The reason China isolates itself is because of the fear that foreign powers will takeover. Similar to the takeover of the financial system of japan, south korea, indonesia, australia, africa, south america, mexico, iraq, and pretty much the entire world has been taken over at some point.

China is adopting "isolationism" in it's economic policies for fear of assaults from invisible forces on the international market. This is very real issue as this is what alot smaller countries has suffered by the neoliberal economic market forces, basically predatory behavior by the so-called developed "liberal" countries, that are actually predators on the developing countries: L.America, and Africa never developed because of this "dependency". China is smart in isolationism.

Every single successful countries in the "East Asian Economic Miracle" (SKorea, Japan, Taiwan) have adopted isolationist (and protectionism) policies to protect its domestic market from being taken over by foreign forces when merging into the global market during its development phase. China is adopting the same isolationist measures as every other past examples except China is so rich has huge internal funds it doesn't even need to rely on foreign investments (only 5%).
