@DoctorS8n Not necesarily. I always thought Libby never took the stand in his own defense because doing so would open him up to questioning of even more secure and confidential matters. If Cheney sued, he'd be in an even worse situation, so, I guess I am answering my own question: Even if they can sue, they will not.

The whole plan was outlined in the margin notes the Veep wrote (all declassified, not in the film, they left the Veep out for what was easy to establish - his chief of staff did it). That's why Bush didn't pardon Libby, even though he had to cross Veep Cheney & it got so hot he admitted he almosyt didn't keep him for Veep in term 2 - he was pissed
So then over Cheney's railing objections, Bush allowed the trial and conviction vs pardoned, then commutted. Joe Wilson gives one of the most compelling lecturers I've ever heard. He shares quietly, calmly --- sounding more wounded than angry. I was impressed that the charge to hear the lecture was minimal and that it was held in a small concert hall at the local university. One can tell that Mr. Wilson's goal isn't to become a media wonder or to make $ off their tragedy. It's simply to tell truth and to take back his personal power (as victims need to do --- telling the story is the key).

Those 70 (or however many) dead are nothing vs the hundreds of nuclear scientists they were working with who learned not to trust US, and so THEY wouldn'd risk life/family to help us stop nukes; more, they WOULD run to us, but to others who ARE serious - Iran, Syria, mafias - people who will protect them, not leave them. Clinton's mistakes were usually amateur, vs that.

Hi Wolfen, the one Iraqi scientist was just the example for cinematic purposes; unofficial estimates place the damage as high as 70 foreign operatives dead - and not just in Iraq, of course, since nuclear counterproliferation is a MAJOR US interest across the world. I don't see the damage as at all the same - it would be hard for any President to rise to the level of a major war, 100ks of civilians dead, thousads of American personnel, vs what after 3 investugations still might have

@Constantone, also liked it it reflects on what happened to them after she was outed. The fact that she tried to save the Iraqui scientists and was denied was tragic too. The way government works is not pretty or fair, for a similar case remember Bill Clinton's administration. Its scandals, "suicides". and cover ups matched and were only topped by Bush later.

The manipulation of the evidence and the following up cover up and her situation later are what is controversial in this case. It was the same people who were part of "team B" during the Reagan years who claimed the Soviets were building up weapons when in fact their programs were in decline. It was a SALES JOB. Bush wanted to go to war from day one because a "wartime President" has extra powers. The Republicans USED 9/11 to bash the Democrats for SPORT.

If Cheney sued, he'd be in an even worse situation, so, I guess I am answering my own question: Even if they can sue, they will not.

The whole plan was outlined in the margin notes the Veep wrote (all declassified, not in the film, they left the Veep out for what was easy to establish - his chief of staff did it). That's why Bush didn't pardon Libby, even though he had to cross Veep Cheney & it got so hot he admitted he almosyt didn't keep him for Veep in term 2 - he was pissed

So then over Cheney's railing objections, Bush allowed the trial and conviction vs pardoned, then commutted. This means Libby was disbarred, (major blow unless you can give million dollar speeches, rarely allowed: eg Nixon after Watergate; Clinton after Impeachment) and had to pay the fine (250K, I think); and have the conviction for 5 counts of perjury as his professional record, though I am sure he'll bare the shame in some style.
