  • Believe it or not, Tacoma has not been sold in Japan. So very few Japanese know it.

  • I hate the big headlights

  • Is the MPG good? Manual or Auto?

  • @C0UNTRY927 I have a 2011 4*4 regular cab. It weighs less than this model, and I have the 4 cylinder. Around town and on the highway I measured it once, and it came out to 23 mpg. On a long trip, if I run it reasonable, I think I get around 25 mpg.

  • Best in class

  • nice truck but jesus christ the top of line model is nearly 40k (cdn) at that price may as well buy a tundra...

  • Best apocalypse vehicle.

  • yeah i definaly will get this truck. my dad is starting to like toyota went to new york car show and i liked this truck and im a tall guy so i dont fit in ever car but toyota will definaly last longer than any american car or truck ( sorry ford i still love you though)

  • i like u toyota

  • this is the defintion of a GURLS truck!!!, but i like it there nice!

  • this is a nice looking truck. I have a colorado crew cab with v8 and 4x4 and if i hadnt gotten that I would of gotten this.

  • @niceprincedo you have any problems with it yet?

  • @xBloodfatherx none at all got 21k+miles on it in a little under a year. I 4wheel it pretty often about every week. I do have some gripes tho the seats suck and the steering wheel lacks radio controls. But those are easy fixes really. A small price to pay to be able to out run other "sport" trucks.

  • @niceprince ok i guess the v8 model is rare but the v6 and 4 cylinder models suck. just the reviews are terrible but hopefully your truck will last

  • TRD Sport = Useless but cool looking hood scoop. TRD Off Road = Rear differential locker but no hood scoop. which would you rather have?

  • I'm a Toyota guy, but I still love the GMC Sierra too.

  • The hood scoop adds 10 HP and the TRD sticker adds another 16 HP!

  • The mags break it's balls about it's ride with TRD

They have to find something wrong with the perfect truck, right?

I've only driven it with the standard suspension, so I can't comment on TRD

    Pretty damn smooth to me!

  • I have this same truck and I would'nt trade it for anything in the world, this thing is solid as a rock with top quality. And mine actually rides quite nice despite what the guy said in the review.

  • Tacoma > all other trucks

  • a bumpy ride huh? :(

  • Does anyone know why the power output dropped since 2005?

  • @05front It didn't. It is just the way they measure it changed. It is the exact same engine and power.

  • Comment removed

  • Is there a USB drive in the toyota tacoma?

  • @PK612x hell no. try a lexus. there is a aux/ line in cord though for mp3 music on 09 and up

  • @PK612x nope. aux port though.

  • @PK612x Yes, I seen one in a 2011 and 2012 and it also has an iPod jack you can plug in to listen to music. I don't know about the 2009 ones though why?

  • Buying a Tacoma is like having a license to KICK ASS!

    Yeah!

  • If you DON'T get the TRD suspension pkg., the truck will ride as smooth as silk!

    Very quiet too!

  • @BlackDynamiteNYC why/how is the TRD version loud? I remember being in a normal double cab- SO quiet! SO confertable too.

  • NASA should send a tacoma to the moon

  • @youiable dude my thoughts exactly

  • @youiable haha nice one.

  • toilet

  • Anyone who wants to complain about toyotas being foreign pieces of crap that cant do anything and never last, than why can I not find one of the old bad ass looking tacomas for sale? I can find any other brand, yet I cannot find a tacoma.=( Yet they are all over the roads....I want one!!

  • @27WINGSONTHEROAD Just go onto the tacoma forums then go to the classifieds, there are a bunch of offroad tacomas for sale

  • @27WINGSONTHEROAD Because no one wants to let them go.

  • Whats Standard with Toyota Tacoma? whats Optional?

  • Why no hood scoop for the off road? :(

  • "and no hoodscoop" umm, TRD offroad package comes with a rear diff locker, who the fuck needs a hoodscoop when you have that?

  • @PUCK271 LOL! You should get into stand up comedy.

  • I have an 02 Tundra with 402000 kms. Absolutely nothing wrong with it, doesn't leak or burn oil, it's gonna go forever

  • uhhhh i have a 5.9L v8 dak sooooooo

  • wat color is that its really fukin nice

  • Now that's a review!

  • dodge dakota es mucho mejor

  • How does this qualify as a review, the man is just listing the options... so is it good?

