I totally agree, when hard drives weren't as silent as they are today, it was much easier to troubleshoot them and know whether the heads are moving or not. I, for one, would rather hear a hdd clicking about and know it's doing something or not than wonder what the hell is going on inside of it.
@mmihain not as you know it today, but there was TCP/IP connections, modems have existed since I believe the 1960s, when you dialed your phone into a computer system, put the phone ontop of the modem and the modem talked to the server. lol.
