Beautiful and terrifying at the same time. The second half is one of my favorite passages from any novel. As much as I loved the movie, it really annoyed me that they cut that speech out.
I don't think Moore ever liked Rorchach, but all these years later I think Rorschach is the only character in Watchmen I can really relate too except on my bad days, then it's The Comedian.
no disrespect to jakie erl hailey (who did a spectacular job) but I actually think that alan moore does a better job as rorschac, he fits the psychopathic nature of the character disturbingly well
@zq42black you have no idead dude , trust me and u know hat really scares me? not the fact that i've been called a genius or that i'll sound just like this when i'm older but what really scares me is that when i hear myself creating and spreading this fear in my voice....i like it
Moore really underplays the true madness behind rorscach's character whilst reading, sounds much more sinister and realistic than Jackie Earle Haley's depiction in the movie.
Alan moore created the watchmen to show the realistic form of super heroes like rorschach is suppose to be like batman and Dr mahattan is super man in a realistic way
This voice fits rorschach well, especially with the 1930's sort of English detective outfit. It's a different portrayal of Rorschach from the movie. This one could very well be considered the true voice of Rorschach since Moore created the character. Where the movie glorified him as a bone crunching bruting badass, here Alan shows his true bleak and dark nature, his negative outlook on life, his true madness...It's damn scary. I'd like to hear Moore voice "MY FACE! GIVE ME MY FACE!!!"
This is fine for when Rorschach is doing his paranoid, delusional stuff, but I wonder if it would work at all when he is talking about Edward Blake and the famous Pagliacci bit, which I think was a bit stunted in the movie version too.
His version sounds like he's overdoing Rorschach's faults and not letting through that he is a human also capable of something resembling compassion.
@OTimeMasterXO If he isn't, then there's a big flub during the scene where he goes back to get his replacement costume and decides to leave his landlord alone because of her kids (especially that one look he gives the kid he apparently empathizes with)
I prefer the movie's interpretation of his voice better. The way Moore puts it makes me think of this character as more boring, slow, and have less of an impact on me. That being said, I did see the movie first however, so I may be more biased towards that, but I still feel that Jackie Earle Haley did a much better job.
@CloudedPoet stop pretending to be a poet. Earle Haley made Rorshach nothing but pretentious in that film. He didn't pretend to have this "im a hard man" voice, he was monotone and loathing. He hated everything around him, if Batman had a personality that was realistic, it'd be like this and you just failed to understand it. Never criticise Alan Moores finest work like you're some kind of fine author, you piece of shit. You're no Shakespeare or Dickens, try reading a fucking book.
this movie is sooo comfusing someone explain something to me... so the comedian realised the world a sack of balls and just think whats the point humans suck may as well kill them so why does he say everythings a joke and why does that blonde guy kill him also doctor manhatten kill rorshach someone please answer these questions as this movie confused me soooo much
I've since seen the actual video with Alan Moore reading this, I agree entirely with you. Moore has a voice so fitting, I know when I finally do see this movie, it just won't be the same as far as Rorschach's voice goes.

@servomoore Rorschach's capacity for empathy is what drove him into Dissociative Identity Disorder in the first place.

Nah, Jackie Earle Haley annoyed me. He sounded too forced, it was distracting. Same problem I had with Christian Bale in the Batman movies.
TheThing88 1 year ago
@TheThing88
I disagree. I feel that Jackie Earle Haley nailed the character, while Alan Moore just bored me with it.
I'll agree with Christian Bale though. He does an good job for the role, but if he didn't make it sound so rough, it'd be better.