  • For all those who are thinking of buying this truck... the Tacoma is great, however, most trucks from 2005-2011 will encounter the same problems. These problems include: transmission and drivetrain problems, temperature compass gauge going out, and engine vibration while at idle and under normal driving conditions. I own a 2006 and my father owns a 2010, both displaying the same symptoms that Toyota does not acknowledge. Don't believe me, just check out the forums.

  • Been looking at Tundra's and Tacoma's recently. I like the styling of the Tundra and it is a beast of an engine but defiantly not an off-road machine. I drove an '09 w/ 36k on it today and bought it. Figured I can't go wrong with Toyota in the first place, now I am very happy with my decision and I'm looking forward to taking it down to "Land between the Lakes" in KY very soon to see what all of the fuss is about :)

  • he forgot to mention one very important feature on the off road package, the electronic rear locker. so would you rather have a hood scoop that looks cool and doesnt do shit? or no hood scoop and a very functional locking differential

  • can a double cab fit 3 carseats or would it just be cruel punishment??

  • it's nice except the radio/cd player doesn't work...it goes on and off...a cd was stuck in there for 3 days before it finally came out...hasn't worked yet one day all the way through...i still can't believe that all trucks in this price range do not come standard with cruise and intermittent wipers...live and learn...

  • "midsize" this makes me mad the companies dont see it but atleast 40% of truck drivers use small sized trucks, so why dont people buy them?

    1. there are none to buy...

    2. all the small sized compaq trucks are being sold used

    KEEP MAKING compaqs!

  • plus i like some beef in my tacos, and 236 hp just isnt enough

  • For a Small Truck??? You bet your ass thats as good as it's gonna get!

    Tundra < F-150 though.

  • a base f150 is only 4000 more than a base ranger, so its really a no brainer. but ive heard they might put the ecoboost v6 in the f150 and drop the ranger. i dont care, just dont see why not buy a f150 its much more capable. ive had a decked out platinum truck configured (hey, we all do it!) to 60k so maybe not such a bargain, but it IS the MAYBACH of trucks

  • lol The Platinum CrewMax is way better than the ford... Better powertrain! More comfortable, RECLINING REAR SEATS.... the ford's crewcab is small compared to the crewmax son,,,

  • platinum is the ford top of the line, nobody else can use that name? and who cares about reclining back seats, who sites there? and while ive never been in either, my raptor rides and handles extremely good, and if you want a good ride buy a dodge, got your coil springs right there, very comfy. plus, my truck has sync, thats trippy as hell when your driving and your car reads you a incoming text message or something

  • LOL You've been livin' under a rock haven't you? The Tundra Platinum a little bit More Space then the Ram Megacab! The Tundra Platinum edition is the Top of the Line Toyota Tundra you can get... I respect the Raptor's suspension system,,, thats about it... If it had the same power as the tundra it would be a different story.... Tundra has 70hp more and a bigger displacement....

  • you say that... i counter with the BOSS 6.2 v8 the raptor is getting very soon. 422 hp, 411 ft lb... would have gotten that one but the dealer didnt have it in stock and i dont like waiting, plus nothing can keep up with me anyway when im out there so its ok... the chances of getting into a race with a 6.2 are small

  • You are right on that comparision. The ranger is long overdue to be retired. Thing is though, here in Canada, I can get a loaded XLT ranger for 24k on the road, and a tacoma will set me back about 40k on the road... funnier thing is the tundra is about the same as a tacoma on the road...

    F150 XLT 4door loaded is around 36K.

All said and done, I'm still strongly considering the tacoma... I have an F150 for work and its had some pretty queer issues... like a rearend going at 40k mi.

  • well, here you cant buy a tacoma if you wanted to-they have all been recalled and sales have been stopped. rangers arent really meant for towing much, but as a truck people generally agree the tundra is the worst truck available-what with frame rot, low haul/tow capability (ford f150 is the highest in class) and now sticky pedals. dunno about your rear end going, unless you tow much more than the truck is rated for towing. maybe you should get a f250 super duty

  • Yeah, I hear ya, I think the rear end was a fluke, I really don't haul anything very often at all, and certainly never heavy. i use it in the woods... but i don't spin it or push it through mud etc.. its been stuck once... anyway, i'm still really pleased with F150's and would really consider getting a 4 door crew cab for my family vehicle, except my wife thinks they're too big, so thats why i'm thinking a tacoma with a 6' box.

I really am not impressed with the tundras

  • "small" and "truck" dont really mix well. honestly, wait until the new 5.0 goes into the f150, it will get better gas mileage and make better power, plus the new model probably has a even stroner drivetrain. i am suprised you havent been put off fords for life - but if your going to wait until you can buy a tacoma again, you may as well wait for the updated f150. fx4 is a good off roader, but its more expensive. i have a raptor, and that thing is tops but expensive and hard to find

  • or get a sierra 2500hd

  • is there seriously a towing package on this "truck"? no thanks, i would take a ranger or f150 lx to this, and in 5 years the frame wont have rusted either. seriously, a freakin TOW PACKAGE!!! what was toyota THINKING?

  • ya your ford ranger wont rust because in 5 years it will be more of a piece of shit then when you first bought it and probably will be sitting in your drive way broken down

  • this thing is pathetic. buy a ford, ford does trucks. and cars for that matter but thats another vid. and no i dont have a ranger, i have a raptor. fords dont have frame rot issues like toyota, and this "thing" thats dressed up like a truck has a tow package!!! its a TRUCK! it shoud have the basic tow equipment as standard. and fords arent shit, they are better than this

  • they were thinking that people need to tow stuff. dumbass.

  • tow stuff? in a TRUCK? you must be mad! do they charge Extra for that? if you buy a truck, you expect it to tow stuff, you dont say, " well i have a truck but i cant tow anything because i didnt get the towing package.." it should come as standars, like on every other truck out there, because thats what trucks DO, tow/haul

  • Ranger's are worthless! lol

Who the fuck buys Rangers! they are pieses of shit and have always been.... power not even comparable to taco's....

  • nobody would buy a ranger, which is why ford is likely to cancel it. i was just shocked that it cost extra to get towing equipment. but i do believe the general consensus in the full size segment is the f150 is the best. like, this has a prerunner option (which is what i was looking for when i found this) but i won a ford raptor, and it doesnt compare in any way. plus, the frame will rust which isnt good for toyotas oh-so-perfect reliability ratings

  • The Toyota Tacoma is not only great looking but also one of the BEST pickup trucks out there!!!!

  • The Tundra is good too

  • Comment removed

  • I would buy TACOMA any day of the year over any other truck. Why Toyota is reliable/keeps its value and durable no matter how rough you use it.

  • is the double cab the same as crew cab? or is it smaller?

because i saw the different trims and body design of the tundra, they offer regular cab, double cab, and crew. is the double cab a "tighter" 4-door design (like an extended cab with 4-doors instead of 2)?

  • yes, the double cab is an access cab. which is the same as "double cab". but both are 4 dr.

  • so does that mean the 4-door double/access cab has like, narrower rear doors? i mean like, it's definitely smaller than the full-sized crew cab right?

  • are your sure the double is the same with the access?

  • the double cab is not the same thing as the access cab. The double cab is 4 dr with a full back seat. The access cab has the swinging doors with a half back seat

  • @gtvapsamtik ... "no matter how rough you use it" is not so acurate, i LOVE my truck, but i abused it for its 1st 2 years of its life, my truck has prolly gotten as much air time as a trophy truck, and been as fast off road as one too, thinking when i 1st had it "its a toyota it can take anything and keep going forever"... WRONG! i abused my truck and now im paying for it.... i LOVE my truck no doubt, but im on my 3rd diff, and 2nd trandmission, mind you both were replaced under warrenty

  • @gtvapsamtik buut.... you cant abuse your truck and expect it to last you forever.... yes it can do anything you want, but you abuse your truck, it aint gonna last... like mine.... im married to it for 3 more years, and its got 75k miles on it, runs great, but ive had problems with it, and im just waiting for its big break down... i love my truck no doubt, but ive abused my truck when i 1st got it, now im paying for my childish moves...

its really fast! has power! and amazing handling

  • @gtvapsamtik isn't the F-150, more affordable, better and cheaper on parts?

  • @gtvapsamtik Your right I have a toyota tacoma 2009 SR5 TRD Off road and I never had a problem with it. it's a smooth truck and better then ford, dodge because those cars are USA these cars are way better.

    I'd recommend a toyota

  • @duckydown6 Your right too, lol. I have a 2012 toyota tacoma, double cab but it's silver. I just got it from the factory 3 weeks ago. So, if yours isn't going to have problems, then mine isn't. The Tacoma has a ride that fits me perfectly. My dad owns a 2005 and 2001 Tundra, my mom owns a 1997 Honda, and my brother owns a 1996 Tacoma. I drive them for reasons. I decided to go with a Tacoma, I know it's midsize compared to a Tundra, but the Tundra, not really for me. But it's still a good truck.

  • @CurlThe64 Tundra is not the best truck to have right now with the economy problems now and the gas prices. Hondas are also good I have a 1988 Honda Civic the rims all fixed up. yeah all Japanese vehicles are great some americans are too but just not wouldn't buy them.

  • @duckydown6 Yeah, I say no to the american vehicles. I have never test driven one ever, and I just don't like it for some reason. Tundra, I know for sure I don't need because I bought the 2012 tacoma. Have you seen the 2012 tacomas? They are absolutely stunning.

  • @CurlThe64 Yes, I have on the Internet but I do plan on go seeing it on face-to-face because I want to see the full details of the truck how much mileage, mpg it'll have. I know for a fact it's going to have a new interior and a new side bumper completely different from the previous versions of the trucks I have a 09 off road. My curiosity is making me go see this truck I hope it has new safety features.

Rule 1) Stick with Toyota. :)

  • @duckydown6 Thank you. I will stick with a Toyota in my life. I wish everyone could stand up to these trucks like you. But most people like the Fords and Chevy the best because they are bigger and full size trucks compared to the Tacoma. I can tell you some of what the 2012 Tacoma has, but not all of them. It has a locking differential and blue tooth, plus the interior seems to be a lot better than the past Tacoma in 2011. The fog lights have a black covering around it, etc. Different front end.

  • ive had my black 09 toy tacoma trd 4wheel drive sport for about 7 months and i put a leveling kit and some 32 bf goodrich all terrains on black moto metals wit flow master exhuast and i love it goes anywhere .... its a beast

  • Nice Truck I love this thing.

  • They added some nice upgrades to the Tacoma in '09 - my favorite add is the Vehicle Stability Control - VSC. This is a great safety feature. The tinted headlamps add a nice look, too.

  • i cant wait to get one and get rid of my shitty sierra, toyota tocoma's are good trucks and look like a full size for not being one like the guy said, and i want the sport model

  • you know, ive been looking at this truck for a while, and once in a while i see one with a slightly longer box, not the really long one, but just like a foot longer then this one, whats the deal with that? is there a pile of different models or something?

  • i got the 06' taco sport and i still absolutely love it. I plan to stay with it for over a decade.

  • ima get one of this trucks for sure!

  • An Automatic Limited-slip Differential (Auto-LSD), which uses brake intervention in place of a mechanical-type LSD to help reduce tire slippage at the rear wheels, is standard on all Tacoma models for 2009 (with the exception of models equipped with TRD Off-road packages, which will be equipped with a separate locking rear differential). The Auto-LSD replaces the mechanical LSD in all applications where it was previously available.

  • Steve, the 2009 Tacoma still has the Auto LSD when equipped with the Off Road Package, along with the locker. 05-08 ORs had open diffs with lockers, but with the 09's ALSD system you get both the limited slip and push button locker in one unit. Great review.

  • lol find this funny. i have a 2008 PreRunner 4x2. but if there is the right lighting i can see a AUTOLSD on the instrument pannel...but ive been off roading and never does my wheels lock. so my guess is it was optional for the 08 models D:

  • @stevehammes

if i get ARB lockers will i have to replace a lot of those parts?

  • @Sauron767 Putting an air locker on shouldn't be that big of a deal but I'd get in contact with ARB...I'm sure they know their stuff.

  • My dad got the Tacoma a month ago. Its black and its a pretty sweet truck.

  • you know the mudflaps say 4x4. but it has a scoop

  • So? The sport model comes in 4x4 too, not just the off-road.

  • I have an '08 double cab with the sport package. the hood scoop is all aesthetics; no real purpose to it.

  • well duh lol...same with the old style Ram, or the fenders on the Escalade, there just for looks

    i like the look though

  • Ok, i'm 14 and I'm not getting a truck until i'm 16 (late 15 as early present probably). I've been looking at the tacoma and the tundra as a first car. Mainly so i can haul my friends around in them and go to the beach/mountains in it.

Is this a good first car? and should i worry about 4x4?

I personally like the tundra because of the bigness (i'm 5'11" and presumably will be taller).

  • dude yes im 15 and im getting my dads old tacoma with 143667 miles on it and its so reliable you should get one

  • I got my dads tacoma as my first vehicle too, it had about 205,000 miles on it then and has 230,000 on it now...runs like new.

  • Comment removed

  • "Im 16... and still have it... very dependable"

How would you know, youve had it for like what, a few months?

  • I love the 09 Tacoma - I am really glad they have VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) now on some. It's also nice to see this Timberland Mica Green color, kind-of a throwback from the early 90's - I always like it. These trucks are awesome.

  • if i bought this specific model toyota website claims it doesn't come with a 6 speed man but i've seen websites sell parts for that tranny on this truck for this year WTF??? is toyota not telling me something or do you think i could get a custom setup? i'll be disappointed if they can't and i will not settle for the ranger shaped two door

  • yes they do, a 6speed on a 4.0V6

ive seen them at the dealership, there not that hard to find

  • ok but this is the dumbass part if i pick the full four door with the long bed or short bed it wont let me pick the 6 speed it will only let me have the 5 speed auto but if i want the 6 speed there saying i would have to pick the access cab the 2 door with the extra doors man i guess it just depends on where you live they will let you have what option

  • you probably cant on the web, but they do make double cab short/long bed with the TRD off-road package with a 6-speed

look on ebay, i found 3 double cabs with a 6-speed with the new body style

if you realy want one, go to your toyota dealership and place a order, there the once who can actually make it happen

  • is there a 6speed manuel regualar cab?

  • nope...you can only get the 6speed with a access cab or a double cab, and you cant get 4x4 ether, only 2wd 5 speed with a 4-cylinder..you cant even get a V6 in a regular cab

but i know what your thinking, a single cab, 4x4, with a 6speed and some aftermarket all-terrain tires, that would be a BEAST

just get a old tacoma, they did come with a V6 4x4 with a manuel, not shure if it was a 6speed or a 5speed though

  • You can get a 4X4 regular cab, just not with the V-6/6 speed combo.

  • you are correct about only the 4cyl 5 speed manual in the regular cab, but you CAN get 4x4 too.

  • @Mr101139

your incorrect. manual transmissions are available on single cab trucks as well.

  • I would prefer the the trd-off road package then the sport. Why it comes with a rear locking diff. Which we all know a limited-Slip diff. Doesn't help much when off-road.

  • Can someone tell me what the traction control is used for?

  • For the people who don't know how to drive.

  • toyota tacoma just change the interior or aesthetics of the car in 2010 I think I need to know to buy one, and thus whether or not to cheer, thanks in advance

  • That hood scoop is shit.

  • how am i gonna store my skis on a 5 foot bed ??

  • lol!

that's why i don't like the double cab

can't store much in such a short bed

  • Hi, I'm the 'dumb' auto critic who produces Drive Time with Steve Hammes. The TRD Off-Road Package does indeed come with chassis modifications including progressive rate front-springs, specially tuned Bilstein shock absorbers, a 28-mm front stabilizer bar and 265/70R16 BF Goodrich Rugged Trail tires on 16" wheels. The TRD Sport Package is road-focused and features its own specific suspension tuning and lower profile 265/65 R17 tires on 17-inch alloy wheels.

  • Um, no. The springs and shocks are tuned differently b/w the OR and Sport. Do a little research before you pop off. I personally think the most important difference is the locker on the OR.

  • true it is going for the same price and i have nothing against the ram its a sick truck, but i would be willing to bet you will have to take it in for some repairs before 150,000 miles also i guarentee right now in this economy you could go pay less than 25 for a 31,000 truck easily

  • I love my 2000 toyota tacoma 4x4 TRD off road, and do not plan on giving it up anytime soon. I have 148,500+ miles on her so far, and nothing but normal repairs so far.

For $31,000+ for the 2009 model...sheesh it better last a heck of a long time. That's just too expensive for the type of truck the Tacoma is. Sorry, but I'll take the 2009 Dodge Ram with the Hemi which fully loaded is going for the same price.

  • I think your crazy the Tacoma is way nicer! more Beautiful for sure and a lot more to offer!!
